George, Evelyn and Brigid saving the Turf (aka Peat) at a bog in south Tipperary.

The turf is seldom hand-cut nowadays; cut by a small machine instead.

Thanks to the three of you for the enjoyable conversation! Thanks also to the nearby Cuckoo who kept calling, the first I heard for a few years, but George had been listening to three of them nearby earlier in the day, and one flew apast him!

Rain! Not something you see often down here in West Australia. I took matters in my own hands and tried to save some plants before it was too late. Don´t think it worked though..

Cow #58, a first calf heifer, had a dark grey bull calf yesterday. Today we spent about 2 hours finding him.

In the north hay field, right near where the coyotes live...

He was scared and dehydrated. Meanwhile, his mama was having a lovely nap in the trees several football fields away.

Steve and Jody caught him and managed to reunite him with her. She was about as excited as a 13 year old who has no idea who the baby daddy is...

I'll be out there bright and early tomorrow to make sure she still knows where he is...

A chance to play photo journalist! Firemen and investigators from the Hillsboro, Oregon Fire Department checking for hotspots and searching for the source of a small fire in the garage of a house in my neighborhood. No injuries and they got there just in time and it mostly just scorched the drywall and did some smoke damage from what I can tell.

Taken this afternoon...... it was a wonderful cobalt day. Not a cloud anywhere.

Just in case we don't see the sun for another 3 weeks, I'm saving this daylight for a rainy day.

Home energy saving kits are now available to borrow at all Dublin City Public Libraries.

The Home Energy Saving Kits have been developed by Dublin's energy agency Codema and contain six practical tools to help the public save energy at home. The items in the toolkits address three key areas of energy use in the home - space heating, hot water and electricity consumption - and can help identify common problems such as lack of insulation, poor ventilation and the appliances in the home that might be driving up electricity bills.

A photograph of Saving Jars showing saving for a house and saving for a holiday. The photo shows two money jars containing pounds (notes, coins and pennies) labelled with 'house' and 'holiday'. Continuation of the story

Another round struck our cover. this time it shook a little. All of a sudden I heard a grenade wiz over my head, I looked over the cover and there was a plume of smoke right in front of us. "GET OVER HERE! DOUBLE TIME IT!" yelled an unknown voice. I searched for the source at the same time the DEVGRU guy grabbed me and pulled me towards a door. A man popped around the door and launched all six grenades from his Milkor. The DEVGRU guy dropped me and the "saving grace" grabbed me and pulled me deeper into the building while the other provided cover fire. The man with the GL asked me if I was alright, I managed to grumble a weak "yeah". It was the first time I talked to someone since I got blacked out.

Or maybe it's "Enabling Planet"; it's the place where celebrities go to be reassured that the stuff they're doing is ok instead of weird, freaky or just plain depressing.

I've been stashing away cash for an upcoming trip and some photo equipment treats. I just wanted to roll around in it!

On Sunday afternoon I spent some time cutting all the seed heads off of my dark purple columbine. I ended up with thousands upon thousands of seeds, way more than I need. I sprinkled some along the edges of the woods where I want to get them started and I saved a few for my mom. Since I have so many extra seeds, I figured I’d give some away.

Head on over to my blog for a chance to win the free seeds: chiotsrun.com/2010/07/15/dark-purple-columbine-seeds/
