...the first pair of felted slippers I ever made have been in the back of my closet for the past few years with holes too big to easily repair.
Today I sewed some leather soles on them so I can wear them for a few more years. They're ugly and old, but they're warm and now wearable!
During National Nurse Anesthesia Week 2014, Duke SRNAs (students from the Nurse Anesthesia program) conducted several community service and outreach projects. With money raised through coffee mug sales, they made and delivered 20 blankets to the Hock Family Pavilion, a Duke inpatient hospice facility. They provided breakfast for residents of both the Ronald McDonald House and the SECU House of Chapel Hill and completed cleaning projects at both facilities. Duke SRNAs braved the cold to sort and organize food donations at the Durham Food Bank and spent time at Saving Grace, a local dog rescue shelter in Wake Forest. They promoted the nurse anesthesia profession by talking with students at various high schools around the area and at Duke and UNC. They also staffed information tables at the Duke School of Nursing and the Duke Hospital cafeteria.

35mm film shot of my roommate of 26 years, Pam, holding up an ancient cedar in Cascade River State Park along a small section of the Superior Hiking Trail that we walked.
The expression on our Golden Retriever, Misty's face is priceless. She didn't approve of this tree-holding-up business at all.
Pam died of complications from diabetes on October 16, 2018. She was 62 years old.
RIP, my Wonder Woman! You are already missed more than you would ever have imagined.
