This young Bison is a few years from contending for the females but is old enough to get caught up in all the bellowing and excitement of the Bison rut !!
Elk Island National Park
The fallow deer rut is in full swing over here.
These bundles of testosterone were putting on a display and challenging each other all morning long. As a result, they didn't pay much attention to me and I was able to get relatively close to get some shots.

All was pandemonium where the Fallows were... At least 8 were scaring off the youngsters and everywhere we looked, the bucks were snorting, growling, trying to steal the Doe's. The fights were long and stressful. I have one image before this was taken, where the darker buck was showing the whites of his eyes to the lighter Buck and before we even knew it, the lighter buck had wheeled round to charge this Buck... and eventually the lighter Buck won a long fight. This was a long and loud and stressful fight for them and for those watching.

The fall season is fast approaching, its my most favorite time of year, few mosquitoes, cool temperatures, and nothing is more exciting to me than the elk rut.
Jasper National Park and from the safety of my vehicle while waiting for the elk herd to cross the road !!

rut, feeling the 'heat' ! those tear ducts in front of their eyes are a way of transferring scent.....you'll notice them rubbing their face against trees/shrubs wanting to establish territory...
With the Bison rut in full swing, two large bulls use intimidating poses to determine dominance and avoid a full on fight, all in hopes of one day becoming the alpha breeding bull of the herd !!
Elk Island National Park
During the autumn the deer "rut" (breeding season) takes place. The Red stags and Fallow bucks compete for females.
The males roar, bark and clash antlers to fight off rivals and attract as many females as possible.
Do not touch, feed or photograph the deer at close range.

I shot this deer earlier this morning and put my life in danger to get very close so you my friends can see the colour of their eyes.

La levada do Caldeirão Verde, impresionante obra de arte construida en el siglo XVIII, se desarrolla a lo largo de la meseta a casi mil metros de altitud.
Esta levada de uso agrícola constituye una importante vía de acceso de personas, en su mayor parte turistas, por el interior del valle profundo de la Ribeira de São Jorge y ofrece al caminante una vertiginosa y espectacular visión de la orografía del interior de la isla.
Al final, el lago de Caldeirão Verde que se nutre del agua que se proyecta verticalmente del lecho del río a una altura de 100 metros.
Dyrehaven is a large natural park filled with forest areas, small lakes and open plains. As the name may reveal, the Dyrehaven is known for its more than 2000 wild deer, and it only took minutes before we encountered a bunch of grazing animals.
Dyrehaven is widely used by guests who all year round with picnic, running, bikes or rides around on the hills of the Dyhavea. You can even take a magnificent trip around a horse-drawn carriage if you feel for it. And this photo was taken on one of this carriage trips.

Belle scène de rut ce matin là. La séquence dure 16mn sans arrêt. Le broc poursuit la chevrette dans les 4 coins du pré. Celle-ci plus petite et plus agile le fait tourner en bourrique. Après une petite pause, la cavalcade reprendra dans le bois.
Am Darßer Ort an der Ostsee, wunderschöner Wanderweg auf dem man fast immer Wildtiere beobachten kann. Bei den richtigen Windverhältnissen kommen die Hirsche ziemlich nahe an den Pfad.
At Darßer Ort on the Baltic Sea, a beautiful hiking trail where you can almost always spot wild animals. In the right wind conditions, the deer come quite close to the path.
