Lovely pink bow flats found at local second hand store. Couldn't resist although they're not of my size...
This is part of a cotton curtain panel with the next picture in my photostream of the green polka dotted part. I cut this into different sections when I bought it but now sort of regret that. Oh well.
This part seems very "Denyse Schmidt Katie Jumps Rope" to me. She has a similar print in that fabric collection, only different colors.
The style of car with running boards and spare wheel positioning would suggest this is a 1920s shot, but I'm no car expert! I've parked my own car there by way of a 1920s 2012 comparison too.
The public toilets that were demolished for the new housing development are visible on the right of the 'Then' shot, and those, along with the smell from the stables next to them, and the Higsons (?) ale and cigarette smoke from the pub as I walked past (I grew up up the road) would probably be a most evocative smell that would 'take me right back there'. I think I will pass on trying to recreate that combination though, I think.

These are from the third batch of 'Liverpool - Then and Now' photo collages that I put together during a hectic but interesting couple of week's project in December 2012.
I've treated the project as a 'treasure hunt' trying to work out the exact location that the original shot was taken, and this section of the set were taken at various times between 1890 and 1980, mainly around the suburbs in the south end of the city, but there are also some taken in town and a few in the north end.
Sometimes the exact angle is no longer possible, due to new buildings in the way etc but I have got myself as close as I could and learned a bit more than I did about the buildings and lives of people that were around Liverpool before I was.
For the 'Now' shots, I tried to put the onus on duplicating the original rather than necessarily getting the 'best' shot I could, so if the original was wonky, I wonked up the modern one. I also tried, where possible, to catch any modern equivalent details, so if a
tram or car or pedestrian was in the original, I tried to get a bus or car or pedestrian in the same spot - that was by no means always possible, though.
A note on copyright issues - the last thing I would want to do is use someone else's work without their permission. Most of the 'Then' pictures I either bought in a secondhand bookshop or found on the internet. I believe most of these pictures are either postcards, engineers or sanitation department records pictures and just the very occasional individual person's photograph. I believe very old postcards and the like are generally 'in the public domain' so haven't done much checking on ownership of them. On the shots where I have been able to work out a previous Flickr appearance, I have emailed the persons I believe to be the owners and asked for their permission to use them.
Where they have given permission I have credited them accordingly.
If anyone sees others that they hold the copyright for, please do contact me - I would be more than happy to credit you as such and add any information you would like, or I would remove them altogether if preferred. Saying that, I hope as many people as possible enjoy what I've put together, and I would be interested if anyone has any questions, comments or corrections!
I've thoroughly enjoyed the project so far, so if I have the time, the weather stays reasonable and I find some suitable 'Then' shots, possibly more north end of Liverpool suburb-based, pubs and docks, I may well soon add some more.

A pair of CSX lite engines comes across the CN diamond and weaves in and out of the UP at Tuscola, Illinois on July 28th, 2015 at 7:25 pm. Both of these geeps are hand me downs from CSX's predecessor lines.
CSX GP38-2 #2677 was built by EMD as L&N #6026 in April of 1979. Locomotive was also SBD #6026 and SBD #2677.
CSX GP40-2 #6048 was built by EMD as B&O #4148 in October of 1972.
Its not just London that is the source of ungainly secondhand low-floor double-deckers. This ex-Oxford Trident, still with a clumsy central staircase and door is now running for fellow Go-Ahead company Wilts and Dorset. It is seen departing Lymington Bus Station bound for Bournemouth. I suppose the colour and graphics are ex-Oxford.

The other day I had plenty of fun thrifting.
Sadly, "one size" usually does NOT fit me... But with the colours this yummy, I couldn't just leave them there either.
Two curtain panels in a medium weight cotton. I loooooooove this one and must find some way of using some of it soon.
Without having connected or even sorted a single puzzle piece the first week of August has been one of my better puzzle weeks.
It's been insanely busy at work for the past months and all I have been doing is working, eating, sleeping and in between I somehow managed to find some time for bathroom breaks and personal ablutions. I already had a year's contract and in July my supervisor told me a full (open-ended) contract has been okayed. The work load and working conditions are such that I wasn't sure I would accept.
Then on Friday 3 August I heard about a job opening in another part of the company. More or less the same work I'm doing already, although it also encompasses a bit of work coordination for a small team of people. Much better hours though, basically fixed from 8 to 5. Overtime is rare and even the regular work load is a lot less. For the same money. The person I heard it from was approached for the position but he declined. On Thursday 9 August I spoke with the supervisor there and I got the position. Now it's just a matter of when I make the (full) transition.
I will have time to work on puzzles again! Also, the three-month heat wave broke and now it's more like puzzle weather.
There are two more reasons why that first week of August was a great puzzle week. Found a puzzle of a lake in the Bavarian Alps. There's some castle in the foreground. Had to drive to Eindhoven to get it, but it was worth it. And that same day I spotted the painting for sale online. It's the difficult, uncropped version. And yes, that is 100% genuine Ravensburger factory sealing.
I had this message all lined up to be put online, and of course my internet upgrade went wrong. They needed to replace the router and it took over a week for them to drop by. But at least I'm back online again. Puzzling will commense soon...

PERSONAL FUN FACT: It never ceases to impress me how detailed and accurate these Lil' Bratz fashions are. I am especially in love with this Xpress It! line, since I had the full sized dolls growing up. They were my first Bratz ever...well except for Cloe...I got her as an adult. Interestingly, I may have had mini Cloe before my first full sized gal. But the time that has passed since 2011 has made my memory a little foggy. Anyways, what you see here came with my boxed gal, who joined the family in 2012. My first secondhand Cloe did not have all her stuff...just fragments. Of course being that these garments are so insanely miniscule, they aren't as high quality as the originals. The jeans and skirt are real denim however. But not everything is hemmed...I'd imagine it's hard to sew something that is of such a small scale. It is very much appreciated that MGA attempted to capture the essence of the large doll's wardrobe for Lil' Bratz. This little Cloe is even equipped with a mini purse and scarf. I believe the scarf is made from the exact material as big Cloe's.

There are expected minor imperfections, mostly on the insides along common sweat stain areas or a few possible sunburn spots. I believe they're all mainly silk though, and they're very well-made.
The obi is a premade-type, so I don't have to learn how to tie it! Thank god, otherwise I'd never wear these.
This is a nice bookshop off the main road into Springdale, Utah and Zion National Park. I enjoyed shopping here and both Brian and I bought a couple of books.
