this is the city plan of a neighborhhod on the outskirts of Beijing. We got the CAD file from the city and realized it was already 3D. Rendered it as-is.

90 Interlocking Irregular Pentagons 450 units
2-fold view.
During the development of 10 Nonagonal Prisms, I first rendered the prism sides with 1.0” width edges, which proved too wide for a compound with non-intersecting nonagonal faces. In order to make use of the interior edges from v.1, I reworked those edges as the innermost edges of a compound of 90 pentagons. The main design feature I wanted to include were 9-fold rotational whorls, and while the interior is on the tight side in its present form, the edge dihedral flattening is more attributable to the pocket angles of the locks in conjunction with the interior angles between adjacent edges than to genuinely being too tight. That said, the weight of the paper places a bit more stress on the exterior edges than I would prefer.
Note also that this is an extrinsic composition- all 90 pentagons have 3 of the five edges the same, but for the last two edges on the pentagons, 60 have one edge length, and 30 have another.

I got about 2 cups of snow-white tallow when all was said and done - not bad for almost zero effort on a lazy Sunday!

Failed bike-jack attempt. Bike is safe, but the lock had to be replaced.
The owner of this lock used it to secure his bike to a rack in his backyard. A thief tried to leverage it open, but did not succeed. The thief did manage to bend the shackle to the point that opening it was extremely difficult, so the owner came to the shop to pick up a replacement.
I'm seeing this sort of thing more and more frequently. Bike thieves are getting wiser...and more daring.
The locked bike was a beat-up SS steel MTB with lots of miles and no high-end parts. The lock is a Kryptonite Kryptolok Series 2 Standard.
