Ruby Van Meter held their third annual Elementary Swim Championships on Friday, February 24th. Swim Coach Gene Hildreth says, "All the kids love swimming here. For some, it's therapeutic, and for others it's a great physical challenge where they get some good exercise." The championships are a way to get the students excited about the upcoming special olympics that the older students will compete in.
No telling how many photos were taking to get these images. They are extremely sketchy and aggressive.
Having my lunch and was happy to see this little one taking a break on the feeder long enough that I could get some pictures!
This was our first sand drawing directed by me Jamie Wardley and with the art work of Mark Yates (www.markyates.co.uk) It was 15 x 20 meters and done in two hours leaving time for a hearty lunch and a sand castle.
Ruby Stone died on 25 October 1981, aged 64.
She lived with her family at 8 Leacroft Road during my 1950s Winster childhood (2 doors from my family home) so she was a prominent figure during my childhood.

LA Zoo & Botanical Gardens 11-21-15 --- This guy was hanging around for about five minutes without ever dropping his ruby crown. Being in the harpy eagle enclosure may have had something to do with this.
About to break into her tap-dancing sequence. Go Ruby!
Surviving film at this point must have been a bit grainy, hence the speckly image. Weird to contemplate just how long ago some of these films were made - this one's 74 years old. I remember watching the same year's "Gold Diggers of 1933" back in the '80's with my grandmother when it'll have been only 50 years old. Everyone in this film died of old age years ago. Contemplate yer mortality as you watch cute young Ruby clippety-clopping on the roof of the taxi.
