I had a great time in San Luis Obispo county last weekend exploring and shooting the amazing coast. On my way in on Friday night I stopped here in Shell Beach and shot this little cove next do Dinosaur Park. I was lucky to get some pretty cool clouds. Hope you enjoy, more to come!

Next stop on our walk from Canterbury to Faversham via the Crab and Winle and Whitstable is the shell beach at Seasalter. The sun was bright but a keen breeze was whipping up a few white horses...

I was able to go out last Sunday for a Sunset. It sure felt good.

The cliffs in Shell Beach are home to many birds, especially Brown Pelicans. The younger generation is flying all about while this adult paused to keep watch over them…in my mind. :-)

Winter brings beautiful sunrises, sunsets, low tides, and great little tide pool critters.

ABOUT THIS IMAGE

A Wonderful Bird is the Pelican

Although my main focus is still long exposure B&W fine art images. I do practice photographing other subject matter. My love of Rocks, Water and Trees does include those wildlife creatures that inhabit those rocks, water and trees. I do need quite a bit of practice with wildlife photography. I use what equipment I do have to the best of my ability. Although my longest lens is the 100-400mm, here I used my 70-200mm with a 1.4x extender. Why? I don’t know. I could have used my 5DIII and the 100-400mm. Maybe better results? I will tell you I am not fond of the push/pull lens. Next time I will experiment and that is what I am about. Having fun, learning and experimenting.

Little tough to do on another gorgeous day at the beach..........

They probably need an air traffic controller to avoid any crash landings.

I went out at sunrise to take this near Eldewayen Park in Shell Beach. I took one exposure for the sky, one for everything from the horizon down, and also one shorter exposure for the reflection in the water in the foreground since it was overexposed in the other two. I was really happy about the way these colors turned out, since it's pretty close to how I remember it.

Yet another view from the beach a block from my new place...

I only have 2 goals while I live out here:

1. Have the time of my life with the amazing new roomies (it doesn't hurt they're into photography, too!)

2. Master long exposures of water--I have a LONG way to go but the learning process is a blast.

I spent about 20 minutes shooting this frame at f2.8, ISO 6400 to review the composition as it was 9:30 PM and I couldn't see a thing through my view finder.

Last sunset of 2017 from cliffs at Shell Beach.

This semi-circle of rocks revealed itself during the -.4 tide last week. This is just below The Cliffs stairway a little to the south.

Has been awhile since I shot some long exposure photos at the beach. It was a perfect day outside so I decided to drive out to the coast.

This was shot with my 10-22 (cropped down some), 1 minute long exposure.

Seriously, these were the actual colors in the tide pool, this is pretty much straight out of the camera. I stuck my camera under a little ledge and just started shooting. What is that purple stuff, algae of some sort? It looked alive. (from yesterday's low tide excursion with Nan, Jerry, and Steve)
