Setup for THIS
Here's the other side. I also reinforced the glued corners with duct tape (mostly cause I was impatient and didn't want to wait for the glue to 100% dry)
SB-900 in softbox @ 1/4 power camera left
SB-900 white shoot through umbrella @ 1/4 power camera right.
Processed in Lightroom.
The angle of the sides is not quite right - needs to be steeper pitched. The plastic is roof insulation from my local hardware (like bubble-wrap silver on one side white on the other - often used for those shade screens you put in your car window). The plastic insulation diffuses the light enough that you don't need a screen on the front (unless you're shooting something reflective).
Made this spiderlight off some designs here on flickr. A second flash is too expensive for me, so I will just stick with this till I can afford more.
Strobist. This picture is my first shot as a strobist.
Learning to use those external flashes is going to be one of the most difficult tasks I'll ever have to accomplish, but I'm quite confident I'll get things to work out the way I like (:
Strobist:
Shot in Ebay softbox, one Sunpak auto zoom 2400 on top left, triggered via GI remotes.
[inspired by jarra's flashing]
sylvia took me, fono and mels to some sort of fashion fundraiser for an overpriced tshirt shop. they had "discount tshirts" for $50 each. we though they were marked up because it was a fundraiser. but no, they were usually $100. but this didn't matter because there was copious amounts of free champagne.
Continuous light softbox... Finally had a chance to build it. Its lit by 5, 100W equivalent CFLs at 5400K. I hope it will help yield some good photos.
Also made a huge mess in my living room :)
For the interior I grabbed pair of rolls of baking foil from my significant other. ;)
As I haven't been gluing anything for ages and have never ever tried to glue baking foil, I decided to give the process a test drive on one of the cut-off parts.
White Plexiglass.
Softbox to the left and over head about 10cm - 15cm, slaves back and underneath.
Canon 580EXII snooted (8" I use Honl snoots and gobos etc www.honlphoto.com/servlet/StoreFront ) , hand held at and arms lenght, aimed at jewel. Flash head zoomed to 80mm. Seemed to give the best balance between 'spot' and a bit of spread.
Image as is, cropped/rescaled only.
A 79p Asda plastic bowl, lined with silver foil and covered in grease proof paper with a slot cut out of the back to snugly fit over the Flash gun.
Not the best subject today, but it stood still enough for me to practice lighting on.
strobist info: DIY softbox? 580ex in a white paper bag to camera right on 1/16 power, manual. Triggered by a ringlight attached to camera pointed away from the stapler. Anxiously awaiting a kit from MPEX for by birthday.
Further experiments using my 580EX flash in a softbox, only this time using an 85cm reflector to fill in shadows.

Day 28 - Booger the Buggy. Quick shot of a cool little car my wife picked up for me. Tuesdays are always a difficult day for me to shoot because of my work schedule, I'll try to make up for it tomorrow. YN560 into softbox camera left
