This is another of the tags I have been tying to trees and bushes on our walks, in the hope that it will brighten someone's day.

Have a wonderful weekend and stay safe.

Experimenting. No increased saturation, vibrancy, or curves or contrast. Just lovely rain all day!

Even when we remove small-bird feeders, one hawk or another uses the twig above the empty holder as a perch. Distant conifers surround the perch feeder with green hues; not a post-processing effect.

I tried different approaches on this daily perpetual calendar, but I prefer the shallow depth of field and painterly look of this image (I think that might come as no real surprise for most of those who know me here on Flickr ; ))

Macro Mondays - theme of November 1, 2021: Holes

Happy Macro Monday, everyone !!

( in German: Nickende Sternhyazinthe / Blaustern = Blue Star )

Wishing you a comfortable Sunday (it's raining here)

Love & Peace ! 💙

Some random information:

The colour of a star comes from its temperature. The coolest stars appear red, while the hottest stars are blue. Blue stars are stars that have at least 3 times the mass of the Sun and up. Whether a star has 10 times the mass of the Sun or 150 solar masses, it’s going to appear blue to our eyes.

CrAzY enough, that this young squirrel had found its way high up on a linepole and was sitting there without any movement for quite a while. From this ‘Squirrel’s Eye View’ he either was watching what was going on in this Wild Garden in West Wales or could it be that he did not know how to get down this pole ? He looked quite undetermined if not a bit scared. So was I when I saw this and that’s why I put some food for him near the pole and made sure the stray cat was not around.

After a while he had managed to come down safe and sound and enjoyed his treats.

My favourite butterfly from the archives...just because!!

While trying to photograph a shrike in the distance, I noticed that one of the October Glory Maples (Acer rubrum) appeared as bokeh in the background. An aspen in the foreground lost its leaves with the recent high winds. I shot more water drops than I did of the poor little wet shrike.

And it is raining again, a true Pacific Northwest month. Lovely!

Cephalanthus occidentalis.

Yes, it reminds me of the virus, too. The next one, when the flower blooms, even more so.

😄 HaPpY CrAzY Tuesday 😄!

Tomorrow is the 1st anniversary of your death - one year without you in our live! If i could get a 2nd chance ...there is so much unsaid :(

Spend all your time waiting

For that second chance

For a break that would make it okay

There's always some reason

To feel not good enough

And it's hard at the end of the day

I need some distraction

Oh a beautiful release

Memories seep from my veins

Let me be empty

Oh and weightless and maybe

I'll find some peace tonight

In the arms of the angel

Fly away from here

From this dark cold hotel room

And the endlessness that you fear

You are pulled from the wreckage

Of your silent reverie

You're in the arms of the angel

Well ok, it looks more brown but I think it's a female small blue butterfly, and it was certainly the smallest butterfly I've photographed - their wingspan is only about 27mm wide!

A busy day today. I baked some salted caramel cupcakes, among other things. Dropped one when I went to take a photo...yes, of course it landed face down :(

I took a few photos of them and then deleted them by mistake. So here's a rose.

This rose is from a bouquet I had a while back...I couldn't throw something this beautiful out. It's resting on a vintage book. I used Omni filters and I finished it with a texture (my own). The rose is a little dusty but hopefully that adds to the aged beauty effect! ;)

Hope you're all having a wonderful Saturday

Around this time of year the sun will rise between the bridge arches. However, despite trying for many years I have yet to get the shot I really want, with the sun just cresting the hill behind in the centre of the arch. I thought I’d cracked it this time, the conditions looked ideal prior to sunrise and then right at the critical moment a blob of cloud settled on the horizon 😖. Still there’s always next year and I still managed to get some reasonable shots😎.

I’d been using my EOS R plus Tilt Shift lens for most of the shoot and at the last minute I grabbed this shot by just resting my Olympus camera on the bridge decking in order to get the very low angle.

Crazy Tuesday - theme of August 10, 2021: Choose one Colour

As I missed the theme 'My favourite drink' due to wandering about in the Allgäu Alps the colour for this theme had to be coffee brown - glad I found my old brown (and sturdy) Italian coffee cup at the very back of the cabinet : ))

This horse has longer hair than I have seen before on a horse. Most owners keep the front above or around eye level, but the length here gives his face so much character!

This grass stretches towards the sun – ok, the point of light is not a shrunken sun, but just a reflection ;-) – as we like to do in low-light winter times. The light in the day slowly but surely shines longer – after that I stretch myself too ;-)

I have a problem. Even if I use a continuous shutter to capture motion, when the noise of the shutter (even on muted, which isn't much mute) stops, birds must know that and off they fly! I lose my chance at getting a bird in flight.

I know all of you expert birders don't stop that shutter finger at key moments, but how do you pause to refocus? I miss key motion shots after trying for... I won't even disclose for how many years ;-)

#EDC

Actually more of a pre-pandemic EDC item: a stainless steel toothpick with a blade made of 925 silver ( 4 cm / 1,5 inches long ).

Since antiquity it has been known that silver has anti-bacterial and desinfectant qualities which makes it a good material for a re-usable toothpick, I guess. Not that I have used it all that much in restaurants recently, because for obvious reasons I haven't eaten out much since the pandemic started. But it's one of those extra Everyday Carry Items I usually always have with me, in a small pouch so it will always stay clean in my bag. Other extra EDC items are: camera with extra battery, an assortment of adhesive plaster, one or two safety pins, paper handkerchiefs, a very small vintage, composable screwdriver (nice for fixing the tiny screws on the hinges of my eyeglasses), a miniature Swiss pocket knife, a nail set with file and scissors, a small wooden comb, chewing gums, and the pandemic usual suspects: a bottle of anti-viral desinfectant, and a spare mask. And no, I haven't been a girl scout ;) The small screwdriver had been my first choice for the theme, but it didn't look as interesting in close-up as this toothpick and its small steel case with their nice surfaces, textures and reflections.

This is actually an optical illusion:

You are not really looking through a doorway into our bedroom, but looking at the bedroom cupboard with the wooden door / door handle on the left and a reflection of our bed in one of the mirrored doors of the cupboard on the right ...

Ha, got you : ))

Day 78/365:

Smile on Saturday - White flowers

These roses are just past their best so I filled the frame to miss out the worst parts. HSoS

To confuse or at least delay the little wild rabbits from buffet dining, we purchased several wine or whiskey barrel halves last fall. Then planted bulbs: a mixture of potential tulips and a crocus or two.

Rained again last night and the temps grew chilly. Little sun to warm the blooms and to watch them open outside.

The tallest of these shoots measures barely 3 inches/7.6 cm. So small and so welcome on a dark day.

Thanks for looking!
