I bought:

White/Black Kimono (5000)

Blue Rainbow Obi Set (2500)
White Tabi Socks (1000)
Red Cord Zori Shoes (1500)
There are expected minor imperfections, mostly on the insides along common sweat stain areas or a few possible sunburn spots. I believe they're all mainly silk though, and they're very well-made.
The obi is a premade-type, so I don't have to learn how to tie it! Thank god, otherwise I'd never wear these.

Matthew Herbert – Secondhand Sounds
Yo no suelo escribir palabras definitivas, porque ya he podido ver sus efectos. La palabra es un instrumento, pero igualmente sobre él hay que tener uso del corazón y de la mente. Y si esto además se amplía a las actividades propias de quien debe comunicar con palabras y obras su trabajo, es mejor saber hacerlo a tener que sufrir por la incomprensión. Un personaje que tiene grabaciones de otros para remezclar, debe saber que el artista que se las confía lega así su obra para que otro pueda hacer sea ella capaz de transformarse y tal vez no tener otro significado (la remezcla no debe ser algo que confunda, pero si que permita apreciar y querer tanto la obra original como este nuevo resultado). Un personaje que tiene grabaciones de otro artista, junto a una libertad creadora para modificarlas debe honrar, pero además ser auténtico a la hora de cambiar. Mantener una esencia, más aportarle la suya.
Y creo que alguien como Matthew Herbert ha estado ofreciendo en los últimos años una serie de remezclas tan interesantes como gratificantes dentro de la cultura electrónica de los últimos años. ¿Por qué? Porque Herbert es un artista activo, inquieto, crítico y comprometido, pero igualmente divertido y fascinante. Quiero encontrar palabras precisas para este señor cuya obra lleva ya unos diez años en mi cabeza, a quien puedo decir que me ha impactado las dos veces que lo he visto en vivo (Cannes, enero de 2003 y Montreal, junio de 2004). Pero a veces las palabras precisas no alcanzan a cubrir (o se alejan) de las emociones sentidas al verlo en vivo y al escuchar la extensión de su obra en una recopilación como esta.
Herbert puede ser una persona tan prolífica como cuidadosa. Así como ha hecho música con su nombre o con seudónimos como Wishmountain, Dr. Rockit o Radioboy, enfrenta su propia obra con calidad y certeza. Herbert sabe muy bien lo que significa lograr que una persona se conmueva o sienta el gusto por bailar y sea seducido por los sonidos que él propone. Lo ha hecho de diversas maneras, tanto para él, como para otros. Nos ocuparemos entonces de lo que para otro ha hecho con esta doble producción lanzada por el sello británico Peacefrog en el 2002. Contiene una sustanciosa colección de remezclas que llevó a cabo entre 1996 y 2001 para artistas como Moloko, Mono, Motorbass, Dimbiman, Louis Austen, Nils Peter Molvaer y otras que realizó para él mismo también.
Son más de diez mil segundos donde los rasgos de la mezcla de Herbert se reconocen en las líneas de bajo, los beats adecuados, el uso de sampleos únicos (hay que recordar que Herbert tiene una especie de decálogo de trabajo y uso de fragmentos sonoros en un documento de lo que él llama PPCOM, que se puede consultar aquí: www.matthewherbert.com/pccom.php), junto a una manera de mantener la presencia de la voz original, sin hacer que ella pierda su vigencia.
Cada tema del compilado hace sentir que el efecto de Herbert está siendo una ayuda para cada una de las canciones, por la manera como se presenta, pasando por diversos estados sonoros y de ánimo que pueden hacer que el oyente solo quiera escuchar o solo quiera bailar. Cabe destacar cómo cada mezcla está acompañada por un alias de Matthew, que entre comillas sirve para caracterizarlo. Yo tengo de verdad especial afecto por este compilado, que llegó a mis manos, sin estarlo buscando en una de las tiendas Mixup de México, en la Zona Rosa de aquella ciudad. Vale la pena buscarlo, porque demuestra el por qué Herbert está aún vigente y seguirá estándolo un tiempo más. La manera como “mete mano” en los demás hace que frecuentemente esté siendo llamado por otros para que los remezcle, de modo tal que no me extrañaría (y aún más, desearía) que apareciera un segundo volumen igualmente doble de remezclas tan buenas como necesarias como la que este señor nos ha presentado en estos años.

We haven’t been going out secondhand shopping much as most of our trips involve dropping things off to donate. We have been looking for some furniture items so we’ve had to stop out here and there. Today we found these two homemade actual wood shelves and while the color isn’t ideal, we’re going to dig around in our paint stores and repaint them tomorrow. We also found three small corner selves, also homemade, and we’re using two as speaker stands for our stereo and one on the stairs. We got all 5 pieces of furniture for less than $40. I also found this incredible hand stitched quilt. I fully plan on picking the blanket apart and using the fabric on a skirt idea I’ve been sourcing vintage fabric for. We also got this dish and mug, they won’t be for eating/drinking with but I have some ideas.

Ok, so listen, my dear sweet Flickr… here’s the thing. In what now feels like a past life; I was once a style blogger. When I had an instagram account I had a fairly large following on a style focused one called The Werewolf Style Guide. I wrote about what it was like as someone who dressed mostly goth as a teen/young adult who found color in her 30’s. I wrote about being someone on the larger side and about being someone who fell in line with a lot of societal rules about what people my shape or size or age should or shouldn’t wear by dressing fairly plain. I wrote about learning about wearing makeup in her late 30’s. I found joy in trying the things I was drawn to and dressing as a form of walking art. Using secondhand clothes as a way to become a walking breathing spectacle. I really loved putting together interesting outfits and talking about it. I don’t really have an outlet for those sorts of photos and discussion. I know thats not normally what I talk about here or the sort of stuff I usually share, but I hope if you’ve found your way over here you’ll stick around if I intersperse some of my style/secondhand fashion ramblings. It’s a form of art paired with photography that means a lot to me as both have helped me really fall into the person I feel I was meant to become. Sort of a clown, sort of a cacophony of color and pattern and texture, mostly nonsense most of the time. Thanks for listening to me ramble and I hope these speak to some people the same way some of my non-person focused photography does.

FURX 7216 was built as Burlington Northern 7216 in June 1980.

Today after the most surreal doctor's visit which involved a cake and the reception staff and Vanessa coming into my consultation to sing happy birthday to me and my GP, we went op shopping, and I think our protective ghosts were assisting us with our purchases, cus I got these good things. And Vanessa also got some good things!
