...the first pair of felted slippers I ever made have been in the back of my closet for the past few years with holes too big to easily repair.
Today I sewed some leather soles on them so I can wear them for a few more years. They're ugly and old, but they're warm and now wearable!
Many snakes are killed on the road all over the World. We saved this Yellow Racer Whipsnake (Chironius spixi) just at the right time before any car can kill it and of course I get bited like always (right hand) but I tooked the risk because fortunately I knew the snake is not poisonous

The final run of NYC stuff, before I start on a huge stack of new stuff.... Taken on the Staten Island Ferry during a fabulous trip to New York with M in June 2007.
Layla made her opinions known to the kayaking guy. Needless to say, with three wild, wet poodles, we made an impression on Saturday!
The brick building in the background is our ginormous flagship REI store.
Not pictured here: Layla chasing bicyclists! Once she finished off the kayakers, she moved up the bike path :-)

For my hillberg Allak tent I've replaced the standard guylines for something lighter and more compact (though less durable).
0. Start with an expired calendar free of incriminating calendar entries.
0.5 Check that step 0 is true.
1. Cut the calendar down the spine, saving the cover because it be an envelope, too.
2. Make sheets into a square shape, because these are easiest to work with. An easy way to do this is turn turn the top sheet 90 degrees so it forms an L with the sheets below. You should have just defined a line that allows you to cut all sheets below into a square.
3. With the image down, turn the sheet 45 degrees so it's diamond shape. Fold the left and right corners in so that they just touch. Then fold up the bottom corner. The format is forgiving. No measurements should be necessary.
4. Apply two pieces of scotch tape for the seams you've made. I like the tape to around the sides a little so there' s no edge to be snagged in the postal system.
5. Go ahead a fold town the top flap for easier storage.
6. Bonus: Go ahead and put return address stickers and a blank white label for the "to" address. Now when you want to use, you just have to add the address and stamp.
Abstract patterns seem to work best. My favorite calendar envelopes were made from an old fractal calendar.

35mm film shot of my roommate of 26 years, Pam, holding up an ancient cedar in Cascade River State Park along a small section of the Superior Hiking Trail that we walked.
The expression on our Golden Retriever, Misty's face is priceless. She didn't approve of this tree-holding-up business at all.
Pam died of complications from diabetes on October 16, 2018. She was 62 years old.
RIP, my Wonder Woman! You are already missed more than you would ever have imagined.
