On this May evening, one of CP's Heritage SD70ACUs made its way to the rear of an autorack originating from the Port of Portland, allowing for some decent late afternoon angles along the North Bank. The end of the train is seen crossing the bridge at Rock Cove on the outskirts of downtown Stevenson. This truss is currently in the process of being replaced.

Beaumont, Texas: Historical Marker:

The first county building constructed at this site was a jailhouse completed in 1838, two years after the organization of Jefferson County. Located on land acquired from Nancy Tevis, a pioneer settler of the area, it also housed county offices and courts. When the commissioners court outgrew the facility, sessions were held in private homes. The first courthouse here was completed in 1854. Built by John A. Beaumont, it was a two-story square structure surrounded by a six-foot picket fence. Baptist and Methodist congregations conducted Sunday services in the building and during the Civil War it was leased to D. T. Inglehart, a Confederate surgeon, for use as a hospital. A second courthouse was constructed in 1893, twelve years after the incorporation of Beaumont. Designed by E. T. Heiner, it was a three-story red brick building with white trim. Following the area oil boom of the 1920s it proved inadequate to meet the needs of the growing population and was replaced by the present brick courthouse in 1931. Designed by Fred Stone and A. Babin, the fourteen-story building features art deco styling in the use of sculpted ornamentation and marble interior work.

When I go to White Slough three miles from where I live, I never know what to expect...a given are Gulls and Mallards. Three weeks ago there were American Avocets in breeding plumage...this day the Avocets had been 'replaced' with hundreds of Western Sandpipers in their breeding plumage...once again, my favorite soft rock and very enjoyable shooting!

It's still Wednesday here so here you go! ~ HBW ~ Not much done here except some wacky toning :) (referring to the one below ... that I have later replaced) That's what happens when you are snowed in for weeks... I have been pretty busy with different tasks personal and business... just wanted to upload something in the meantime. No time to mess around with anything so I found something that looked half decent without much photoshopping.

Have a wonderful night or maybe even a day for some of you!

U713, taconite loads from Minntac are flying down highway 7. At this time in 2023 new cars to replace the steam era DM&IR hoppers were just a rumor. Straight air dash 9 rebuilds weren't on our radar at all. It wasn't long before the iron range would look very different.

This was from a great trip up north with Henry Jansen. I really miss when the range looked like this. I never made it up to shoot the searchlights and DMIR power on tac trains. But I am thankful I as able to photograph the dash 8s, EMDs and especially the Missabe ore cars.

This image isn't intended to decieve. It was taken at a site where the birds have been fed for the last 15 years or so. Their normal feeding trough is replaced with one made with transparent optically plano sides to allow photography. There are rubber covers over all exposed edges and black sealant is used so the birds can clearly see the edge of the trough. The gravel allows the birds to see the bottom. Its quite an incredible thing to witness almost too quick for the human eye to see. Interesting how they dive with their third eye lid closed and beak open then turn under water and power back to the surface. This is all done using natural light. It may not be the sharpest photo as the water softens things and the little air pocket trapped around the birds feathers looks a little strange but it was an incredible experience.

When Mother Nature offers us certain visual shows, time is running out to immortalize them. Here I was in the car and wondering what I was going to do. Take another path, go to the beach minicipale to capture this opening in a raging sky or enter the house. I chose the beach. It took me 15 minutes to get there. Finally on site, the time of a few clicks and it was over. The hole in the clouds was replaced by a downpour :-D

I was stunned to see such a big and well-maintained monastery at such a remote place, where it used to take at least four days of trek to reach even a few years back, with just a small village having hardly fifty households.

Yes, Lingshed monastery is one of the oldest remote monasteries in Zanskar valley. It was established in the 15th century around the same time when Kasrsha and Padum monstaries were also established in Zanskar, a region of Ladakh, which still lies cuf off from the mainland in winter due to unbearably low temperature,

The Stoosbahn replaced the older cable car in 2018.

It has been completely new built. The passenger cabins have a barrel form and level automatically to the horizon. So you will always stand vertical and it has not different angles as traditional cable cars have.

Additionally, the Stoosbahn is with 110 % the steepest cable car of the world.

The covered bridge was built in 1862 by a certain David I Wood, who used to charge teamsters to travel across the bridge. The bridge was built using wood from Mr. Woods's lumber mill in Sierra County, California. There is a plaque on the northern side of the bridge that commemorates this.

This bridge was built to replace an 1850 bridge that washed away in a storm. At 251 feet (229 feet after the end walls were removed) it is thought to be the longest single-span covered bridge in the United States. As with all such bridges, the cover serves mainly to keep the rain off the load-bearing structure, which would otherwise soon rot from the moisture. Some said covers also made the bridge look like a barn so horses wouldn't be frightened to cross, but this was not universally accepted by teamsters of the day.

This road in the late 1800s was part of the Virginia Turnpike, a link between Marysville and the Comstock Lode silver mines in Virginia City, Nevada. Wagon teams, horsemen, buggies and livestock were charged a toll to cross the bridge. The Turnpike ran 14 miles from Anthony House (submerged under Lake Wildwood) to North San Juan.

The main visitor center to the South Yuba River State Park lies just to the south of the bridge.

Frederiksborg Castle (Danish: Frederiksborg Slot) is a palatial complex in Hillerød, Denmark. It was built as a royal residence for King Christian IV of Denmark-Norway in the early 17th century, replacing an older castle acquired by Frederick II and becoming the largest Renaissance residence in Scandinavia. Situated on three islets in the Slotssøen (castle lake), it is adjoined by a large formal garden in the Baroque style.

After a serious fire in 1859, the castle was rebuilt on the basis of old plans and paintings. Thanks to public support and the brewer J. C. Jacobsen, the building and its apartments were fully restored by 1882 when it was reopened to the public as the Danish Museum of National History. Open throughout the year, the museum contains the largest collection of portrait paintings in Denmark. It also provides visitors with an opportunity to visit several of the castle's state rooms including the restored Valdemar Room and Great Hall as well as the Chapel and the Audience Chamber which were both largely spared by the fire and contain sumptuous decorations.

The semaphores were replaced a few months after this photo was taken, and Freightliner took over the ore trains, the upshot being that the best locos for the job were replaced by class 66/6 power.

Kashgar or Kashi (Uyghur: قەشقەر‎, ULY: Qeshqer, Chinese: 喀什 pinyin: Kāshí, Persian, Hindustani: کاشغر / कशगार) is an oasis city with approximately 350,000 residents in the western part of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China.

The city is located in the western extreme of China — within both the Tarim Basin and the Taklamakan Desert — where it experiences an extreme desert climate.

Kashgar’s Old City has been called the best-preserved example of a traditional Islamic city to be found anywhere in Central Asia, but it is now being razed by the Chinese government which plans to replace the old buildings with new.

This M.I.T sweatshirt is something I can date back to at least the age of 15. It is pretty battered and holey. It has all kind of stains, including one from a pretty bad nose bleed I had when I was in college.

I focused a lot of my energy as a young adult on getting into a really good college, but then changed mymind...

This is the descendant of a Harvard sweatshirt I had that belonged to a friend of mine who passed away. It was stolen from my workplace when I was 14, so I decided to replace it with M.I.T. I was probably watching a little bit too much Good Will Hunting at the time.

It's very comfy, and this challenge is a good excuse to wear it today.

St Edmund's in Southwold is a Grade I listed parish church and is considered to be one of Suffolk's finest. It lies under one continuous roof, and was built over about 60 years from the 1430s to the 1490s; it replaced a smaller 13th-century church that was destroyed by fire. The earlier church dated from the time when Southwold was a small fishing hamlet adjacent to the larger Reydon. By the 15th century Southwold was an important town in its own right, and the church was rebuilt to match its power and wealth.

Replaced after a few alterations.

Having spent as cold a bivouac as I can remember, a series of warming up exercises were necessary in order not to become totally ineffective at operating a camera. Star jumps, press ups, shadow boxing & other random rapid movements restored blood flow & saw off any pesky sheep intent on 'photo-bombing' Angle Tarn. Even the ravens were eyeing me suspiciously.
