Replacing the Jules Rimet trophy - Brazil won it outright having been the first team to win the competition three times - this is without doubt one of the most recognisable symbols of world sport
Built in 1862, this Classical Revival-style courthouse was designed by James R. Carrigan, and was inspired by the work of Sir Christopher Wren. The building replaced a previous courthouse on the same site, which was destroyed in a large fire that tore through the downtown area of Danville in 1860. Shortly after its completion, the Battle of Perryville took place nearby on October 8, 1862, with the courthouse being temporarily utilized as a field hospital, with other buildings around Perryville and Danville being utilized to care for the thousands of casualties and wounded soldiers, with the courthouse remaining in use as a hospital well into 1863. During the time, the county court was hosted in the C. W. Mitchell Building. Following its use as a hospital, the courthouse required extensive repairs, with these not being completed until 1875. Originally located in the middle of the block, the building on the corner parcel adjacent to the courthouse burned in the 1930s, and the land was subsequently donated by Emma Weisiger to the City of Danville and Boyle County, creating a large courthouse square originally known as Mid-town Park, and now known as Weisiger Memorial Park, after Emma Weisiger’s brother Malcom Weisiger. The park was further renovated in 1961, 1987, and 2017. The courthouse features a red brick exterior, hipped roof, large octagonal tower with brackets, a dome, a lantern, corinthian columns, clocks, louver openings, arched windows, and a weather vane on top, a tall front portico on the second floor of the front facade with corinthian columns and a front pediment, large two-over-two and nine-over-nine double-hung windows, with the windows on the side of the building featuring transoms, arched entry doors on the first floor of the portico structure separated by pilasters and featuring fanlight transoms, six-over-six double-hung windows on the first floor and rear annexes, and two rear additions made in the early 20th Century and late 20th Century, with the later addition being larger and featuring corinthian pilasters and a portico similar to the original courthouse, with corinthian columns. The courthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, and is a contributing structure in the Danville Commercial District Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

Built in 1964-1965, this International Style Modern office building has surprisingly little information available about it. The building replaced the historic Vilas mansion, home to several notable early and prominent citizens of Madison, and a favorite building of Frank Lloyd Wright. The demolition of the mansion and construction of this building catalyzed the creation of the historic preservation movement in Madison and the state of Wisconsin, as it was massively out of scale with the surrounding buildings and the loss of a historical landmark as significant as the Vilas House made many in the community realize the need to protect the city’s historic resources. The building features a glass curtain wall, seemingly inspired by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, sandwiched between a parapet and floor structure clad in metal panels with a trapezoid geometric motif at the top and bottom, which is seemingly inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright, a recessed first floor with Le Corbusier-inspired pilotis, or exposed columns, around the perimeter of the floor, framing storefronts, and clad in stone panels, a penthouse with an oversized cap, exposed columns, and stone panel cladding, a low-slope roof, and a large lawn to the side and rear, which conceals the building’s underground parking garage. The building, despite being a quite excellent example of mid-20th Century modern architecture, is a noncontributing structure in the Mansion Hill Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. The building’s architecture seems to have escaped notice by the local architectural historian and history groups despite being a quite well-designed International Style building.

This bridge replaced an earlier one of 1874, which was demolished in 1905 when the new one (Dare timber truss) was built by Walter Frank Oakes over the Williams River at Dungog (40 km N. of Raymond Terrace). The opening was witnessed by a large crowd, followed by a luncheon for about forty ladies and gentlemen, a picnic and games for the children and a race meeting in aid of the local hospital.
The composite truss span measures 91 ft (27.74 m), with 16 tons (14.26 t) of ironwork fabricated at Fitzroy Dock, Cockatoo Island, Sydney, and the eight timber beam spans measure 35 ft (10.67 m) each. The height above summer water level is 34 ft 4 in. (10.46 m), which is 4 ft (1.22 m) higher than the bridge it replaced. The width of the deck is 18 ft (5.49 m) between kerbs and the approaches absorbed over 4,000 tons (4,064.19 t) of sand and gravel. The early stages of its construction were supervised by E.O. Moriaty and the later stages by W. Thomas.

The font, which replaces a former marble one of 18th- or early 19th-century date, was presented to the church by Julia, Countess of Jersey, in about 1860. It is said to have come from the King's Chapel at Islip, but before the end of the 17th century it had passed into the possession of the Brown family of Kiddington, who believed that it was the font in which Edward the Confessor was baptized and had an inscription cut on the base to that effect. Its decoration is of 14th-century character, but it is possible that this has been cut on an older tub-shaped font.

Black-Crowned Night Heron, Flamingo Gardens, Florida
From Wikipedia:
The Black-crowned Night Heron, (Nycticorax nycticorax), commonly abbreviated to just Night Heron in Eurasia, is a medium-sized heron found throughout a large part of the world, except in the coldest regions and Australasia (where replaced by the closely related Rufous Night Heron, with which it has hybridized in the area of contact).
Adults are approximately 64 cm long and weigh 800 g. They have a black crown and back with the remainder of the body white or grey, red eyes, and short yellow legs. Young birds are brown, flecked with white and grey. These are short-necked and stout herons.
The breeding habitat is fresh and salt-water wetlands throughout much of the world. The subspecies N. n. hoactli breeds in North and South America from Canada as far south as northern Argentina and Chile, N. n. obscurus in southernmost South America, N. n. falklandicus in the Falkland Islands, and the nominate race N. n. nycticorax in Europe, Asia and Africa. Black-crowned Night Herons nest in colonies on platforms of sticks in a group of trees, or on the ground in protected locations such as islands or reedbeds. Three to eight eggs are laid.
This heron is migratory in the northermost part of its range, but otherwise resident (even in the cold Patagonia). The North American population winters in Mexico, the southern United States, Central America, and the West Indies, and the Old World birds winter in tropical Africa and southern Asia
