as it is I swore at least twice during this exposure and ate a wave about 20 seconds before I shot this. Blek!
I'd like to have been a bit more to the left or right when composing this but there wasn't really anywhere else to go on the rock I was perched on. Maybe next time I'll be braver but when I can't see exactly where my bare foot might be headed in that water? I'm going to chicken out 58% of the time. Now you're probably thinking why chicken out this time? Dude! there were seals bobbing in the water a scant 20 feet away! Still not sure but the seals around here might be dangerous. You never know!! And besides they're kinda big and fast in real life, so much cuter (and safer) in the movies

As we left the beach a couple of weeks ago, the color along the horizon deepened and the street lamps went on. I didn't have time to set up my tripod as my husband and dogs were in the truck and ready to leave so I raised the ISO (1250) and shot this handheld.

Heres a pic taken last month at one of my favorite places in Shell Beach. Had some really wonderful colors on this night as you can see. I love it when the colors from the sunset are so intense and vivid that they just bathe the world in these beautiful hues. It only lasts for a few minutes and then as quick as they appear, they're gone... love capturing these moments!

Pfeiffer Beach? Santa Cruz? Nope! I just found this awesome spot in Pismo Beach and it's walking distance from my house! How the hell did I just find out about this spot?! After a fun beach day here yesterday I had to come and get some shots. Expect a ton from here--hopefully with some decent light and clouds...

This small little guy (maybe two inches wide) was found in the Shell Beach tide pools. Those look like barnacles on him.

And added first attempt with texture...
Waste of long exposure shots but the light was nothing to write home about
Taken at Shell Beach....the surfers have to walk out over the rocks when it's low tide to get out to the surf. (second previous photo)

This is an acrylic painting I did last year based on a photograph I took in the Shell Beach area of Southern California.
It's not much of a painting, but the principles I learned from my art instructor have been very helpful to my photography.
I recently purchased some inexpensive fluorescent (daylight balanced) studio lights. I put one of these, shooting through an umbrella, on each side of the painting at a 45 degree angle, and got pretty uniform light for taking this photograph.
In the past, I'd not had very good results trying to take photos of paintings. I'm pretty happy with these results.

FINALLY a good sunset in the Central Coast! This was actually a bit tough to process. The sky was on fire to the point it almost looked fake--I took DOWN saturation and vibrance.

Spray from crashing waves and a 160 second exposure combine to give off a glow around the rocks. ND10 filter and SEP used. Shell Beach, CA.
Shell Beach is a beach in the Shark Bay region of Western Australia, 45 kilometres south-east of Denham.
Situated on the northeastern side of the Taillefer Isthmus, it covers a 110 km long stretch of coast along the L'Haridon Bight. It is one of only two beaches in the world made entirely from shells.
The beach was named "Shell Beach" because of the great abundance of the shells of the cockle species Fragum erugatum. The seawater in the L'Haridon Bight has a high salinity due to both the geomorphology and local climate of the area. This high salinity has allowed the cockle to proliferate unchecked, since its natural predators have not adapted well to this environment.
The shells typically reach a depth of 7 to 10 metres. Over time, the shells have formed a limestone that is known as Coquina.
Before Shark Bay became a World Heritage Site, the limestone was mined and used for the construction of a number of buildings in the local town of Denham, Western Australia.
Easily my favorite of the experiments with steel wool. This one was shot a little different than the others.
You really want to do these in the dark so sparks will actually show up. However I tried this one immediately after sunset, using my 10 Stop ND Filter for a 30 second exposure at f4.
