who seriously enjoyed watching me eat wave and then slink back with that soaking hat all down around my ears.
It took about four tries before I actually got out and stayed there for that. The tide was rolling in and when faced with 4 foot swells of icy cold salt water slamming into the rock I'm supposed to be standing on... it took some serious pep talking I tell you
Shell Beach is always a fun place to visit, though unfortunately the sunset was nothing to write home about.
I'll cool it on my Beau portraits after this one haha. This is barely even a cave but a friend of mine did a very similar shot with a brilliant sunset a few months back and I knew the fisheye would give a similar look. Beau is only standing a few feet from me and I'm hunched down in a very awkward little spot. He's dreaming with my boss's 70-200/f2.8 on his Really Right Stuff gear... Perfect night to shoot some surfers, though.

I did my first food shots for a restaurant menu tonight and played with a Quantum Q-Flash...long exposures and a sunset were needed.

As the sun slowly disappeared beyond the Mediterranean horizon, the waves rolled across a beach covered with millions of tiny seashells. A lone child watching the sunset added a quiet human moment to an already unforgettable evening. Nature has a remarkable way of turning simple moments into lasting memories.

Silence and Serenity on an early morning in Shell Beach, California.
Found these cool goodies in Shell Beach.
Along the dinosaur rocks trail there is a spot with some steps down to the beach, go down and to the left about 100 yards to see these. There are a few big spots with superb fracture patterns and colors.

This is a shot from Dinosaur Cave Park across the water to Point Sal which is around twenty miles as the crow flies. Not often is it this clear on the central coast of California.
Standing on the Avila Pier with Erika shooting south, Avila Beach is on the left and the lights of Shell Beach and Pismo Beach are in the distance. The light in the sky was a planet or star and didn't move, and the lights of the pier cast an eerie yellow glow on the water.
Last night's sunset at the end of my block. I've been scoping this formation for a couple weeks and finally found a vantage point that would work for capturing Poseidon's Trident.
This was tough to process only because the colors were so vibrant last night the sunset almost looked fake.. Even the couple enjoying their martinis on the bench next to me mentioned how fake the sky looked.

My husband and I decided to try out a restaurant for lunch in one of the fancy hotels next to the ocean in Shell Beach. It was really nice, a little expensive, but not that bad. When we left we walked by their pool...wow, it was so beautiful. I stuck my camera through the fence and took a series of three shots.
This beach is actually called Shell Beach :O)
but bad me dared to suggest last time that it should be called Graveyard or Bones Beach in my previous post...lol... it is the same beach just a different side of it.
After I posted my previous picture some young (presumably) man came and left a "little odd" comment - which goes like that - ... "on a lovely day it may be wonderful.. its only mans tag that makes it a death beach it is what you make of it --should we destroy the reefs ?" - the author of the comment concluded...
my answer is - Sure ! Why not ? ...and after we destroy the reefs may be we can destroy the beaches, ocean, sky and land and when we are done we should proceed on to blowing up this planet, after which we can move on to destroying this God forsaken galaxy and after that we can go and destroy all the other galaxies in the Universe. When we done destroying all that we should consider destroying black holes, warm holes and so on... oops, I am sorry ! I have great difficulty controlling my destructive impulses !
but if to be serious, very serious ! must not forget to remain serious... -
assuming first that the young man may be very upset over destruction of a tropical coral reefs (because these were significantly damaged in a last couple of decades) I went to check out his stream for any clues of what in a world gave him this bizarre idea that he left such a strange comment in my stream.
After "scanning" his photo stream for a short while I bumped into some remarks about the environment being destroyed (trust me we are on the same page with you on that) I finally concluded that this young man is most likely upset over that. I was about to leave his photo stream when I found normally considered by me a very regular remark on how scary stormy ocean can be which goes like this - "The power of the seas in a storm is impressive but also a bit scary we have lost contol of our enviroment we are at natures mercy the huge cliffs here are pounded mercillesly" (exact quote)
Well this is where I will leave it...lol...
going back to my (I insist !) "Death Beach" I can only say that beaches along entire Sonoma County coast have a reputation for being awesome but deadly and are well known for that and this is all I meant to say in my previous post, nothing more...
here is a quote from Sonoma Coast State Beach flier - ..." the very things that make this area such a spectacular place to look at and enjoy can be lethal to those caught unaware along the shoreline... the cause of too many drownings over the years, these large waves catch people close to the shoreline by surprise, washing them into cold, turbulent water."
This flier has a large map inside with detailed info on which we found even more fun stuff like various Rocks called Goat or Death Rock ( I swear I'm not lying...lol...)
Now if you excuse me I need to go and try to find enough TNT to destroy the reefs ...

I found these two holding on to each other in a crevice. I took some photos and wandered away for about 20 minutes. When I went back to take a better shot, they were about 6 feet apart! They move incredibly fast......
Taken at Shell Beach yesterday. The weather was beautiful but the waves were high and it was windy. (note branches on the right....I'll go back when it's calm) Though there was a minus tide the tide pools were a bust so I had to find something else to photograph.
