Portraits with my new softbox

Lighting: Two speedlights in an Apollo 28 softbox, about 7'oclock as main. Single speed light through a CS 24 inch foldable softbox with circle mask, about 3 o'clock and above model.

Extra height added to photographer by a handy folding chair.

Test shot with my new DIY softbox.

SB-28DX camera left about half a metre from headphones. I lost about a stop of light through the softbox.

Pick and shoot. Me and my good friend Sopan doing a walk to Kpg Semariang Batu yesterday when we met this boy playing with the hammer behind the under construction house. We are very lucky because this young kid agree when we want to shoot his portrait. The unplanned pose, he is freely move in-front of my lens ;D

600 x 600mm mkIV soft box test shots. The diffuser cap fell off the flash on the top image, although the light looks the same in both shots, may as well leave it off in future so not to lose the cap again.

All iPad

All of the lighting for this shot was done with Softbox Pro, a new lighting app for the iPad. It works sort of well. If you look closely, you can see the lines from the iPad display

AKA: Shoe Box Soft Box.

Made with an empty shoe box with a hole cut through the bottom to squeeze the flash head through to hold. The material is just an old white pillow case.

This shot is to show the difference between the flash firing and without it going on the same camera settings.

Updated self-portrait with new glasses.

This figure shows two shots taken just moments apart. The shot on the left was taken with straight flash. Notice the harsh shadows. The shot on the right was taken with Lumiquest Softbox LTP. The light is more evenly spread out, and the shadows are soft and diffused

I had a wonderful evening shooting with Jen where we tested out some wireless triggering with my Fuji X-T10 and my ring light followed by some single softbox shots using a makeshift studio setup. A pretty successful evening.

donna on the bed. my first digital shots in a long while! these were flashtests originally but i liked them too much just let them sit around my hd.

It's late... I'm tired, but I just made a homemade softbox and wanted to test it on something.... quick! Quick and rough composition... and edit... and photo.... Zzzz...zZZzzz... must go sleep :-P

This look was created using the Limited Edition. Softbox palette from Smashbox ($48)

STEPS:

1. Sweep Flirt from lashline to crease, all over lids

2. Shade Truffle in outer corners

3. Apply Stone on bottom lashline

4. Line upper & lower lashlines with Taupe cream liner.

I'm going to be taking pictures for a friend's birthday party next week (at a restaurant), so I need to practice some indoor, hand-held flash techniques before then. While David was over for dinner at my place, I messed around with the softbox in my left hand and the camera in my right. I think this can work fine for the party, but it seems like I should set up another strobe on a lightstand for rim/fill during the party.

This was before Christmas when I was unaware that I would later get a set of stands and umbrellas (Thanks DAD!) I was desperate for soft light and decided to build my own. A fabric store isn't to far away from here so bought 6$ of fabric, took a lamp shade and clothes pins (non destructive :) Long tighwraps to mount the lamp shade to the tripod...and more for the strobe and mission accomplished! Check out the final result
