During late summer / early fall, the moose begin to congregate in Denali NP for the annual moose rut. Both the cow and bull moose are usually present, though the bull moose are hot on the trail of the cows, trying to stay close to them. However, first the bull moose gather and begin to size each other up for the fight for the females and the right to mate with them. By this point, as you can see, most of the shedding of velvet from the antlers has already completed and shiny tines and bare paddles are all that's left ... perfect for easier spotting.
When the showdown is imminent, it would be best for everyone to stand clear of these crazed bulls. As you can imagine they can get quite testy.
In this image, a rut ready bull moose emerges out of the willows as it travels the fall-kissed landscape. Let the best bull win!
Happy Friday!

Two stags squaring up to each other.Quite an intense minute or so before the one on the left submitted
He is a little bit sad - i think - but that is nature!
Die Brunftzeit geht dem Ende entgegen - da muss MANN sich noch von der besten Seite zeigen :-)

…A shot from a walk the other day around the perimeter of the village, most of the cattle are in now - the ground can recover a little now.……..

Am Darßer Ort an der Ostsee, wunderschöner Wanderweg auf dem man fast immer Wildtiere beobachten kann. Bei den richtigen Windverhältnissen kommen die Hirsche ziemlich nahe an den Pfad.
At Darßer Ort on the Baltic Sea, a beautiful hiking trail where you can almost always spot wild animals. In the right wind conditions, the deer come quite close to the path.
It was Saturday morning when we noticed a very large buck following a young doe. It's late in the mating season, but this small girl had the interest of the male. Soon there was another buck challenging the first one. The first one is the king of the forest around here and did not take to the threat of the other. He furiously chased him away time and time again. Three smaller bucks and a couple of youngsters watched from further away. The doe and the big guy crossed the street and the second one watched, wondering if he should try again. Here the two guys are in a staring match.
I recently got back from London which saw me photographing the deer rut in Richmond Park. The first morning was never misty and overcast but the second gave us some stunning light. Here is a young buck walking over a hill towards me on the second morning.
A recce in my favourite Ramson Woods early this morning, only to find it rutted with tractor tracks.
I go back here in early May every year and it is starting to lose some of its allure due to forestry activity. Also, no matter how many times I visit I have yet to find any trace of mist or sea fret (it is near the coast), I was here at 6.30 am today and the aroma was intoxicating.
The Wild Garlic is still a week away from its peak, so I will try again over the coming days and keep my fingers crossed for some better conditions and light!
one from last year ..like this view on black ,but would like it with the old style boxes instead of the present home page crap
Today, I spotted a buck and four does on the edge of our meadow. It's rutting season, and this particular male is accompanied by seven females, although three are out of view.
With no mud around, it looks like this stag has been making full use of his urine for scent marking.
