Starting back up with pictures from my road trip back in June. Possibly out for a few days if I decide to go to Yosemite tomorrow.

I went to Shell Beach for a sunset the day after Thanksgiving and found that everyone else had that idea. But it was awesome, I just watched from my favorite spot as it evolved.
On several little “islands” just off Pismo Beach, pelicans gather in much greater numbers than the ones I used to see on Santa Bárbara’s pier. .
..and here I was thinking people who take pictures out in the freezing weather were crazy......

Every year there is a Western Gull nesting at this same spot on the cliffs near Dinosaur Caves/Margo Dodd park (Shell Beach, CA). I think it's the same pair of gulls each year. The weather was hot and she was panting, but she did not give up her post, though she stood and moved around a few times to cool off.
While walking along the bluffs there were views to the south. Several hotels are visible in Pismo Beach, a popular vacation destination.
During the low tide it's always fun to try and photograph a curving line of wave coming in. You can count on getting your feet wet. Note my house up on the cliff. (Kidding!!!! That's The Cliffs Resort)

A couple months back I took the Really Right Stuff fluid head prototype for another spin. I hoped to capture some surfers but the waves were so small I may have actually been able to handle them... So instead I did some goofball selfies tracking the rare, Shell Beach Gull.
It's been too long since I've set up in the tide like this and my upcoming weekends are going to be dedicated to getting out and exploring again. While I love super long exposures, I mostly like them for the cloud effects. For seascapes I'm obsessed with shutter speeds lasting anywhere from 1/8th to a couple seconds to capture the dynamic movement of tides coming in and receding. These slow shutter speeds can really help salvage a "crappy" sunset or a boring, mid-day sky. I always get so pumped when the night sky comes up bright on my LCD or when the clouds dance exactly as I'd hoped during my several minute long exposure. But my absolute favorite moments in photography come when I completely soak my not-even-close-to-appropriate beach clothes, look at the back of the camera and say, "That was freakin' worth it." ...But for this shot in particular...I just got soaked.

Had to drive about 20 minutes north yesterday to handle some personal business, and I saw this wonderful sunset on my way there. I couldn't help but to pull over to my favorite secluded spot and take this shot.
I wasn't the only one there appreciating the scene. There was a young lady who had pulled over just as soon as I did and asked if I could take a photo of her up against the sunset. I obliged, of course. It was nice to know that someone else appreciated this view.
I've learned not to take views like this for granted.
Where CO₂ is neither seen nor felt, but the ice plants like it. Photographers like the golden light at the end of the day, especially when it sprays across a dramatic seashore. On this day, several were clinging to rocks down near the crashing surf, but not this guy. I was atop the cliffs feeding the ice plants with my heavy breathing.
Tiny Herm Island is a 20 minute boat ride from St Peter Port on Guernsey. The leaflet for the boat trips claim it to be "Paradise Found" and you can see why on a day like this. The island has no cars and you can walk round the entire coastal path in around 2 and half hours - or much longer, if you stop every few moments to take photos!
Still having issues with my frozen shoulder which I believe may take some time to fully recover. I am starting physio, so hope that will help and will try to catch up with everyone, when I can.
