Keychain, Carabiner style

Scene is 3" wide and an on camera flash was employed

Back to late autumn and the fence next to an old cobblestone road (which won't be noticeable here though). This was one of the test shots of then newly acquired Helios 44m-7 lens (luckily they don't sell fake ones here like they do on e-Bay).

Broadleaf lime (Tilia platyphyllos) in early evening light.

A double exposure of a scabious flower in my garden. I'd been so focused on using my Lensbabies for my 100 x challenge that I forgot how much I love my macro lens.

A male California Quail (Callipepla californica) perched high up in the backyard Garry oak tree observing its surroundings at sunset, likely on watch to ensure no immediate threats to the covey of Quail foraging on the ground below.

In recent weeks, there has been plenty of activity from the adult quails (mainly the males) oftentimes perching high in the oak tree walking up and down erratically, peering down and making their cute and funny sounds. I suspect that there are likely young wandering about on the ground and the male is acting as sentinel.

The pastel background colours are due to the super telephoto lens (750mm fullframe equivalent) compression of the background of the distant farm field which has a purple hue and the lime green from a mix of deciduous trees (oak, willow).

Rudbeckia (a.k.a. Black-eyed Susan) is now in full bloom at Sussex Prairie Garden and looking gorgeous. It shares this particular area with pink and white Echinacea providing a feast for the eyes ... not to mention the bees. :)

A good excuse to use some small people. They have not been used in some time.

Happy Macro Mondays

A flower arrangement set out at my cousin's wedding.

Macro Mondays - theme of November 30th, 2020: Bathroom

That's the edge of a drawer of a small acrylic makeup organizer I am using to store pigtail / ponytail bands (here a fancy one with tiny cyan/blue beads), hair clips and so on ... taken in our bathroom, lit with my reading lamp which I dragged over from my home office - my husband was quite amused ;))

Measurement: you see about max. 5.5 cm of the drawer

Trying to cheer myself up - so I went for a bubbly image for today's theme :))

Happy Macro Monday :))

Here you can see the measurement: www.flickr.com/photos/151284386@N06/50662372203/in/album-...

My attempt to connect the two topics "Tradition" and (ginger)"Bread and Topping"

The cookies are 4cm in size and if proof is needed, I shot them next to the ruler. You can see it with the other cookies in the previous photo in my photo stream

HMM!

I wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Immediately after this shot i had to run for my life :)

October 2023: A month in 31 pictures

We still have our grandson with us so getting a photo isn't easy. I held this cyclamen in front of some organza then added some textures. It's rather pink but I like pink and his Lordship approved ;)

Lensbaby Sol 45 and macro filter

Sorry, couldn't resist the groan worthy title...just my sense of humour ;)

Another photo from my visit to a local flower grower with my camera club.

Lensbaby Sol 45. Fusion of two images.

In the rain. Off-camera flash (at low setting) to counter the wind effects.

Another shot of my cafe au lait dahlia, this time from a different angle and using an Omni quilted iridescent film.

Teasel (Dipsacus fullonum).

The dried heads of the "teasing plant" were widely used in the textiles industry for combing the cloth to raise the 'nap', or fibres. The workers were known as fullers, hence the species name 'fullonum'.

Another local name, Venus' basin, and also the genus name, comes from Greek 'dipsakos', meaning thirst, derives from the hollow at the base of the leaves which collect rainwater.

Continuing with my obsession with timepieces...an old wristwatch which I haven't worn for many years, but it's pretty in its sparkly glitteriness. It's marcasite - no precious stones here!

This banded demoiselle seems to have a damaged eye.

Our Daily Challenge ... shallow depth of field

Photographed while exploring with Charlie-san, Fukuda-san, Fumi-san, Maeda-san, Miki-san, sonnar-san, Take-san, and Teruhide-san. Pontocho, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto. May 28, 2017.

Granville Island, Vancouver. April 17, 2022.

The weather was beautiful when I took this shot a few days ago at Borde Hill. Today it's grey, wet and uninspiring!

For this week's Smile on Saturday group theme, Insects and Co.

Early evening in the garden. I love Helenium, but this year I'm discovering why its common name is Sneezeweed. :)

The hydrangea were in full bloom alongside a canal in Huisten Bosch, a theme park modelled after the Netherlands in Sasebo, Nagasaki prefecture, Southern Japan. Happy weekend, everyone.
