Lady Morighane has worked diligently and quietly to serve and support the Barony of Rising Waters. Serving at gate, list table, in the kitchen, the arts and many activities too numerous to recount. The lady also took up the sword to defend these lands, then she was taken away from us to Northern Lands before we could act and recognize her for these deeds. We are pleased that Lady Morighane MacDermott has now returned, bringing with her a bonny child. Now we are minded to correct our tardiness and bestow upon her an Award of the Chalice’s Crystal. Given this first day of November, AS forty and nine, at the Lady Mary Memorial Tournament.

My first commision work. Lord Anton wanted this calliged for Her Royal Highness Brigh who sponsored him at the Rose Tournament. I choose not to do Illumination so this is how I worked the Heraldic rose into the scroll.

Finally I got it right and I was able to move on to the next step. The piece on the right is not connected yet, that is why there is such a large gap. It needs to be trimmed but I need a break. It is wears one out looking at the small parts of a puzzle without seeing the whole thing.

Growing up on Front Street in Hartford, Walter attended the Wadsworth Atheneum’s Arts Development Program for youth in the late 1950s. His interest in blacksmithing was sparked by finding some old iron hardware, and he set up his own forge in Manchester where he has lived and worked for many years. Walter’s main teacher was Francis Whitaker, an apprentice to famous ironworker Samuel Yellin, and he was influenced by Phillip Simmons of Charleston and Manfred Bredhol of Germany.
Walter has made many types of metal equipment, furniture, and tools and utilitarian hardware. He has a special affinity and skill with architectural ironwork, in forging and shaping a strong heavy material into graceful curving forms that have a durability and a function. His production has included gates, some of them massive in scale, as well as balconies, lighting fixtures, window grilles, fireplace screens, and tools – all hand-forged. Walter worked on shipsmithing restoration for the Amistad and the Charles W. Morgan ships at Mystic Seaport. He has also been a popular teacher at the John Campbell Folk School in North Carolina, the Brookfield Craft Center, and Rhode Island School of Design. He is the author of books about Connecticut and maritime history.
I like these a lot more than my other attempt with this yarn. The smaller stitch count and lace pattern do a great job of obscuring the color-striping.
