setup for this shot.
FYI...in the final shot the shoot through was placed on the opposite end. Forgot to take a setup shot...sorry about that.
Aburrido de nuevo (En realidad le estoy haciendo el quite a escribir un texto para la U), esta vez sin flash para variar.
Appearantly the power went out while I was gone. And now when I try to setup my Roku DIgital Video Player, this is what I get.
Seriously?
UPDATE: It was not due to a power outage as (a) there was no power outage while I was gone and (b) this is an issue a lot of Roku DVP owners are having. See forums.roku.com/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=27267
This is the setup I used for most of my shots tonight. Minor variations for each one. While I was shooting the black Camaro with the bare umbrellas I noticed you could see the reflection of the 'fingers' in the car. I tossed a nylon shower curtain that I picked up at Lowes to double diffuse my key light, this really smoothed out the light on the subject and killed the reflection of the umbrella. The umbrella'd sb28dx to the left was on low power just to add fill to the grill area of the car. The snooted SB800 was set up to cast a shadow on the background. It worked great on the black cars, but I shut it off for the super snake shots.
Resulting shots are here and here.
Strobist:

1 - Strobe to the models back left side with a 30 degree grid

Here is the lighting setup I used for the Balancing Sunlight exercise. Not shown on this diagram is the friend holding the flash ;-)

SB-800 Fired From Left With Softbox @ 1/32 Power -- Triggered with a Extended TTL Cable
Just had to photograph the setup, it makes a picture in itself.

The Sb800 was used the light the whole scene while I held the sb600 at just the right angle and location to create a specular highlight on the blade. Oh and the wife holding the foam board. I need to get some clamps for that. She gets bored quickly. ; )

This is the setup for this photo.
As I forgot my umbrellas in the car, and I had no time, I used a piece of white sheet as diffuser.
I also used a snoot to avoid the filling light on the christmas light.
The warm light on the back of Yotsuba, came from the Canon 580EX II with a light red gel from Lee gels ;)
And the photo was taken with a 24-70 @ 70mm @ 0,6 s. leaned on a chair (yes, I forgot my tripod too ^^'). With the camera timer of course.

This is the setup for the "Smoke" shot.
I was using a black backdrop for this, a remote-controlled flash with "poor man's snoot" set to 1/4.
The camera was set to 1/125, f5.6 and ISO 100 and controlled via remote cord.
I turned off the light for the actual shot.
Post-processing was done in Lightroom. I inverted the colors by switching the Y-coordinates in the "Tone Curve" section. Afterwards, I added some coloring.
