My last sunset of 2008. (not an hdr, used a graduated filter on the lens and some layers in Photoshop)
Shell Beach is just North of PIsmo Beach. We had just eaten at a restaurant near here and the waitress recommended this location to shoot a sunset. I'm glad I asked her before searching for a location. I loved the rock features in the water and this bluff had a perfect line for the glowing light off of the water.
I was sharing this location with another photographer and his wife asked us if we had looked below us. We both were in the moment and were trying to get the perfect light and weren't paying attention to much else. She had been below us on the beach and made a comment about how precarious the bluff looked that we were shooting from. I'm glad that it held us up because it would have been about a 75 foot drop to the beach below. It just reminds me of the crazy things we do to get the perfect shot.

I snapped this composition right at the same place as the image in the comment, except that this was looking south and that other one with the northern view.

Shell Beach is a seemingly endless white stretch of beach composed of trillions of tiny shells that stretches for a 60 km and to a depth of 7–10 m. There is no sand, just shells.
The Feral Proof Fence - a project to protect and preserve Shark Bay's native wildlife, ends out in the sea in this area. It is erected across the 3km ‘bottleneck’ at the bottom of the peninsula where it joins the rest of Australia to create an area where pest predators such as cattle, foxes and goats are reduced to very low numbers.

This formation can be seen from the 101 freeway, and it's been on my list to photograph... 2 panel vertorama.
I posted another picture of the sunset shoot, but I also like the view with this one. Anyone who shoots sunsets knows that the conditions and lighting changes as the sun goes down to the horizon. This night was no different.
It was a smokey night and the sky had a really orange glow to it. For a short period of time the sun poked through the clouds and gave us this really nice streak of orange across the water right between the rocks and the cliffs. This was my best image during this time period.

Dense fog bank burning off over Shell Beach, on California's rugged Sonoma coastline. This is a panorama stitched from 3 frames, each an AEB bracket, shot flying the DJI Mini 2 drone over the Pacific Ocean. This location is just south of Jenner, where the Russian River dumps into the Pacific Ocean, looking south, toward Bodega Bay.
While we were in the Pismo area, we drove North to Shell Beach. There was a craft fair being held here near this bluff. After visiting the vendors, I walked to this location because of the pelicans. I have never seen so many of them in the same place like I did here. I asked one of the locals if this was normal and he said he hadn't seen pelicans like this either. There were hundreds of them on this rock and the surrounding shoreline. When I took this picture almost all of the pelicans took off at the same time and started circling the area. It was a pretty spectacular sight to see.
It was fog to the ground yesterday. This one shows the benefit of burst shooting. It works very well on birds in flight. Pelican is quite elegant in the air.
This is another shot from the sea cave in my previous post. This one was taken before I had a chance to get the composition I wanted, but I had to work quickly to catch the setting moon to the lower right. A fellow photographer can be seen outside the cave on the left.
Bradwell Cockle Spit on the Dengie Peninsular consists of 30 acres of shell beach together with extensive mudflats and saltmarsh. The spit has been built up by tidal currents and is mainly cockle and oyster shells.It is amazing to be walking across shells rather than sand, and to be able to enjoy the beauty of so many shells!

The wind creates lengthwise ‘waves’ in the beach that are somewhat visible in the image and they make for an interesting up and down walk to the water.
I was watching in amusement that this kayaker was having a hard time entering the crack underneath this rock while her teammates were waiting inside. It took her a few tries to get in. Surprisingly, I also spotted a bird with her little chick in a cavity of the rock about one O'clock above the kayaker. If you zoom in, you can see them.
