Sculpt progress on Kane with Facehugger - ALIEN - 1:18 scale. Work in progress....Began sculpting this piece last night. Using an existing cast of the Kane head sculpt, shaping the hair a bit differently and adding the facehugger to it. The facehugger will be a permanent attachment. I am also in the process of sculpting a sleep chamber Kane body which I am using temporarily with this version but will need to cast the body first before I sculpt the undergarment. Looks kind like a bust doesn't it...not a bad idea. Still, it's only the buildup of the upper torso. I will be sculpting detail once a needled it down a bit more. Then will come the lower abdomen, arms. legs etc.
The upper torso and head will be one piece. Just don't have the tech available to create an articulated neck that works with this sculpt. If anything it would have been a rubber sheath that would drape over and articulated frame.
Different expressions are also in the works. Sculpting tails for the other xenos at this time and a tongue for this beast.

Sculpted the center control station for the Nostromo Sleep Chamber - ALIEN (1979) - 1:18 scale. This is a rough Monster Clay sculpt that will be better refined with additional details added after a mold bath and cast is created. First this piece will go in the refrigerator of several hours so that the pods can be easily removed from the sculpt. From there a mold will be made and the cast from that mold will be the piece I will refine and detail. At this point I will work on hinges for the pod canopies to attached to. Canopies will be opened by hand. I had this dream of being able to push on the top center and all the canopies would open all at once....I'm sure it could be done but I don't have the tooling and time to create such a gizmo....perhaps an upgrade later? ALIEN - "The Beast" 1:18 scale. Busy sculpting a variant head to the creature - merely a different expression. I want to complete four versions : Closed, Partially Open, Open (with inner mouth exposed) and Strike (with inner mouth shooting forward). Not completed with the details behind the jaw so I will work on that a bit tonight before moving on to the next one. Clouding up the dome a bit with some fine sandpaper. #alien #nostromo #xenomorph
Nostromo 1:18 scale update - ALIEN 1979. Here is the result from last nights initial casting of the Nostromo Bridge wall panel! It came out excellent Had a little touch and go with the details to the CPU panels while pouring - a couple areas where finer detail exist but the casting material never reached. I've made note of those areas for the next casting. It's not much of a concern if you take in consideration the total chaotic detail going on with each panel....you wouldn't notice which wire is missing or what tube didn't get cast and it's only two areas...not a bad deal if you ask me. I'm very happy how it has turned out so far!! Hoping the other panels I will begin working on will be just as nice Now....when to paint this monster!!! #alien #nostromo

Nostromo Main Airlock 1:18 scale - Update. Alien 1979. Finished adding detailing! Unfortunately I could only find/make enough parts to fill one side of the chamber. This side will get a mold bath, then once released, a few parts will be removed to fill the other half which will in turn have a mold made. Patched up the holes where the wall racks will fit - for mold purposes. The tubes and straps seen in production images as well as the control consoles seen in the film will be added last before painting. Several work in progress images of the Nostromo Galley - 1:18 scale. ALIEN 1979. Created the vector of the galley floor and received the etched piece over the weekend. Hand sculpting the walls "Egyptian motif". The larger couch of the set of three is complete and needs a mold bath. Need to work on the table base next. Slowly coming together - I have the entire kitchen section to do next. From the Dark Horse comic series Knights of the Old Republic, written by John Jackson Miller, comes my completed Zayne Carrick as he appeared in part four of Commencement.
Big, heavy and well worn, Zayne's suit has been sculpted and painted to appears to be a mix of woven material, leather and a lightweight metal alloy which includes a working removable helmet and PlSS (Primary Life-Support Subsystem) backpack.

Sculpt work on the lone survivor of the Nostromo crew after all was said and done - Jones the Cat - sitting and standing sculpts in progress, 1:18 scale non articulated. Standing may have a ball jointed head.
I spent some time last night and sculpted little round spigots knobs out of FIXIT. Simply pressed little balls of the epoxy onto a scrap sheet of styrene and sculpted away. Later after curing I slightly bent the styrene to pop them off the surface then took some sandpaper to clean them up. Not industrially precise but honestly have you seen these knobs close up? Some look like they were hand cast in iron - very irregular in some spots. Still need some sanding but very happy how they turned out. ALIEN 1:18 scale.

Nostromo Main Air Lock - 1:18 scale UPDATE. ALIEN (1979). Spent some time creating the interior wall racking using butyrate tubing. Took some time to get the hang of it and I may still want to go back and redo a couple because of irregularities but all in all they turned out pretty nice for it being my first time using the tube material. Next up for this project will be the finer detail to the interior walls as well as the ceiling build. I've attached some updated images of my progress. #alien #nostromo #airlock

Two things I plan to change - the ribbing just below the carapace needs to be thinned out, and the vertebral segments at the back of the head needs to have a higher arc.
The creature is unexplained..which is intriguing to me because I don't need to know a reason for it's existence. The wall panel mold I made for the 1:18 scale Nostromo Sleep Chamber came out great yesterday so I took what was left of my casting material and made a few panels for a quick set-up. Happy with the direction it's taking - time to build the center control panel. Need to do some more vacuum forming and complete the canopies.

Several work in progress image of the Nostromo Airlock Vestibule chamber - 1:18 scale. ALIEN 1979. After creating the vectors, I received several cut/etched parts needed to begin building the vestibule including the floor and two entrances. Next step is detailing of the pieces, molding/casting along with creating the walls that will bring the room together. Starkiller's two head sculpts (standard and "rage") are original sculpts depicting the character from the concept art and not that of the actor. When I have time I will go back and sculpt an actor likeness.
The shoulder armor is a seperate piece and is attached by a clear band around the shoulder.
The body is a full sculpt using a custom made articluated frame or armature. The figure contains 14 points of articulation.
Included to hilts which are built from existing parts, can be attached to chest using clear banding. Also included are to sabers with attached beams. Lightsabers do not light up.
The arena robes are from the Darth Maleval box set and was altered/reworked then painted to give a worn look. Hood is from a VOTC Darth Sideous, altered and repainted.
Figure was sculpted using Aves FIXIT sculpt and hand painted using Testors Polyscale and Floquil acrylics.
The Nostromo Sleep Chamber is beginning to take shape! ALIEN - 1979 - 1:18 scale.
Gotta long way to go! With this update I have completed the castings of the 7 sleep pods to help form the chamber. Still need to vacuum form the revised canopies. The centerpiece is the next item to be created - currently using both a salad dressing and mouthwash lid for size reference. The wall panels are printed images glued to foam core to assist in getting the scale right before I begin sculpting/laser cutting pieces. I think these walls are going to be complete sculpts by hand - I did one once before but it was out of scale and had surface irregularities. Learned a bunch since then! The gap between each wall panel will be more distinct and will open up more room in what is already a cramped space when going by the early design blueprints for the actual film production (see image). Thanksfully I only have to sculpt just two panels (wall and open portal) - then replicate. More to come!

The Beast - ALIEN 1979 - 1:18 scale. Another shot of the tail. Along with making the creature more menacing (in my opinion) it also offers more stability in the stance of the figure. A bendy tail is in the works but these static tails do the trick. Cast and manipulated into shape by a heat gun. Held to the body by a ball joint. #alien #nostromo #bigchap #sith_fire30
Sculpt progress on the Alien from Alien: Isolation - 1:18 scale. Finished the segments to the legs and feet. Sculpts for the legs are fine, and the stability is good...just not too keen on the feet yet - sculpt wise or articulation wise. Not sure if I should forego the articulation and have the feet merge with the lower legs. Visually it would look better, it would be more stable....but it would limit it's poses. I can always use a clear stand for more dramatic looks...I don't know. Another ALIEN update - this one concerning the 1:18 sculpt of Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) - "Lucky Star" version. I have completed the sculpt work to Ripley's shoulders, neck and upper/lower torso. Moving onto the arms. Mind you this will be the version of Ripley wearing her famous "space undies". I plan to make a suited version as well and a sculpt which allows the semi-nude figure to "step into" the suit which will later be part of a larger diorama. Just a shot of her abdomen here - the upper body is at this time anatomically correct so to speak but will soon be covered up with a thin layer of FIXIT to create the tank top - Sorry guys! You will however get to see the entire sculpt on my next blog update...first time I have ever sculpted a nude at this scale.
Sculpt progress on AVA - Ex Machina - 1/12 scale. Because I'm forever curious, I decided to do some vacuum forming tests of Ava's torso, neck and skull cap. The images you see are the results. Additional sculpt work added to the Kane w/Facehugger head sculpt 1:18 scale - ALIEN 1979. Began to sculpt the tail. Problem is, wrapping the tail around the neck of the figure prohibits me to remove the head sculpt for refinement. The idea will be to sculpt the second half of the tail separately and attached both parts by a peg or magnet.
