Setup and lighting details for the photo below.
If I were able to draw I probably wouldn't be taking photographs. :-)

The setup in my room - the iMac for most things, the Macbook for university work and editing on the move. They both need NAMES! They're currently called Christopher's iMac and Christopher's Macbook respectively...
Looking at this setup shot, the angle of the glass has me thinking I had drunk the contents :)
As it happens, it's just water with food colouring added, so the only effect would have been a red tongue anyway.
The glass is mounted on a scrap of black foamcore, with a piece of black card wedged against the stem to prevent it sliding down the slope, plus a rubber band on the opposite side to stop it from falling over.
Lighting is provided by a pair of 20W CFL lamps fitted into Pringles tubes, which have a sheet of white printer paper rolled up and placed inside. The paper gives a softer more evenly spread light than the foil interior, to give a better exposed white background.
I did get a bit of light falling away in the corners, though easy to correct in photoshop, not ideal.
Still playing with this, so a better way of lighting might appear tomorrow ;-)

Setup for this shot. I love CLS.
Thanks to Chris Weiss for spending the time with me instead of writing his paper, letting me use his camera, and being willing to get his shirt all dirty in the name of photography.

Microscope lens setup. Effectively extension tubes and a extension tube to RMS cone adapter giving approx 160mm from focal plane to objective. A USB mini LED lamp fed from a rechargeable battery block (that goes in my pocket). The disc near then of the cone is actually a twin flash mount but comes in handy to rest the camera on when taking shots of subjects on hard surfaces

I've no idea why this is so grainy and grotty, but it still does the job.
It's the setup shot for the others in the series, the notes should explain all the technical whatnot.

Not the best setup shot, as pulling back allowed a bit too much glare on the lens, but hopefully enough can be seen.
The lens (mug) was placed on a glass shelf that has the underside painted black. Approx 6inches/150mm bahind the rear edge of the shelf is a red card backdrop.
The background is lit by a single 11W spiral CFL mounted in a Pringle tube snoot lined with a sheet of white printer paper.
On the shelf itself a diffusion screen with another sheet of white printer paper attached, behind which is another 11W spiral CFL mounted in a reflector made from a Pringles tube.
On the opposite side and not very well shown due to the angle, is a sheet of white card to bounce a bit of light back onto the shadow side of the subject.
The result can be seen below.

These are two of the three lighting setups we had.
1) ring light on the right with a black backdrop
2) 3 studio lights (2 1000W's in soft boxes) and a bare 500W. We also had a reflector below and in front of the models, hand held by Mitra
3) not shown here was a couch and I didn't manage to get a shot of that setup but I believe there were two lights on it and a reflector
Lighting setup for some of the convertible shots1 , and 2. You can see my exciting turbo diesel Fiesta parked behind the BMW Z4. Mind you, my boot's bigger, and I bet I get better mileage. Don't get quite as much attention from the girls though.

Thanks to LearnMyShot for the back lighting ideas! They have an awesome tutorial which inspired this shot. Check it out: www.flickr.com/photos/learnmyshot/4318729569/
This was how I built the lighting setup for my recent podcast shots.
1) First, I shot the background light, got it the way I wanted, then turned it off and worked on the kicker.
2) I worked on moving the kicker light to get the right side highlight I wanted. Then turned it off and moved onto my front keylight.
3) Now, i worked on how the front light would look.
Then, after i had each light individually setup... it was time to fire them all off at the same time in concert. Tada.... one final setup. It's like concentrating on each light on it's own was easier and able to see what it was doing. Then fire them all off and wham. You got it!

Only one light for this one.

This kind of set up can lead to unwanted light bouncing around and interfering with the shot. The black card everywhere was to try and eliminate this.
I usually take the setup shot after I've finished taking pictures. However, this shot demonstrated the spill of light, and it would have been a help to see this during the take!
Setup shot for shooting the Porsche photo in my very small home tabletop studio.
Sometimes I don't know if I'm taking photographs or doing Yoga exercises...
Check the notes for detailed comments.

Setup for my "Good Luck" pic which can be seen below.
The Chinese symbol was put on white paper and attached upside down on a white board. On the table below, a tray of water to reflect it. Single flash (Vivitar 2800) with a red filter was used to illuminate the symbol.
Now the observant will notice my mistake, I remembered to have the projected image the wrong way up, but I forgot to reverse it horizontally, easily flipped in photoshop thankfully :-)
Final image below.
One of the advantages of taking more than one camera with you when you go somewhere to take some photo’s (if you have access to more than one that is), is you can use two different focal length lenses or you can take some behind the scenes/ setup type shots.
This is an old image of my Panasonic GF2 with one of the best wrist straps I have ever found, a Gordy’s Camera Strap. All mounted on a Joby GorillaPod for some sunrise shots at one of my frequent haunts, Cottesloe Beach in Perth.
Image captured using a Sony NEX-5 with 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 lens @45mm, 1/80th of a sec @f5, ISO 800.
Processed using Adobe Lightroom 5.6 and Google’s Nik Collection Dfine 2.0, Viveza 2 and Color Efex Pro 4.
A strobist portrait lighting setup I used for some family pictures on xmas day.
Three lights:
- 580EXII at a bit over 1/8 into umbrella camera right for key
- 580EXII from behind, camera left, bare at about 1/16 or less, for side/hair light
- 430EX through white umbrella just below the subject, camera left, at not much over 1/32, for fill.
