Ruby Beach, Washington Coast, 2011
We really picked the right time to get to the coast, had sun all day on Friday and then storms all weekend. Personally I enjoy being at the ocean during the stormy season, but having the sun present allowed for this. Awesome.
Built in the 1880's as a home for the mine superintendent, the house was lived in by several different families until 1966 when it was abandoned. Only a few buildings remain of the once thriving mining town. A small mining camp developed starting in 1869, after mining began in the area. It grew rapidly and by 1878 there were 2500 people. The mines dwindled and the population had dropped to 700 by 1885. A severe storm in 1910 washed away the railroad and destroyed most of the town, leaving what was left uninhabitable.
Ruby needed her nails cutting so I brought her into the sun lounge to do it. She was as good as gold, although she did make a little squeaking noise when I first tipped her up.
Ruby Tuesday in Temecula, sorry, Seau's of Temecula; named after former NFL linebacker from the San Diego Chargers, then the Miami Dolphin's and then the New England Patriots Junior Seau, oops, sorry, this is Creekside Nails... never mind, it's closed.
This is the former Ruby Tuesday restaurant of Temecula, it seems that this restaurant, alongside it's sister restaurant in Chino Hills, were owned by Junior Seau (January 19, 1969 – May 2, 2012), this restaurant opened as Seau's in April and closed in November 17, 2010, then it seems it reopened as 'Creekside Nails' but that closed too.

This ruby-throated hummingbird was acting like a "feeder guard" protecting the feeders from any usurpers to his territory.

Ruby's Redondo Beach closed on Sept 8, this was a farewell cruise. This cruise was usually Fridays and lasted 17yrs.

In 1991 Multi Toys Corp created a line of mermaid dolls. The line was simply called "Mermaids". The line consists of 11 1/2" dolls/fashions, 9 1/2" fashions, "Pretty Poseable Mermaids with Long Beautiful Hair"(dolls that are about 4 1/2"), and these "Pretty Little Mermaids with Long Beautiful Hair". Originally these "Pretty Little Mermaids..." came in plastic baggies. Click HERE and HERE to see front and back of the baggie.
None of the Multi Toys Mermaids have individual names printed on their packaging, but on the back card of the "Pretty Poseables" and 9 1/2" fashions there is a printed image of 12 mermaids. Each of these mermaids has a name near them. The 12 mermaids are the "Pretty Little Mermaids". This is most obvious when you look at the tops the mermaids are wearing.

We've been seeing a ton of ruby-throated hummingbird activity lately. Watch for these tiny, active birds zipping around and guarding food sources.
