This young Bison is a few years from contending for the females but is old enough to get caught up in all the bellowing and excitement of the Bison rut !!

Période de rut (du 15 juillet au 15 août), les mâles ont un comportement territorial spécifique : ils frottent leur bois contre des arbres, déposent la sécrétion odorante de leurs glandes frontales et grattent la terre.
L’œstrus de la chevrette ne dure que 36 heures environ.

The fallow deer rut is in full swing over here.
These bundles of testosterone were putting on a display and challenging each other all morning long. As a result, they didn't pay much attention to me and I was able to get relatively close to get some shots.
Hint, they're on your right...
Actually the primary target was up the road on the left, a huge bull elk (shown in comments). I was first one, didn't take long before more stopped.
His girls were gathered around my car paying us no mind. The bull was warier keeping more distance. They must get tired of this.
Taken just north of Jasper AB. The place to be during the rut in the fall.

The Moose at Elk Island National Park usually run away at the first sight of people, however this young bull after spotting us hiking was so enthralled in the rut that he actually approached us while vocalizing at the same time before heading off into the woods.

Siguiendo la ruta en la carretera y a través de esos cristales del coche en plena marcha yo seguía cogiendo estas capturas donde me transportaban hacia una paraiso lleno de nuevos horizontes.
Os dejo con esta música que siempre me ha inspirado mucho y es una de mis favoritas, como fondo a esta imagen, sugiero ver en grande.

All was pandemonium where the Fallows were... At least 8 were scaring off the youngsters and everywhere we looked, the bucks were snorting, growling, trying to steal the Doe's. The fights were long and stressful. I have one image before this was taken, where the darker buck was showing the whites of his eyes to the lighter Buck and before we even knew it, the lighter buck had wheeled round to charge this Buck... and eventually the lighter Buck won a long fight. This was a long and loud and stressful fight for them and for those watching.
The fall season is fast approaching, its my most favorite time of year, few mosquitoes, cool temperatures, and nothing is more exciting to me than the elk rut.

With the Bison rut in full swing, two large bulls use intimidating poses to determine dominance and avoid a full on fight, all in hopes of one day becoming the alpha breeding bull of the herd !!

This Jasper bull elk was persistent in wooing his lady, walking behind her for quite a ways. Wished him luck as they disappeared into the brush.
The Elk Rut is always a grand show.

During the autumn the deer "rut" (breeding season) takes place. The Red stags and Fallow bucks compete for females.
The males roar, bark and clash antlers to fight off rivals and attract as many females as possible.
Do not touch, feed or photograph the deer at close range.

I shot this deer earlier this morning and put my life in danger to get very close so you my friends can see the colour of their eyes.

Au coeur de l'été, le rut du chevreuil bat son plein, petite poursuite dans la plaine picarde pour ce brocard qui aimerait bien assurer sa descendance
During late summer / early fall, the moose begin to congregate in Denali NP for the annual moose rut. Both the cow and bull moose are usually present, though the bull moose are hot on the trail of the cows, trying to stay close to them. However, first the bull moose gather and begin to size each other up for the fight for the females and the right to mate with them. By this point, as you can see, most of the shedding of velvet from the antlers has already completed and shiny tines and bare paddles are all that's left ... perfect for easier spotting.
When the showdown is imminent, it would be best for everyone to stand clear of these crazed bulls. As you can imagine they can get quite testy.
In this image, a rut ready bull moose emerges out of the willows as it travels the fall-kissed landscape. Let the best bull win!
