The site originally housed My Sisters Restaurant, which opened on July 16th, 1953. This is Ruby Dixon. She is my Nan. This was taken during the hiatus between wedding ceremony and meal. You can see she is much happier after a box of cashews and an orange juice.
Prior to this she was 'kicking-off' due to a lack of food (sugar). "No, i am not having a nice time. I am uncomfortable. This is like no wedding I have ever been to."
She was on cheeky top form all day, even giving me a wink after a particularly sweet diss. The perfect diss-machine. As she said, no one can touch her because she's 80.
The cane is just for show. My sister busted her breaking into a little jog on the way to the toilet. She is not frail. She is powered by nicotine and belgian chocolates.
Ruby being very cool in her room.
Margo sent me this picture, but I believe it was taken by Ruby's mom - Kate.
Ruby's Redondo Beach closed on Sept 8, this was a farewell cruise. This cruise was usually Fridays and lasted 17yrs.

"The struggle continues...
May my past, my story inspire you.
The first steps toward change are never easy.
Keep your eyes on the Prize."

I can not think of a better "Ruby" for the treasure hunt in the 365/2021 - Expanding Horizons group. And I support the text on the open page of the book.

One last photo of that little charmer... Too bad he wouldn't sit in the opposite direction! In that last sunlight, it would've been a double wammy with topaz bib and ruby cap. Here we can only guess at those features, and be stunned by the rufous tail and copper back.
