Elephants often like to stand under a tree to catch a bit of shade. This elephant probably looked at the tree, but didn't pay much attention to the lack of a foliage!

A visit to my sister this evening and suddenly remembered my pic as I left ! Hallway lampshade and shadow. Taken on Fuji X100s.
There's no shade better than canyon shade, 'cept maybe arch shade. But that's so rare it hardly counts.

This photo lets you feel the cool of the shade and the feeling of walking into the warmth of the sun. It lets you smell the scents of plants and rocks and dirt. You can hear the sound of bird song. It makes you wish you were there.
A tiny but very beautiful flowering succulent, also known as a Wall Pepper, here seeking out the warm sunlight from the shade of a dry stone wall in the Burren, Co Clare.

It was a hot day and in the process of making friends with Molly, the farm dog, we played fetch until we were both tired. When I asked the farmer if it was okay if I went out back to take a picture of his barn he said "If it's okay with Molly it's okay with me." After taking a few shots, Molly and I both sat down in the shade of this Locust tree and had a nice drink of water. One has to pick a spot carefully under a Locust tree as there are always a lot of small spiky twigs waiting to surprise you. You don't go barefoot around a Lucust tree.
The current owner is fairly new to the area and was unsure of the age of the barn. The county road crew that directed me to it was certain it was over 100 years old.

One of my pictures for the theme "light and shade": I took the theme somewhat literally.
My first attempt at HDR using "Luminance". Just one looked boring so I created a repeating collage.

this is what i got....
An old, run-down city in the heart of Outlaw territory, the Shade was not a place for the faint of heart. There was no law, no order, no peace or safety. It was overshadowed by the Queen's castle, high on the rocks above it. The lowest of the low lived down by the swamp where disease outbreaks were constant. The only people living there were the meanest, most vile creatures to be found anywhere in Roawia. Except maybe in Loreos. The Shade was the unofficial Outlaw capital.

How true these words are in Minnesota, as we don't know from one moment to the next what the weather will bring!...maybe it's like that for you in these changing seasons....
Enjoy the weekend, flickr friends...thanks for your visit....Pat...xo
*************Update
Richard had surgery for a ruptured Achilles' tendon one week ago...and we've been spending time getting used to him having his leg up 90% of the time and no weight bearing. I'll let you imagine how he gets upstairs at night time:)
Takes 9-12 months for a full recovery if all goes well.
I have peeked into flickr from time to time but not much time for comments or groups.....that will be changing as we are getting into a routine. I miss seeing your postings and my favorite groups.
