A brief shot of how my desk was setup, x86 box on the left and powerbook on the right. "Champag-en?"

Setup for the photo I made of a cavity in a slice of agate. I used the flashlight to backlight the stone, and an adapted Olympus 20mm bellows lens to shoot it with my Canon camera. The optical positioning hardware allows me to get the setup exactly where I want it to compose the shot. At the level of magnification I'm using, a couple thousandths of an inch makes a difference in the image. Also note the precision rubber band holding the flashlight to the goniometer... sometimes you got to improvise. :)

The setup for this photo for Macro Mondays.

My original vision was to add one little tiny ball-sprinkle to my cupcake, hence I poured a few out onto the plate to have them handy. But when a couple of these "originals" fell off, it seemed like the obvious choice.

Three strobes. One on camera DIY ring flash adapter at 1/4 as a fill. Adapter eats about 3-4 stops. So its actually about 1/16-1/32. Camera left gridded strobe as key light at 1/8. Under the shell with grid at full power for inner glow effect.

My setup for painting a v2.0 Rocka for my son. It's been an age since I last used my model painting brushes, most of my paints gave up and simply dried, most of them were as thick as mud. (And my hands are rusted, yes.)

Strobist: Hensel strobe with media softbox above and behind camera (had to watch out for reflections in the picture frames). Hensel strobe with 9" reflector and grid camera right. SB800 with 5" snoot for hairlight. SB800 set to wide behind the couch for backlight.

Set up used for the Hay Bale. Super simple setup. Photosel 10" Reflector (metal) is the modifier, very efficient with a 65 degree spread to combat sun in HSS. Strobe is a Rovelight 600B in HSS mode around 1/8 to 1/4 power at far distances, 10~12 feet easily. Yongnuo YN622 transceiver carries the HSS signal from my camera to the light. Camera is 5D classic and various lenses (you can see in EXIF).

Buffet layout at the Brems Wedding

This is my setup for shooting water drops. I made the stand from some scrap lumber and drilled a hole in the top to hold the cup. I stuck a nail through the bottom of the cup for the water to drop from. I added some sheets of coloured paper underneath to add to the effect. I move them, and my flash around as seems appropriate. The flash is fired by the wireless trigger on the camera. To get things in focus I place a 3" deck screw in the bowl where the water is hitting and focus on it. Then its just a case of shooting away until the battery runs down, or the card fills up - whichever comes first !!

Setup for this shot. I used the softbox rather than one of my umbrellas, because I wanted super soft wrap around light on my fingers, and less light spillage into the room.The fairly low power of 1/64 was due to the fact I had the lens wide open at 1.4.
