I thought of this one after attending a Max Brooks lecture. I whipped thru it so it would be hanging over my mantle for Thanksgiving (yes, I know just getting around to posting it). I got to thinking what a grandma who went thru WWZ would make and came up with this sampler.

I altered a pattern that I found in the book Threads of Time - the original pattern is by Dayna Stedry. I truly hope she doesn't find offence at my alterations.

The alterations:

The original quote was very sweet and said "A house is made from brick and stone / A home is made of love alone" which I changed to a Max Brooks edict "Go up the stairs / Destroy the stairs" (zombies can't climb).

I "destroyed" the stairs on the front and boarded up the downstairs windows. For extra security since we live in logging territory I also chopped down the trees so no logger zombies could get into the second story window.

The "flowers" in the original I left as is except in mine they are now zucchini flowers - so the people in the house can have a food source.

At the very last minute (as I was stitching the X no less) my SO suggested to put in WWZ instead which at first I thought looked awkward, but now really like.

The thing I like most about it is that it hangs looking sweet and homey over the fireplace and it is fun to see people slowly start to realize something is "off" with it , then "get it" and laugh.

Every time we have gone, we have order a bit of everything. And everything has been so good. I really wish I could remember the name of the restaurant.

I wasn't sure about the fabric pull for this block, but now that it's photographed, I like it!

A knitting sampler, knitted last night and about to be frogged. I used the yarn that I got from the Biggan Dups class on Continental Knitting at the iKnit Weekender. It is DK weight 100% Australian Merino Wool and a delight to knit with. All of this stitch patterns were worked from "400 Knitting Stitches: Great Stitch Patterns" (Murdoch Books) - except the "heel stitch" which I found on www.thedietdiary.com/blog/lucia/525 - and the stitch names and page numbers can be seen in the 'notes' as you hover over the photos on their flickr page.

Sally gifted her sister with this sampler afghan. It's made of six different patterns of 10 inch squares of Patons Canadiana and another six of Patons Candiana Colours (the variegated yarn). The knit edging is applied I-cord.

The top is finally done. I added another four blocks and some interesting sashing in the center to modify the traditional sampler look.

VIntage Sampler from sweetfindings (etsy) bought for my daughter who has decided to dive headfirst into the art of Jewellery making!

There was a lovely mix of cute stuff inside, but the packaging was uber cute too!

my progress on the Storytime Sampler (by the Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery) - with a few modifications (mostly in colour, plus the addition of some backstitching and french knots)

A little sampler (thanks Krista, that book is gold!)

Strawberries + strawberry blossoms together are supposed to symbolize virtue in women (the flower and the fruit - fruitful yet chaste). I wonder if the designer knew?

I'm contributing to the April Sampler (www.homeofthesampler.com). I've packaged my bottlecap necklaces up by cutting 2"x3" cards from food boxes, cutting slits in the top to run the chain to the back and putting them in small bags. Then I stapled my biz card to the bag.

Fried parts from Chicken Valley Farm. Didn't take much to convince Stella.

A Roland SP-505 sampler. This thing has great effects.

This is a double size quilt. All of the squares are different.

This is the first quilt project I finished.
