My interpretation of Hebrew Script. This was extra fun as the Hebrew alphabet has 2 silent letters and you're just supposed to know what the vowels are. Except, sometimes they would put dots around the letters to indicate what vowel sounds would be present. I was ecstatic that the period source had the dots.

The "green scroll" of Iran's green social movement was assembled in Washington, D.C., following the disputed 2009 presidential election when Iranians from more than 180 countries wrote their hopes for Iranian democracy and doubts about President Ahmadinejad's legitimacy on pieces of green cloth and mailed them to Paris. The individual pieces of fabric were assembled in a scroll measuring more than 2 kilometers long. The scroll traveled from Paris to the Hague and New York before coming to Washington.

The two comission scrolls I finished for Kingdom University 2006. On the left: Orden des Lindquistringes; Carolin von Adlersberg. On the right: Order of the Panache; Katherina Mornewegh.
I like these a lot more than my other attempt with this yarn. The smaller stitch count and lace pattern do a great job of obscuring the color-striping.

Words by myself:
To all those who shall see or hear these present letters Maynard and Liadain, King and Queen of AEthelmearc, greeting and recommendation. Equity requires and reason ordains that men and women, virtuous and of good skill and knowledge, be rewarded for their merits by renown and recognition. And therefore We who not only by common renown but also by the report and testimony of other nobles worthy of credence are truly advertised and informed that [INSERT NAME HERE] has performed feats of combat and as well in this as in other of [his/her] affairs has borne [himself/herself] valiantly and conducted himself honourably so that [he/she] deserved well and is well worth that henceforth [himself/herself] may be in all places honourably admitted renowned counted number and received among the number and in the company of the heavy weapons champions of AEthelmearc. And for the remembrance of this we assign to the said [INSERT NAME HERE] the right to bear the arms and devices of the Kingdom champions. Epiphone Scroll, late 70's. Hang tag from Mike Guthrie's old shop in Athens GA where I bought it, circa 1999.
Award of Arms for Christelle of Devonshire, AS 35, Decoronation of Balfar and Luna.
Scroll not based on any historic model, first attempt at acanthus, used far too many graphic design tools. Materials: Speedball dip pen, gouache, acrylic silver ink, Winsor and Newton gold ink, Higgins Black Magic ink.
*Note: There was a clerical hiccup - Christelle is "Lady Lady Christelle". 2 AoAs were created, between myself and Mistress Eloise of Coulter, for this gentle.
I'm salvaging the scroll wheel, etc. I might incorporate it directly on the laptop as a little sidecar. I did repair the broken USB pin but the computer reports that there's a problem. I have started mapping out the schematics for the scroll switch. There's an LED, three switches and provision for a fourth, and two transistors to pull up the signal coming from the scroll wheel. I'm having fun reverse engineering this.
Glad I took this and I didn't know why just then, but this is an instrument that is a little homeless just now- we gave the piano away. I liked the piano, It wasn't good for much, but I liked it. Ahh. Shit dies. New shit comes along. Such is life. For now the little fiddle stands in a corner hoping someone who can play it worth anything comes along. Twice neglected and now suffering this indignity.

Scroll #3 completed. I was able to play with the lighting effects in post to make it look sort of like the pictures I have seen of existing scrolls of the period. What I learned after the first one is that you never erase the pencil lines on the parts that haven't been written yet to help out the person who is finishing it in case that person isn't you (or even in case that person is you).
Unlike my costuming efforts, which focus for the most part on the 16th century, I have been working on calligraphy and illumination styles that date to around the turn of the first millenium and a little later. I'm determined to keep working on it until I get the hand looking right.
Well, this\'s my 1st attempt with a tatt gun. Pretty good i think. I won\'t b charging any time soon but hey.....i had 2 run off an meet a fellow craftsman about a wrkshop at this point....more scrolls 2 follow when it\'s not so painful.

There are often artists here who come to paint the scenery. Next to Casper's Wilderness Preserve. It is inspiring to hear the birds and see wildlife like frogs, butterflies, and lizards.

The question was posed: What is your favorite handmade gift you have received? There are a couple. The first is already packed -- it's a hand-drawn birthday card presented to me during a trip through the UK. And this is another. A handwritten scroll given to me after a successful battle against cancer. It reads:
If God would choose a plant to represent him, I think he would choose of all plants the cactus. The cactus has all the blessings he tried, but mostly failed, to give to man. Let me tell you how. It has humility, but it is not submissive. It grows where no other plant will grow. It does not complain when the sun bakes it back or the wing tears it from the cliff or drowns it in the dry sand of the desert or when it is thirsty. When the rain comes it stores water for the hard times to come. In good times and in bad it will still flower. It protects itself against danger, but it harms no other plant. It adapts perfectly to almost any environment. It has patience and enjoys solitude. In Mexico there is a cactus that flowers only once every hundred years and at night. This is saintliness of an extraordinary kind, would you not agree? The cactus has properties that heal the wounds of men and from it come potions that can make man touch the face of God or stare into the mouth of hell. It is the plant of patience and solitude, love and madness, ugliness and beauty, toughness and gentleness. Of all plants, surely God made the cactus in his own image?
