This scene was built and rendered using modo 401, a 3D modeling and animation software package.
It's my first modo 401 render...actually my first modo render period. The primary purpose of this image was to get familiar with the lighting and render settings as well as the GI and DOF features.

Well its not a photo. Its a render of a 3D model from a game called Live for Speed.
I have created it with Maxwell Render which is the closest render engine to photography till now. Hop you like the image.
simple (reduced) mesh of a brain hemisphere - derived with some image processing (MGH/freesurfer) from an MRI scan.
the 3d scene design and the materials are very simple (blender beginner!) with minimal lighting, a reflective surface and some compositing (to achieve the bokeh effect).
