Sculpt progress on the Neomorph - 1:18 scale - Alien:Covenant
Tabled for a few weeks while I got started on a few others projects but back at it over the weekend focusing on the mouth. I have mentioned that I plan to do variants of this head sculpt (open mouth, closed, concept etc) and decided it would be easier to build the variants if I was to sculpt the open mouth first than to try to do it vice-versa.
Sculpt is based on concept art by Colvin Shulver. Find his work on ArtStation. www.artstation.com/artwork/bxJYo as well as the build work from Odd Studio
First was to drill and clear out a cavity for the mouth's opening, then build up the mandible, allow to cure, then the tongue and upper jaw.
Using Aves FIXIT for the build (Aves Studio LLC). Added a dime to give a sense of scale for the piece. The teeth are still being refined. I hope to have the head sculpted and reduce the ear openings a bit on my next go. A shot showing the "before and after" of the Ash Jumpsuit sculpt - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. The "naked" frame to the left and the completed sculpt (with ALT head sculpt) to the right. 17 points of articulation...some better than others. Sculpted using Aves FIXIT. Of all the figures I have created for the ALIEN 79 series, Ash is the one I have invested the most time with - so many variants. Kane is a close second. Build update on the MU/TH/UR 6000 "MOTHER" Chamber for the Nostromo - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. Rough images but they show the interior frame build (walls) is complete and I'm beginning to work on the ceiling. The flower-like design will be attached to clear acrylic so natural light can pass through. The ceiling you see in this image will drop much further down. Sculpt progress on The Space Jockey - 1:18 scale - ALIEN 79. Began sculpting the torso of the creature. Using Aves FIXIT Sculpt. Additional weathering will be added with a dremel tool once the torso is complete. Sculpt progress on Kane with Facehugger - ALIEN - 1:18 scale. Work in progress....Began sculpting this piece last night. Using an existing cast of the Kane head sculpt, shaping the hair a bit differently and adding the facehugger to it. The facehugger will be a permanent attachment. I am also in the process of sculpting a sleep chamber Kane body which I am using temporarily with this version but will need to cast the body first before I sculpt the undergarment. The new facehugger/Kane head sculpt will fit comfortably into the helmet. #alien #nostromo #kane #facehugger #sith_fire30

Fortunately Creative Assembly is using designs similar to that found on the Nostromo so replicating the unique corridors will be much easier

Starkiller's two head sculpts (standard and "rage") are original sculpts depicting the character from the concept art and not that of the actor. When I have time I will go back and sculpt an actor likeness.
The shoulder armor is a seperate piece and is attached by a clear band around the shoulder.
The body is a full sculpt using a custom made articluated frame or armature. The figure contains 14 points of articulation.
Included to hilts which are built from existing parts, can be attached to chest using clear banding. Also included are to sabers with attached beams. Lightsabers do not light up.
The arena robes are from the Darth Maleval box set and was altered/reworked then painted to give a worn look. Hood is from a VOTC Darth Sideous, altered and repainted.
Figure was sculpted using Aves FIXIT sculpt and hand painted using Testors Polyscale and Floquil acrylics.
Build update on the "Mother" Chamber - Nostromo - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale. This is going to be a very gradual build...one level at a time for the frame, then again for the detailing. 2 panel sets, one with four walls, the other two and a separate third panel will be created. This will allow me to remove a panel wall the display and photograph the interior. Finished casting of the Nostromo Main Air Lock - 1:18 scale. Door can open and close. Next step is to paint.
Sulaco Sleep Chamber build progress - 1:18 scale - ALIENS. Hoping from the Nostromo to the Sulaco, I've been working on the canopy to the sleep chamber. First I sculpted the shape of the canopy directly to a cast of the bed using Monster Clay. Once I had the measurements right, I shaved away approx. .125 - .25 of the surface from the clay form. Next I sculpted a "shell" directly to the monster clay form using Aves FIXIT sculpt, creating the canopy while adding plot lines where the windows will be knocked out. Once the canopy had cured for 24 hours, I loosened the canopy free from the bed and began to remove the Monster Clay from it's core. I've also refined the surface of the canopy and will begin adding surface details where needed. Once complete I will make a mold and cast the finished canopy then insert clear acrylic sheet to the inside to create the windows. #aliens #sulaco #sleepchamber #breakfastinbed #colonialmarines #sith_fire30
Sculpt progress on the Chestburster - Kane - Alien 1:18 (79) scale. Created a cup to sculpt down into and build up to create the exposed cavity and the distressed garment Kane is wearing at the moment of his demise. This entire section is removable. The tail of the burster has been sculpted - the remaining baby burster will be sculpted separately to fit in the cavity you see here. I have in mind to do a version that can move and push up and through the chest using a tab going through the figure and the table along with magnets. This will be a heck of a project to paint when complete. #alien #chestburster #kane

Working on the first couple layers of the face, eyes, mouth. Very fleshy at this stage - want to highlight it out a bit with some aged whites or even lighter tans with a hint of greens running through it. Will begin moving toward the back of the head and neck over the next day or so.
Difficult for me to work on this piece all in one day due to my work and home schedule so I'm doing the best I can- Living for a quiet weekend. To have more time to paint this and much more.

The second of two semi-static posed figures is complete. This version depicts the creature as it appears in the deleted "crab-walker" scene from the 1979 film as Lambert and Parker make a desperate attempt to escape the Nostromo. This deleted scene however was thought comical by many, not well executed on film and revealed too much of the creature...reducing it to nothing more than a man in a rubber suit...something Ridley Scott was avoiding by using smoke and shadow.
Hand sculpted, hand painted. 1:18 scale. I borrowed resin cast parts from the original Alien figure I created a year earlier, made modifications to the torso, neck, shoulders
and legs.
When crouched or "crab walking", the figure is approx. 3" high from highest point on head to the feet. When standing, the figure is approx. 5.25" high, still not fully erect as the leg and hip joints limit the full motion (again, this was originally meant to be a static posed figure). Fortunately I was able to add several articulation points to the figure: Ball jointed neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles. Vacuum formed PETG dome is removable. The tail is static but is attached using a revoltech joint and can be switched out with a longer tail option.
Original was sculpted using Aves FIXIT sculpt, a two part epoxy. Parts were cast in resin and assembled to build this version. Used Model Masters Polly Scale and Tamiya acrylics.

Build progress of the Nostromo - 1:18 scale ALIEN. The Observation Blister - I received the laser cut pieces I designed last week. Assembled the arch to the observation portal and sculpted the arc frame using Aves FIXIT. Will do the same to the opposite, exterior side and add the interior ribbing using styrene. Purchased stainless steel rods (.25") which will be the track for the mobile observation chair that will roll on the rails from the blister to the control console. #alien #ash #observation #nostromo #robot #sith_fire30
Completed the sculpts to all three Nostromo EVAs - Dallas, Lambert and Kane. ALIEN 1:18 scale. Time to clean up and paint. The packs have been hollowed out for coin holders which will be used for the helmet LEDs to come later. Lord Darth Vader - 1:18 scale update. Will begin detailing the first cape for the figure. I will do a series of three capes - Draped, Action and Assault versions. Will be detailing the draped version tonight, need to reduce the shoulders just a bit. Once complete, will make casts of each out of rubber. That's the plan at least. To those that have asked why I'm not using wax - good point...I should probably try at least one version and get off this FIXIT addiction LOL!
Close to completing a self portrait sculpt wearing a Weyland-Yutani EVA suit. ALIEN - 1:18 scale. Sculpted the head gear over top my existing head sculpt. Now the question...what color should it be? Hip adjustments made to Amanda Ripley - 1:18 scale - Alien: Isolation. If you recall I replaced the figures hinged hips will ball jointed. Finished sculpting over the exposed parts and the articulation has much improved. Working on accessories like the tracker, flame unit and additional weapons. So I've taken one of those Dallas EVA castings I made earlier this week and began to install articulation - borrowed joints from existing figures. Not the Revoltech trash. Still a work in progress but decided to inject myself into this little ALIEN universe I am creating using a head sculpt I created several years ago. Finally get to wear one of these heavy suits LOL!....as far as character, not sure if I'd want to be considered a crew member of some sort from another vessel or an artificial person....not sure yet. I'm leaning more toward being a synthetic. #alien
