The 580 EXII is a disabled master. The 430 EX II with blue gel firing at the background is at 1/4 while the 550EX on the side is at 1/8
It's odd working with tungsten lights when you are so use to strobes. Cannot freeze motion and you are stuck shooting at higher iso's when you want to stop down your apature. However being able to see what you are getting before you even take the photograph is invaluable.
Strobist: Hensel strobe with media softbox above and behind camera (had to watch out for reflections in the picture frames). Hensel strobe with 9" reflector and grid camera right. SB800 with 5" snoot for hairlight. SB800 set to wide behind the couch for backlight.
This is the Strobist setup shot for Ava's 1940s photos. Alien Bees B800 with 24x36 foldable softbox, plus a Nikon SB-800 (I think it was an 800) acting as a rim light. I don't know what power was set on the flash, but the B800 was moved between 1/16 and 1/4 depending on the shooter and camera settings.
This was roughly the same setup for this shot: www.flickr.com/photos/jeremyhoward/3825351920/

Setup for THIS
Setup for this shot. I used the softbox rather than one of my umbrellas, because I wanted super soft wrap around light on my fingers, and less light spillage into the room. The fairly low power of 1/64 was due to the fact I had the lens wide open at 1.4.
This is my setup on how to make the image of the water droplet frozen in the air.
2 60-watts lamp firing on a white foam care material, a frying pan with water in it, a small tripod, a dropper, and a camera with a built-in flash
Quickie home studio setup in my home office / home datacenter. Two Sunpak 522s fired into umbrellas aimed at a black velvet backdrop draped over my workstation computer desk.

FYI..I forgot to mention in the setup shot, there was a sheet of Black Bristol Board...the walls in this guest bathroom is blue so I didn't want all that blue showing.
This photo shows the back yard setup I use to take bird photos in the spring. The square pond is just a half-sheet of plywood with border rails, covered with cheap pool liner. The plywood is about 6" off the ground, leveled with bricks and shims. I toss some rocks in the back to obscure the back edge of the pond. I then hang a perching twig from last fall over the pond, and wire up a piece of drip line to allow a little water drip. The backdrop has some trimmed juniper bush branches "planted" in the ground, with a nondescript piece of cloth to hide the retaining wall at the edge of the yard. The dropcloth is suspended between two light stands and a crossbar. I have to take all this foolishness down once we're ready to plant the vegetable garden (mid-May).

It's cool to setup your shots in your garage but not so much during hot, hot weather... I actually setup a fan but it doesn't do any good.

I confirmed the difference between Dynalite head and Sb600 (same lighting positions and modifiers).
Dynalite: right-left : 30ws : 60ws.
Sb600: right-left : 1/1 : 1/8.
Strobist: right back of food: sb600 1/1 with white umbrella. Left back of food: sb600 1/8 and 24mm beem angle with Dynalite 20' grid.
super cheap setup i used to take the pictures of the candy and the cow. the paper and tape u probably got lyin around the house, and the flouresent bulb bendable desk lamp is probably like $15 at an office store.

This is the setup shot for the Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens and the Sigma suncap (zonnecap) that I shot for selling on the local second-hand website.
There are two Nikon SB flash units (SB-26 and SB-28) standing on flash support stands I bought off eBay (they are amazing things). The product is housed in my DIY lightbox (see here for more photos in this lighbox). Shot handheld using a Canon 70-300 f/4-5.6. Setup shot taken in ambient light using Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 (I love this lens, really!).
Selectively blurred to protect the identities of the innocent objects :)
