This photograph was taken many years ago when my friends, Fred and Ruby, got married.. Ruby made the comment that she would like to have her flowers in color so I took a copy of the picture and did my best to give her that wish... I'm quite sure that I didn't get all the lace just right but it was appreciated and took a long time to get done...

This location was built and opened in 1993.
A ruby tiger is a small fat pink moth, Phragmatobia fuliginosa to its friends. As its name suggests, it's part of the tiger moth family, whose beautiful colours put many of our day-flying butterflies to shame.
Ruby tigers in the north of England are often darker than their southern relatives, and there is even a rare yellow variety.
It feeds on dock, dandelion, plantain and golden-rod and is at home in many different habitats, from moors and rough hillsides to water meadows and gardens.

This painted barn must be a brand new advertisement for Ruby Falls. I found this barn on Google Maps street view, and from there, the barn does not appear to be painted when the picture was taken in 2009.
This ruby-throated hummingbird was fiercely guarding the hummingbird feeder we set up at out camp site. I'm afraid she was probably devastated when we left.

Launched in 1979, the 63 foot sloop Ruby is said to be the longest serving charter boat on the bay. Her colorful master--Captain Josh Pryor--appears to be something of a legend himself, as is his wife/girlfriend/female companion, who accompanies him on each trip. Alcohol plays a prominent role in every account I've read of trips aboard Ruby; most of which can be summed up this way: you can't bring your own alcohol, but the ship is already stocked with all you'll ever need & then some. This Ruby-throated Hummingbird has been hanging out on my Mexican Sunflowers all day. Something is not quite right with it. Maybe the heat has gotten to it, maybe something worse. It's a little slow and hardly scared of me. It's been sitting on the flowers all day. Hopefully, it'll be OK. Regardless, I'm thankful it allowed me to get the best photo I could possibly get of a Hummingbird, and I'm happy I've been able to provide a spot for it to rest and eat. If you want Hummingbirds, Mexican Sunflowers are the way to go. I've grown them for two years now and they really bring in the Hummingbirds, Bumble Bees and butterflies, specifically Monarchs and Swallowtails.
