This was one of those sunsets that took me by surprise while I was leaving. I had just taken a beautiful sunset from within a sea cave and was heading for the car when the sky and sand turned a brilliant, unbelievable pink. Just another lesson in not leaving until the light is gone.
This small cove in Shell Beach is accessed by a broad stairway down to the beach. The stairs are unusable now due to high waves taking out some of the support to it. I hope it's repaired soon.
I went to Shell Beach to check out the sunset on New Year's Day. It was amazing, I hope it's a sign of things to come.
By me, anyway, many others have seen it if you care to get up at 4:30 in the morning! That's Shell Beach and Pismo Beach in the distance.
This sunset shot was taken on Shell Beach in St. Barts. Except for right at the waters edge, the entire beach is covered in mounds of shells. Not great for bare feet, but beautiful to look at and a unique place to visit.

This was taken during the low tide on 1/22/09. It was barely covered with water, the left side has shiney tendrils that weren't covered with water.
I went to Shell Beach last month for a sunset, the clouds looked promising. However, it was really dull and my watch said it was after sunset. I started to take down my tripod and this happened. A couple watching me pack up noted how quickly I put back up that tripod! This is a lesson I have to learn again and again....never leave until the last light is gone.
This was taken on a workshop with Brady Cabe. He did some light painting on the cliffs above the beach, and there was a glow on the horizon from the hotel lights. It was actually meant to be the first frame of a 20 minute series to create star trails but our lenses got all fogged up due to the moisture.
This is a vertical version of my favorite sunset of the year, taken in January. I almost left before it happened, never leave until the light is gone!
This is Shell Beach on the island of St. Bart's The green has been stripped from the trees due to Hurricane Irma. I hope the green returns next year and that rebuilding starts soon. .
