Pricey gasoline and diesel at this new Shell station in Regina. Good thing the station's not open yet! It does make me wonder why they didn't enter 888.8 in to test the complete LED display.

The Shell Building

London

Height: 107m

Floors: 26

Built: 1957-1962

Architect: Sir Howard Robertson

Developer: Shell Transport

The Shell Tower caused a major row. Violating planning rules, it was originally expected to be refused until Shell threatened to locate elsewhere in Europe if they did not get their HQ built where they wanted it.

Original plans called for a tower over twice as high. This was cut back due to a compromise.

The entire Shell Center is modelled on the Rockerfeller Center in New York with it's complex of buildings and was the first development to have a public plaza.

When built, it was Europe's largest office complex.

It is the joint international HQ of Shell along with Royal Dutch in Holland.

In terms of concrete cladding used, it remains London's largest concrete tower.

I like shells.

These are probably all collected from various Welsh beaches.

Shell Mex House is situated at number 80, Strand, London, UK. The current building was built in 1930-31 on the site of the Hotel Cecil and stands behind the original facade of the Hotel and between the Adelphi and the Savoy Hotel. Broadly Art Deco in style, it was designed by the architectural firm of Messrs Joseph, with F. Milton Cashmore responsible for most of the work.

Standing 58 m (190 ft) tall, with 537,000 sq ft (49,900 m2) of floor space, Shell Mex House has 12 floors (plus basement and sub-basement) and is immediately recognizable from the River Thames and the South Bank by the clock tower positioned on the south side of the building (flanked by two large, hieratic figures at the south corners). The clock, which was known for a time as "Big Benzene", is one of the biggest in London. It is known for its face looking towards the river, but also has a face looking towards the Strand. In the words of architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner, the building "is thoroughly unsubtle, but succeeds in holding its own in London's river front."

Still not a lot out at Shell Creek, basically goldfields with filaree, tiny lupines, cryptantha. And a few Blue Eyes!

3 small shells, we have collected shells from everywhere we went on holiday.

Kids like to collect interesting shells and keep them on the porch.

Found these big shells scattered among the rock cliffs.

The fossil record, far from being a complete sample of organisms of the past, is slanted in favor of species that existed a long time, were abundant and widespread, with shells + hard skeletons.

If an organism happens to die in a place where bacteria and fungi cannot decompose the corpse, the entire body including soft parts may be preserved as a fossil.

Shells on black

I love these flowers. They open up one day, and the next they're gone.

I struggle with getting a good photograph of this shell. On the one hand it is incredibly detailed; and yet on the other, it is so hard to get those details to appear in camera. I shot this with back lighting coming through sheers on my workroom window, then layered it in photoshop with another image of a marble tile. A lightroom vignette finished it off.

I had an idea for a background for this one involving ice planets and the hollowed out shells of giant creatures used as the exoskeleton and armor for rocket powered mecha that skate along the ice, but nothing in the way of cool names has popped into my head.

It did me well to see this old service station still in use.

The far two garage bays have been converted into car washes. Cars enter the back and stop inside for the wash and then exit from the front.
