That could really make you jealous. These roses knock me out every morning – actually all day when I pass them ;-) And they are also a little frenzy of colour. How lucky that they want to do their best this summer ...
///

the secrets of my garden:
#Mittwochsmakro
#MacroMondaysOuttake
#Keepsake
I don't post MM outtakes often anymore, but this time it had been a really difficult choice between two images, and I also didn't want this image to end up in a permanent hard drive slumber. So here is MM choice No 2 that simply didn't make it to the group's pool because it looks a little weird (I like it weird, though), and not as elegant as my official upload. Most of the weirdness here probably derives from the fact that I had taken some photos with the watch placed upside down (and rotated this one to the left twice in LR) because it was easier to get a clear image of the 12 and the moving cursor at the same time this way.
Some of you may know that my Dad's watch had officially been declared "out of order for good" by a watchmaker many years ago and that it had miraculously started to work again when I photographed it for our November 2022 theme "Vintage". Well, I'm happy to say that it still runs happily and steadily, and this so much so that it runs really fast because it apparently always likes to be ahead of (the correct) time – but that doesn't matter at all as long as it keeps working ;)
What surprisingly also still works, is the lume on the hour and minute hand, even if it only glows for a few seconds after being activated by a strong light source. In this image, however, the lume glows courtesy of a few Lightroom sliders ("Lightlume") because it had not even crossed my mind to activate the lume during my MM Keepsake photo shoot. To make it look glowing, I masked the lume part, increased the whites, and tweaked the tone in the white balance menu. The fan-like effect on the moving second hand once again is a result of using the in-camera Live ND filter. And the colourful texture in the upper left corner is the Nato strap I keep the watch on. The watch has an unusual 19mm lug width and curved spring bars on top of that, and an 18mm Nato strap was the easiest way to fit it with a fresh-looking new strap (ordered from Esprit Nato in Paris because that's the only store that offers almost all the different colours and patterns a Nato strap can have with gold hardware).
Happy Mittwochsmakro, and happy hump day as well :)

Has anyone seen the 1958 Hitchcock movie 'Vertigo'? Whenever I see spirals I think of that movie. Multiple spirals here for Macro Mondays "Spiral" theme. HMM!
Just love the colours at this time of year. The light seems to result in such colourful bokeh which I find very uplifting.
Many thanks for all the kind comments and faves on my images.
All Saints' Day (Latin Sollemnitas Omnium Sanctorum) is a Christian feast commemorating all the saints, the "glorified members of the Church who have already reached perfection," both known and unknown. The feast is celebrated in the Western Church on November 1, and in the Orthodox Churches on the first Sunday after Pentecost.
Many people visit the graves of their relatives on this day and the following All Souls' Day. All Souls' Day in the Catholic Church is the day of remembrance for all the deceased. It is a widespread custom to decorate the graves with lights on these days.
On the eve, October 31, in the United States and many countries of Europe folk customs are celebrated Halloween. The word Halloween is derived from the English term All Hallows Eve, the liturgical eve of All Saints' Day. In its current form, which has come back from North America, it has taken on a highly commercialized and secularized form.
So today my minds are with my father! He past away almost 2 years ago.
You past away but my memories still are here. And a person is just gone if we do not think about him anymore. Soon, the 14th of November is your Birthday and i keep our lifetime moments in my heart!
Tracks in the sand
One night I had a dream:
I was walking along the sea with my master.
Against the dark night sky
shone, like streaks of light,
images from my life.
And each time I saw two footprints in the sand,
my own and my master's.
When the last image passed my eyes
I looked back.
I was startled to discover
that in many places of my life's journey
there was only a trace to be seen.
And those were the hardest times of my life.
Concerned, I asked the Lord:
"Lord, when I began to follow you,
you promised me
to be with me in all my ways.
But now I discover
that in the hardest times of my life
there is only a trace in the sand.
Why did you leave me alone
when I needed you most?"
Then he answered, "My dear child,
I love you and will never leave you alone,
especially in times of need and difficulty.
There, where you have seen only a trace
you have seen,
I have carried you."
Thank you for visits, comments and favs!

fence around a vineyard estate in the Upper Rhine area, Germany - seen on a hike
... did someone know there that I would have looooved to have a cup of good coffee / cappuccino ??
(there were a lot of other everyday items put on that long fence - but for this image I wanted to photograph only the coffee dripper ... I am a coffee addict ...)

Dogwood blossoms with a Crabapple bokeh. As soon as I saw the way this turned out in my camera, I thought of "sky blue pink" which was my father's favorite color. Miss you, dad. 💗💗

Hello There!
Macro Mondays is a weekly theme-based challenge group. This week's challenge? Unusual patterns
I was cutting up some fresh rhubarb and some strands fell away. They began to curl so I thought they might make a neat subject. As it was getting late in the day and I was too tired to shoot, I threw them in bowl of cold water which I stuck in the fridge. By the next day, several of the strands had significantly curled, just like curling ribbon. This is one teeny part of one strand. HMM!
Thank you for stopping by and for your comments which I truly adore! Have a wonderful and creative day!

Another casual play with my recently acquired Canon RF100-400 lens.
Taken handheld whilst taking the dog for her morning walk; the sun was coming up behind these plants (whatever they are), which was being defused by some low morning mist.
Shooting with such a long focal length, at such close distances, induces very shallow depth of field, even at f8, which can provide some great mood to shots.

The look – the same – resembles that of the previous century. The expression – maybe as well? A delicate, somewhat diffuse side and a clearly structured side. The courage to try something new? Possibly difficult in this time of uncertainty. That's easy to understand. I wish you a lot of love, strength, hope and above all confidence :-)

Combination of a portrait and my last picture of a feather – and this one just had to follow ;-)

fun fact: the beverage should look like Limoncello (lemon liqueur), but it's actually camomile tea in the glass and a wrapping paper with printed butterflies in the background : ))

Macro Mondays - Book
A tiny book of poems I picked up from our village library and a tiny daisy picked from our front garden. HMM

#Swag
I don't have many freebies lying around, so my choice was pretty limited – which isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially when it comes to MMs :) In fact, my two possible subjects were a red RFID-safe envelope for credit cards and the cap of an old all-metal ballpen. Since neither the material (regarding its surface texture) nor the imprint on the RFID envelope looked interesting in close-up, my "choice" was an easy one this time – aka the best choice sometimes is no choice ;)
The pen cap I've photographed for "Swag" is lacquered in a very beautiful, shiny, deep blue tone, a hue between dark and royal blue, and the company's name is printed onto the cap in thin golden letters. It says "Knorr Alarm und Elektronik GmbH" (which I probably don't have to translate for you; the English equivalent for "GmbH" is Ltd.). The company Knorr is specialised in key and lockout services and all kinds of security/safety technologies such as locks, alarm systems, smoke detectors... You name it, they've got it.
The part of the pen cap and clip you can see in my photo is about 3 cm / 1,18 inches long which also is the width of the frame. It's a single shot, and the most tricky part here was to get the angle of view so that only a small part of the lettering is legible and the rest dissolves into nice bokeh. I focused on "Alarm" simply because that word is similar (or identical) in many languages and doesn't need a translation. Processed in DXO PL6, Lightroom with a little bit of Color Efex magic as a finishing touch.
HMM, Everyone!

Anything goes for 2021 - Out of my comfort zone
I thought I would take a photo of the berries on the berberis bush in my garden. A nice quick simple photo...but then I decided to add a few textures, finishing with a red petal with raindrops on it. So my simple photo ended up taking a lot longer than I had planned. I'm not sure it was worth the effort, I probably should have stayed in my comfort zone and set up a still life!
