Okay, we've removed the old windows. Now about installing the new ones...oh, they gave us the wrong instructions so we're going to leave it like this for now? Great.
Replacing it all with peel-n-stick. Yeah, that sucked. Liked the original solution better, but it is what it is.
The present Castle replaced an earlier structure at the beginning the 17th century. The improvement work was started by a younger son of Bess of Hardwick called Sir Charles Cavendish. (Hardwick Hall stands at the other end of the escarpment that Bolsover Castle stands on.)
The terrace range that now stands as a ruin was left to fall into disrepair in the 18th century. Bolsover passed into the Cavendish-Bentinck family. The Castle was not lived in properly by the family much after 1691. The Cavendish-Bentincks (Earls and Dukes of Portland) preferred to lavish their attentions on their principal Nottinghamshire seat of Welbeck Abbey. The Little Castle was last occupied by a tenant in the 1880's.

Replaceable derailleur hangers are engineered to break, to spare the derailleur and this one did in an S&S travel case. Can't imagine the forces within the case to do that, but break it did. Sheared right off. Discovered this back home from the Mobile Social Worldwide.

This is the inside of the building shown in the comment below. I drove in on Thursday morning to find glass by my parking space. A few minutes before my arrival a complete window frame had fallen out.
