"The TEETH! Fix the teeth!"
I've always planned to fix the teeth but had put it off while building the rest of the figure. Realized after the last update that it was becoming more of an issue to some...and I get it believe me! So before any further updates, I chose to revise the sculpt yesterday.
Sculpt progress on the Praetorian Xenomorph (Egg Morpher) - Aliens: Defiance - 1:18 scale. A work in progress.
A little less friendly I hope? LOL! Sculpted the entire set of teeth once again along with the rim that goes above the gum line.
The Defiance Praetorian featured teeth that resembled that of the Deacon newborn from Prometheus - human teeth (very creepy) with a protruding jaw that contained the fangs. I still plan to sculpt a version that features those teeth, just not as big as the original sculpt. Variation is a beautiful thing. #alien #aliens #defiance #darkhorsecomics #praetorian #covenant #nostromo #sulaco #sculpture #aves #avesfixit #avesstudio #sculpting #customactionfigure
My complete sculpted figure of Lumbra - A Gotal space pirate who appeared in issues 7-10 of the Dark Horse comic saga Dark Times. Lumbra was killed at the hands of Jedi K'Kruhk after attempting to capture/kill Jedi younglings.
The figure has 12 points of articulation, an alternate head (still a WIP) and a working holster with removable pistol. The figure stands approx. 4.25" high. Sculpted using Aves FIXIT sculpt. Head featured in photo is a plastic cast of my sculpted original.
1:18 Scale custom sculpt of Jedi Dass Jennir from the Dark Horse comic series Star Wars Dark Times. Sculpt is complete, working on the paint application - Sculpt was created using Aves FIXIT.

Yuuzhan Vong Warrior from the Dark Horse comic series, Invasion. Sculpt is about 85% complete - Shoulder armor is removable. Figure is a total sculpt - using Aves FIXIT. Plan to create an alternate head sculpt of the warrior. 1:18 scale, approx 5.5 inches.
Here's Jennir with the cowl removed completely - the cowl is a seperate sculpted piece made from the FIXIT epoxy. This material is incredible to work with - no limitations to what you can do with it. Props to Aves!

Sculpt update on the Neomorph - Alien: Covenant - 1:18 scale work in progress.
Sculpt made using Aves FIXIT Sculpt from Aves Studio LLC
Began working on the upper torso of the figure, exaggerating the dept of the ribcage a bit so a thinner application of FIXIT can be added once cured. Need to add detail to the back and create the "spikes" that protrude.
Next will be the lower torso, another head variant, tail and arms. More to come! #alien #aliens #covenant #neomorph #xenomorph #protomorph #sculpture #aves #avesfixitsculpt #avesstudio #customactionfigure #miniature
Sculpt update on the Newborn - Alien: Resurrection - 1:18 scale work in progress.

Revisions to one side of the head sculpt. Cleaned up some of the details, softened others and lengthened the skull a bit. Now that I have the proportions close to where I want them to be, I can fill in the void on the other side of the cranium LOL! Price paid when working with this material - a little progress at a time. The payoff is worth it though.
Next up, complete the cranium, sculpt the mouth and lower jaw....and that tongue! LOL!
More to come! #alien #aliens #resurrection #newborn #hybrid #queenkiller #sculpture #avesstudio #avesfixit #aves #customactionfigure
A teaser image of a concept sculpt of Starkiller painted and complete. I am currely working on a sculpt reflecting the actors likeness...or close to it :) I have two body sculpts in mind - the one we've all seen in trailers and media...and another TBD.
The first of two semi-static posed figures of the creature from the 1979 film, Alien. Hand sculpted, hand painted. This version depicts the beast as it would have appeared in several promotional test shots during pre-production, the air duct scene where Captain Dallas met his end as well as a deleted scene appearing within the corridor while Parker and Lambert were making their desperate escape.
Figure is approx. 3" high from highest point on head to the feet. Articulated neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists. Vacuum formed PETG dome is removable.
Original was sculpted using Aves FIXIT sculpt, a two part epoxy. Parts were cast in resin and assembled to build this version. Used Model Masters Polly Scale and Tamiya acrylics.

Completed the sculpt of the jaw which will be reduced and sculpted over for detail later. It will be kept as a separate piece as I intend to make several variants of the creatures head utilizing a closed and open mouth. Also sculpted the upper teeth of the beast. The lower will be sculpted along with the jaw detail soon.

Completed 1:18 scale, 5" tall articulated sculpt of one half of the Moomo Brothers bounty hunter team, Del Moomo. This character can be found in the pages of Dark Hose comics Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic written by John Jackson Miller and inspired by the artwork of Brain Ching.
Figure is a complete sculpt for the exception of the hands, neck of the head and parts of the feet. The sculpt was build around a custom built articulated frame.
Figure has 12 points of articulation.
Sculpt made with Aves FIXIT.
Hand painted using Testors Polyscale and Floquil acrylics.
Paint progress on The Beast: Airshaft - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale.
I know it's been awhile - believe me. Nobody is more happy than I to get back to some figure work. It's been a crazy few weeks but I've finally found some time to invest in a piece I started a few years back.
A recap...This is a static posed figure...well, more semi-static. There's articulation in the neck, shoulders, elbows and wrists. The dome is vacuum formed from PETG plastics that can snap on and off the length of the cranium. The figure can fit in the palm of your hand to give you an idea of scale. I have this piece and the "crab walker" which are variants from my original fully articulated sculpt of the Giger beast.
I'd like to try one, possibly two more static posed versions of the creature - the "box alien" as seen in the illustrated adaptation of the film and possibly a hanging version as seen before Brett's demise in the landing bay.
Much of what you see is stylized, I get it - reason?...Because at the moment, most of the figure has been painted with a flat back coat...and visually that's boring. Would have to blow it out with a strobe to get that detail and for right now I don't think it's necessary,
Only the head and arms have been detailed but not complete. Just had some fun with the camera/mood effects this time around. More to come! I have time to work on this and the "crab walker" for a bit this weekend! YAY! #alien #alien79project #giger #airshaft #nostromo #painting #acrylics
Another head sculpt that didn't make it to the blog update...Version 2.0 of Jarael from the Dark Horse comic series Knights Of The Old Republic. This verion of Jarael will have her sporting a new head and body sculpt to reflect the costum she wore later in the series - bit.ly/pEgu5J. The image you see here is a work in progress - her tattoos have not been added yet and a bit more work is needed around the eyes.
Here are the beginnings of my Mazzic sculpt - a character from Timothy Zahn's novel, Star Wars: The Last Command, imagery from the graphic novel adaptation from Dark Horse comics.
The sculpt work of Jedi Dass Jennir(Dark Times) is complete. Took some final shots before prime and paint. Includes 2 alternate head sculpts, one with Dass wearing the hat and another "clean shaven" version of him not seen in this photo.
Finished sculpt of Zayne Carrick from Dark Horse's comic series, Knights of the Old Republic. The figure is almost a complete sculpt - Used Aves FIXIT as the sculpting material. 1:18 scale.
Happy Birthday to #RutgerHauer
Completed the sculpt work on my first version of Roy Batty - Blade Runner - 1:18 scale. Like the Deckard figure posted earlier, had to go back and make some adjustments to the mid-torso cut, shoulders and elbows. Aves FIXIT is a brilliant product but is unforgiving once cured!
Completed the sculpt of the coat and gave the figure a little more in the height department. More work on Batty to come - I imagine a few more versions of him I would like to do...#roybatty #bladerunner #replicant #rutgerhauer

work in progress images of the sisters with focus on the head sculpts. I have completed sculpting one of them so far. The other will be slightly different, with an identical facial sculpt but altered hair braid. Although the the facial sculpts are identical, I will apply different paint schemes to differentiate between the two. You'll notice one is shorter than the other...this is of course intentional. I plan on retooling the hips and legs for better articulation...not happy with how they work with the sculpt currently.

Using Floyquil acrylics for paint application...
Even more additional detail added to the chest armor, also reduced the length of the neck.
With the chest magnet working properly, I begin adding the detail to the chest armor - a bit at a time. You'll notice I've gapped the armor at the shoulder joints - this will allow for articulation. I've also decided to combine the chest and back armor to one piece, then make a mold, cast and create the damaged version from the new plastic cast.
Darth Malgus as a Sith Acolyte - RAGE version! After seeing the "Return" trailer I knew I needed to have a sculpt showing some of Malgus' fury. I now have a total of 8 alternate heads to this custom figure - crazy!
The second of two semi-static posed figures is complete. This version depicts the creature as it appears in the deleted "crab-walker" scene from the 1979 film as Lambert and Parker make a desperate attempt to escape the Nostromo. This deleted scene however was thought comical by many, not well executed on film and revealed too much of the creature...reducing it to nothing more than a man in a rubber suit...something Ridley Scott was avoiding by using smoke and shadow.
Hand sculpted, hand painted. 1:18 scale. I borrowed resin cast parts from the original Alien figure I created a year earlier, made modifications to the torso, neck, shoulders
and legs.
When crouched or "crab walking", the figure is approx. 3" high from highest point on head to the feet. When standing, the figure is approx. 5.25" high, still not fully erect as the leg and hip joints limit the full motion (again, this was originally meant to be a static posed figure). Fortunately I was able to add several articulation points to the figure: Ball jointed neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees and ankles. Vacuum formed PETG dome is removable. The tail is static but is attached using a revoltech joint and can be switched out with a longer tail option.

Sculpt update on The Queen - Aliens - 1:18 scale. Sculpt made with Aves FIXIT Sculpt from Aves Studio LLC
Continued work on the "crown" of the beast. Building up the frame with FIXIT, allowing to cure, shape and reduce. Detail will be the last step. Should have an additional update to the piece tomorrow. Would like to get the top of the carapace complete so I can begin working the underbelly this coming week.

Sculpt update to the Queen - ALIENS - 1:18 scale.
It's gotta get ugly first, with markups, roughly sanded areas....the payoff though will be worth it. A quick update showing the area where I will be centering my attention over the next several days....

A new head sculpt of Malgus as he probably appeard months later after the invasion of Korriban and the killing of his master. His skin has lost the powder white appearance, showing a more evolving dark power behind his eyes, brooding through his flesh. A sinister blank emotionless stare.
Sculpt progress on the Newborn - Alien: Resurrection. 1:18 scale, work in progress. Sculpted using Aves FIXIT Sculpt by Aves Studio LLC.
Finished detailing the jaw, which is a separate piece as you may be able to see in the new images. Sculpting the neck of the beast as well. At this point I am going to make whatever final revisions needed and go forward with making a mold of the head and the jaw. After a couple casts are made, I can make variants featuring the creatures different expressions, mouth open and a sculpt of the tongue.
At this point the neck will not have any articulation. If I can figure out a way to create a ball socket which the head and neck can rotate on possibly?...The only way I could see it working without jeopardizing the sculpt would be if a rubber sheath was cast for the neck and wrapped around a set of articulated joints. It's still early on so not worried about it. The solution will come.

Began sculpting detail to the upper torso as well as building the shape to the lower half. The main articulation point in therein body will be a ball joint just below the ribcage separating the upper/lower torso. Finer details have not been added yet - I work in stages when sculpting with epoxy since it usually only has a 4 hour cure time.
