Bezoek bij een familie gekleed in de traditionele kledij van de Chimbu-stam. Hun hoofdversiering met prachtige veren zijn heel belangrijk. Het zijn de veren van papegaaien, paradijsvogels en andere siervogels... soms kan je de mooie paradijsvogeltjes met hun unieke veren op hun geheel nog zien als hoofdtooi. De veren worden generaties na elkaar goed bewaard, zo dat er niet telkens voor een feest ettelijke vogeltjes moeten sneuvelen... Ook de schelpen, het vroegere betaalmiddel (shell money), zijn een teken van welstand.

Sugar flowers and sugar shells. As of yesterday at 10:00 am I didn't have either of this weekends cakes even started. Did all sugar work and all baking and decorating yesterday and finished up this morning. A marathon!

This was originally a Texaco, which was built and opened in 1990.
Finally got the horseshoe up on the house door and the very clever Grandad put up some shelves under the windows for little pots of flowers and displays, I put up the shells for her arrival home from school. Will have some more pictures as we progress with the re-decoration.
The Shell is the reinvention of the bookcase! This rotating unit was designed to literally delivery a "spin" to the any living space. This cool piece adds additional storage and a hint of sophistication to any space.
The Shell Project - Originally started as an exercise to test some of the features of my new Casio point and shoot camera but turned into an extended study of a single abalone shell. The series shows the results of photographing that shell at different focusing modes and lighting conditions.
