Corylopsis veitchiana is a shrub/small tree in the witch hazel family (Hamamelidaceae). Very attractive looking in flower. This one is about 2 metres tall.
There were a few bees working it.
As far as i could see for think for nectar only.

Good view of full sized pollen load on this one - slightly pinky look to it I think.
In Rowallane bees were working this hard today, 12C, this is about 600m from the hives.

Edit>>December 1st 2018: - I have decided to pick this as best picture of year for me. Certainly not one of my more popular pictures. Not explored (I got more pictures explored this year than any previous year on Flickr). It is technically questionable for a couple of reasons. However still something I just really like about this one.
I have got into Honey bees on named flowers pictures last couple of years and have a very nerdy botanically sorted spreadsheet at:

She is one of mine I think. About 2 km from my house. Always great to see them out and about. The ivy at this roadside was bopping with hovers and bees. And today standing in front of a hive earlier the smell of the ivy was stunning - so strong and distinctive - immediately connects me to years past when it was less familiar. A sunny Saturday in September, windless and 17C.
Bright yellow pollen loads on display on this girl as she bops from flower to flower.
If you watch closely for a period of time and follow individual bees, it is very clear that some bees are selecting/visiting the flowers with anthers still on and collecting pollen. And that other bees are actively selecting flowers that the anthers have dropped off and are collecting nectar only. I much prefer to get pictures of the ones that are collecting pollen

In the garden.
Gorse and dandelion are what my bees are on at present. I have 10 apple trees in flower in the garden and lots of crabapples in the hedges but hardly any bees visiting them. I also have a great bay leaf tree covered in flowers and thought it would be great for a bee on flower picture but the bees are just not interested - It is about 20 meters from the hives.
Most of my hives have dark bees but one strong hive has a lot of bees with orange bands so I am pretty sure this girl is from that hive.
I do have a lot of bee on dandelion pictures but this one may eventually go on my Honey bees on named flowers set

This week-end involved 2 Heritage Railways with the Main Aim was to get as many Steam Train Journeys to add to my Steam Powered Journeys Spreadsheet which is my modern "Trainspotting" record.
Here, after arriving at Holt Station on the front of the Class 9F Double-Header, I got a photo of Loco 92203 - "Black Prince", a Riddles designed, Swindon Works built - BR Class 9F - 2-10-0 which is at rest in the sidings at Holt.
There were 6 Locomotives in Steam for the Gala Event Sunday.

A Photo from Day 9 of a 10 day 9 night "Railway Tour" of 13 Museums and Heritage Railway Locations. The Main Aim was to get as many Steam Train Journeys to add to my Steam Powered Journeys Spreadsheet which is my modern "Trainspotting" record.
Another Double Railway Day and I decided to go to the North Norfolk Railway (NNR) in the morning and I can move onto the Mid Norfolk Railway (MNR) in the afternoon. It is only about 50 minutes by car between the 2 railways.
When I arrived at Dereham Station on the Mid Norfolk Railway (MNR), there were 2 Locomotives operating.
Here, at Dereham Station, GWR 813 is in steam and moving up and down the station from time to time and is posing for Photographs with a few freight wagons.

The West Somerset Railway runs trains from Bishops Lydeard station to Dunster with a bus transfer to Minehead at the moment due to a problem with a level crossing.
There is ample car parking at the Bishops Lydeard end of the line so I started there.
The day I went during the sort of main summer holidays, there were 3 steam excursion running hauled by Steam Locomotives.
Here, I am on a train hauled by GWR large Prairie 5199 passing 7822 "Foxcote Manor" while on the Steam Excursion return journey to Bishops Lydeard from Dunster.
7822 is a Collett designed GWR "Manor Class" 4-6-0 loco.

it is in a pot on the patio - I have felt that I have got great value from this plant past couple of years but the honey bee is even more in love with it! Eagerly working for nectar.

At Didcot Railway Centre, their Diamond jubilee Gala had 4 steam locomotives with 2 each on the "Main Demonstration Line" and the shorter "Branch Line." 2 diesels powered some early morning and evening trains.
Several Steam Locomotives were also on Static Display and it was possible to go round the sheds.

nice looking big shrub/small tree in Rowallane last week on the North edge of the Rock Garden. Another one I didnt know and had to revisit this week to find the plant label!

A Day Trip to the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway for the Saturday of a 3 day Steam Gala,
As Usual, the Main Aim was to get as many Steam Train Journeys to add to my Steam Powered Journeys Spreadsheet which is my modern "Trainspotting" record.
There were 2 Visiting Engines and some of 5 of the Home Fleet Locomotives scheduled to run on an intensive timetable.
Here, on my first Steam Heritage Railway Visit of 2022, Taff Vale no 85 is double-Headed with 52044 for the journey up the valley from Keighley Station. towards Ingrow West and to Oxenhope Station.
Taff Vale no 85, a Riches designed and Kitson built Class 02 - 0-6-2T locomotive.
52044, leading the Double-Header up the hill away from Keighley Station is a Barton Wright and Aspinall designed and Bayer-Peacock built 0-6-0, originally for the L&Y as no 957, later renumbered 12044 for the LMS and 52044 for BR.
52044 was the locomotive used as "The green Dragon" in the 1970 film "The Railway Children".

A Photo from Day 5 of a 10 day 9 night "Railway Tour" of 13 Museums and Heritage Railway Locations. The Main Aim was to get as many Steam Train Journeys to add to my Steam Powered Journeys Spreadsheet which is my modern "Trainspotting" record.
The East Somerset Railway (ESR) runs trains from Cranmore station to Mendip Vale station and back on a 5 mile round trip along its Heritage Railway line.
Along the line, there is also a halt and Cranmore West Station which is near the Sheds.
There is ample car parking at the Cranmore end of the line on normal running days so I started there.
The day I went during the sort of main summer holidays, there was only 1 steam Locomotive running although another was at the sheds and could have been steamed if thought necessary.
Here, at Cranmore Station, my last photo on this visit to ESR is of 46447 which has just powered the return journey the Steam Train I have a day rover ticket for and which I joined at Cranmore West station after visiting the Sheds.
46447 is a Ivatt designed LMS "Class 2" 2MT 2-6-0 loco.

I spent an enjoyable 15 minutes on Saturday chasing bees with the camera on a single but very striking clump of this herbaceous perennial in the walled garden at Rowallane.
A superb plant, and makes for a very summery look in April.

Saw these three really cool Hot Wheels cars at Rick's Vintage Shop and Antique Market in Hernando a month ago and couldn't resist taking a photo to share on flickr one day :) Rick's is located in the old Love's Sports Café beside the Goodwill Bargain Barn, which you guys probably know better as the Home Appliance Store of Hernando-turned-temporary Kroger Hiring Center: the space's first permanent tenant in years, open as of early this year. As far as the merchandise goes, I really like this store; there's a whole lot of cool retail-related items! (On our most recent visit, we even saw one of the vendors had picked up and was offering for sale a painting – not retail related, mind you! – that we had donated to Goodwill just weeks before, which means they definitely have good taste ;P …and that we could've made a good chunk of change if we had had the means of selling it ourselves, haha!) For overall presentation and customer service, however, I prefer Commerce Street Market.
Anyway, that's not the point of this post! I'm uploading this to let you know that I've put up my first blog post of the summer, a table summarizing the Albertsons stores in Mississippi which was compiled by Albertsons Florida Blog. Please feel free to check it out here!
Lastly... if any of you are familiar with Blogger, and know how to embed a table or PDF, please leave a comment below to help me out! I tried posting the table to the blog first as HTML code, but the information stretched beyond the template formatting I've got in place. Then I attempted embedding it as a PDF, which I ultimately got to work out via OneDrive... until I realized that it would let everyone see my real name, which I don't want! I thought about just editing my name on OneDrive, but found that silly to do just for the sake of my blog. So at the very least, let me know if you can read the table; I want it to be clear and easy enough to understand, especially for the effort AFB (and I) put into it...

These places are public so these photos are too, but just as I tell where they came from, I'd appreciate if you'd say who :)
a wonky, scrappy envelope map! It was what I had in my pocket and rather than redo it I just took a picture of it, annotated it on the computer and put it here on Flickr where I can find it easily. Intended as a private picture but then I just felt like making it public. I have loads of garden notes as private images on Flickr although they are generally much more mundane and small things than this big project.
but it is my definitive masterplan and it works fine for me as a reference to come back to. This is Rangers Orchard, the new orchard I have planted over past few weeks.
The ones on the right will be big trees (on MM106 rootstock) and are from a nursery in County Leitrim (Heritage fruit tree nursery) and are planted roughly 7 metres apart.
The ones on the left are cheap trees i got from B&M and are on M9 dwarfing rootstock and are planted closer together (3.5m typical distance)
23 trees (including 2 plums), All planted during February 2023
I also just planted a row of Crab apple trees to North of field shelter and the cherry plum to East of field shelter
I made a spreadsheet with all the flowering/fruiting periods for the various cultivars and also their self fertile status and where I could find it, their ploidy status.
About 100 meters away I have my garden orchard, planted in 2004 and now big mature trees and I have included these in my spreadsheet too. I have also planted 3 new apple trees near the entrance to our property. We are now surrounded by apple trees.

A Photo from Day 1 of a 10 day 9 night "Railway Tour" of 13 Museums and Heritage Railway Locations. The Main Aim was to get as many Steam Train Journeys to add to my Steam Powered Journeys Spreadsheet which is my modern "Trainspotting" record.
Here, at Shildon's Locomotion Museum, there was a static display of 60103 - "Flying Scotsman" which was the first locomotive recorded as having reached 100 m.p.h. for part of its journey on 30 November 1934 breaking the world speed record at the time.
Nigel Gresley designed 4472 later numbered 60103 was originally an A1 Pacific 4-6-2 was one of the first to have a Corridor tender which enabled a crew change on long journeys and this enabled it and similar Locomotives to run non-stop between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh Waverley Stations, a distance of about 390 miles.
Later in 1947, with a larger boiler added Flying Scotsman was reclassified as an A3 Locomotive.
"Flying Scotsman" was recorded as having travelled over 2 million miles in service of LNER and later BR.
The locomotive also went to the USA and Canada and toured between 1969 and 1971.

Another peak at my item for the upcoming event four corners. Our item is based off of the theme "Bikes and Spikes"
This is to show that the earrings are fit for any form of woman, it compliments them all. They are bold, and they are fierce.
The earrings will be available at the four corner event on 12/17/11.

Bob Dylan - Blowin' in the Wind
Stachyurus chinensis - Chinese stachyurus. A small shrub in the walled garden at Rowallane. It looks very graceful with its hanging racemes of flowers. A few bees were working it for nectar on Saturday & i managed to get some pictures.

Here, after arriving at Sheringham for their Steam Gala Event, I get a photo of Loco 92203 - "Black Prince", a Riddles designed, Swindon Works built - BR Class 9F - 2-10-0.
There were 6 Locomotives in Steam for the Gala Event Sunday.

A Day Trip to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway for the first day of their 2021 Autumn Steam Gala,
As Usual, the Main Aim was to get as many Steam Train Journeys to add to my Steam Powered Journeys Spreadsheet which is my modern "Trainspotting" record.
Here, a Cab photo while resting on Platform 4 at Grosmont Station having just come from the sheds is 60163 - "Tornado", a New Build A1 4-6-2 loco built to a Peppercorn LNER design and Assembled at Darlington.
