I finally got the reflection shot I was looking for this morning. I can't get enough of these gorgeous birds.
A nice reflection shot, I've taken many of these as the still waters in Kin and here at Sankaku-Ike work just great for these photos.
Bierstadt Lake, Rocky Mountain National Park. I got up here a little later in the morning (after being at Bear Lake for sunrise), so I was pleased to find the water was still so calm. I love to get reflection shots like this when I'm up at mountain lakes.

This is a crazy story about how this absolutely perfect image happened. I have been planning on working in Northern California for approx 3 weeks. I had two specific pictures in mind, the first was a star field shot with Mt. Shasta in the back and the second was a reflection shot. I had been cloudy and rainy and snowing the 3 days I was up there and thought I would never be able to get this shot. Saturday morning I was up at 4am to drive the 45 min to get to Shasta City to find my spot to get my shot. The sky was clear and I was excited that I might be able to actually get a shot. As I left highway 5 I started to run into very thick low lying fog! I could not believe that I was going to get fogged out of my shot! I drove around the lake the roads were solid ice and I could not see a thing so I tried to drive up out of the fog to at least get some shots of the mountain without the reflections. I was able to finally set up and get some great shots. As I drove back down the hill I kept looking at the lake and saw that the fog had completely lifted. I finally settled on this shot and could not believe how perfect the water was. I have several shots from her but I took this panorama with land on each side to prove that this was not a photoshop trick just taking an image and mirroring it and then flipping it. The lake was this still! After I got home I thought I should have taken a picture with a rock thrown in the middle to show the perfect round ripples, but this literally would have ruined the entire lake and on second thought I'm glad I didn't. Lessons learned never give up, I got some great shots from the other location that I wouldn't have gotten if the fog wasn't there, and don't stop looking or you might just miss one of the most magnificent images you have ever seen.

I've been trying to get a reflection shot for a while. These little birds don't usually co-operate because they are always moving and they tend to get completely in the water making my reflection shot a bit difficult.
The shallow waters of Santiago Bay at lowtide offers good reflection shots for landscape subjects such as this sunrise by the beach.

I like reflection shots. Can't help it. This was taken by shooting at the window of a cabin at the YMCA camp. You can see some of the furniture through the window, and the lake and trees reflected along with me.
I'm not sure why everything is doubled. I'm guessing that there are two panes of glass in the window. I like the doubling.
No inspiration today. Left work on the early side because the heat was broken and it was so incredibly cold--and I went to the gym and ran! Got all toasty and then went grocery shopping and came home to work. Like always.
This reflection shot was taken in the Chicago Basin, near Durango Colorado on a 3 day backpacking trip. The basin is located in the heart of the pristine Weminuche Wilderness Area.

Yes, sorry, another window reflection shot. I like them!
Another hot summer's day today (so many of them lately!) A bunch of us from work went over to Bunhill Fields at lunchtime for a 'picnic' (basically we just each took our own lunch, but we sat on blankets together, so that made it a picnic, right?), which was lovely.
Had a very hot train ride home, thanks to Southeastern reducing my usually-ten-carriage train to just five carriages. It was crammed and hot and sweaty!
This was an experiment using a high contrast edit on a reflection shot. I learned that high contrast makes for shiny chrome.
