AoA for Tristan le Chanticleer

2nd scroll ever, this one was completed at my first Pennsic (Pennsic 28) in the tent, the night before court.

Again, no historic inspiration here, but giving Batarde a whirl for the first time. Pen is a Speedball C dip nib. Higgins Black Magic ink, gouache, rapidograph pens, Winsor and Newton gold ink.

I really liked the scroll work on the violins on display by the Luthiers.

I edited photos to obtain the scroll profile. I sketched a template for inside the pegbox from the profile. I captured the fluting by doing a rubbing. I traced the throat. other useful gauges, a standard to set the height of each land as I work the scroll to the eye and gauges to check the undercutting. Another little note : on setting necks the treble side is a little lower to take some tension off the treble strings to balance string projections.

…the thing was to choose one [a readymade object] that you were not attracted by… …and that was difficult because anything becomes beautiful if you look at it long enough... - Marcel Duchamp

We make hand painted ceramic house signs with paintings of birds, flowers, trees, animals, floral borders, scrolls, family crests/coat of arms and any other picture you ask us for! Hand painted house signs make great gifts. www.handpaintedhousesigns.co.uk

We have seen, sharp-eyed, one who gathers as little wealth as the hawks for what she gains, she gives away. Bushra al Jazerii bint el Nahr, like the clouds, poured forth her gift on the desert of Avacal till it blossomed. Spreading out all the rich clothes from her trunks, the eye can scarcely realize its beauty. When gazing at one part, the eye is drawn away by the perfection of another part until one must sit down with companions and watch the lightning and the coming storm that is this great artisan. Swift of hand, full of life, fire boils within her like the snorting of an Arabian; she is the torrent that grinds the rock to smooth stone. Therefore We, Wernar Ivarsson, King and Sadb Jófreysdóttir, Queen, hereby elevate, Bushra al Jazerii bint el Nahr to the Order of the Laurel, and affirm by these Letters Patent her privilege of displaying above her shield, Vert a scimitar and in chief three hawk's bells Or, a crest of a Laurel Wreath Vert. Done this ___th day of _____ Anno Societatis, 57. Based on the Mongol Shahnama probably done at Tabriz, c. 1335. Words by Adis Ulfsdottir scroll by Althea Tambourri

This photo meets the requirements because, the scroll, with the pegs included, make an interesting different shape.

I took this photo by taking pictures of different parts of my violin like the f holes, the bridge, the strings, and the scroll. The scroll had the most interesting shape so I laid the violin down on its side next to my window on a black piece of fabric and starting taking pictures of the scroll at an angle.

The photo didn’t need much editing but I did edit the hue of red and orange which made the wood stand out more and I darkened the picture just a little bit by lowering the contrast.

Strengths of the image are the shape and the close up angle that made the scroll take up most of the image. A weakness is I wish I would’ve used a blacker piece of fabric and straitened it out more so you cant see the creases in it.

Again, you won't guess what this is from. If you do, I'd be most impressed, and then paranoid. Poor macro lens usesage since, well, I don't have a macro lens.

Scroll of Fire is a monument found in the Jerusalem hills, and it commemorates Jewish history from The Holocaust until Independence. The monument was inaugurated in 1971.

The initiative for the monument came from B'nai B'rith of the United States, and was funded by them. The monument was sculptured by the artist Nathan Rapoport, who is a Holocaust survivor.

One of the scrolls describes the Holocaust and the other describes independence. In the space between the two scrolls, there are two rooms of memorial, and in each one is engraved a quote from the bible.
