Our extended warm fall days are allowing for more chances at reflection shots. The leaves are mostly gone, but the water picks up the golden-brown tones of the rushes.
Grandin Pond. St. Albert, Alberta.
I thought I would end this week with my own personal favourite from the series of reflection shot!
The top half is the original and the rest is obviously photoshopped but I feel that this is more the direction that I am heading for, making my photography more of an art form than just a straightforward image, some of you may not care for this type of vision but please let me know what you think?
Heard the speeding boat coming up the river as I was taking captures. So worked on those reflections shots as I listened for the waves to start coming in ... then set up for some wave action captures there at low tide.
Another reflection shot from our pond. What I loved about this day was I was only up at the pond about a half an hour but the clouds kept moving so the light and the shadow kept changing and the reflection on the water was so beautiful.
Hardly any wind and then you get the nice reflections.Shot with the Nikon D2H and the Nikon 70-300mm vr.

Is a reflection real?
I like the way this type of reflections shot makes one think about the way the world works.
Especially when it ripples?
Or am I losing my marbles?
Or have I just looked at this too long?
Kelly Lake is a beautiful lake near Clinton BC. I hoped I could get some nice reflection shots here but the bright sun made it challenging to not get the boring blue sky in the shot. Here is my attempt at that. Video below.. Kris.
Especially when I can't work out myself the reflections of the promenade and beach from the distant view through the opposite windows, or even whether there are kittens on cushions or abandoned outside....I would draw a line at having a bin on a bed tbh :)
Last one from our trip to the Lake District for now, I have loads more but I feel like mixing things up a bit for the rest of the week.
No trip to the lakes is complete without a reflection shot, and as we had failed to get any reflections at Buttermere we stopped at Rydal Water instead. We hadn't planned to go here, but as we were driving past we saw the lake was flat as a pancake so made a quick pit stop.
The Autumn colours were just starting to come out and it really did look beautiful. We had about an hour here, but the wind soon picked up and the water started getting a bit choppy so we headed off to the pub for some lunch.

I was a lonesome cowboy
Lonesome as I could be
You came along, changed my life
And fixed what was broken in me
I was a lonesome cowboy
I didn't have a friend
Now I got friends comin' out of my ears
I'll never be lonesome again
You can't be happy when you're all by yourself
Go on, tell me I'm wrong (you're wrong)
When someone takes you down from the shelf
And plays with you some, it's wonderful (wonderful)
From the film Toystory....which I watched at the cinema with my grandson Leo just prior to Covid.
The lady reflected was rushing along the street in St Ives just as I was taking this reflections shot, now if that was woody in the the window he would have rushed to her aid in a heartbeat i'm sure :))
A bit of fun with one of my reflections shots along the River Lee in Cork, Ireland. These are the buildings along Morrison's Quay - I really like how the reflections worked out this day with just enough of a breeze to make for a small amount of distortion. Happy Sliders Sunday! HSS!
Sun was getting low as i passed an agricultural reservoir on my way home. Pulled over ran up the hill and took this. Nothing around for any foreground so a quick reflection shot my only choice
Mt Rainier National Park, Washington. It is always a gamble what kind of weather you'll find on Mt Rainier. We hit the jackpot. It was a full moon so no Milky Way shots but what a night. Clouds were scarce, the moon was spectacular and there was no wind which made for a wonderful reflection shot on Reflection Lakes. This vantage point of Mt Rainier is one of the parks most iconic and perhaps most photographed view. This was my first night shot from here and was taken just before 11pm.
Visited the Winter Wonderland in Cardiff with our local photography group. Best I got was a reflection shot of the Ferris wheel.

Reflections. Shot with my favorite lens. 10-18mm Canon. A lake in Smaland Sweden, near my parents house.
Taken over my favourite place the Crayford marshes what it was flooded! This will be my last one of this series of reflection shots, it was a morning that I will never forget and it will probably never be equaled, I hope you all enjoyed them as much as I witnessed it happening in front of my eyes and recording the events!
Another of this serires of reflection shots, it was a morning that I will never forget and it will probably never be equalled, I hope you all enjoyed them as much as I witnessed it happening in front of my eyes and recording the events!
Not 100% sure what these pretty pink flowers are, possibly annual lavatera or hollyhock? Taken today at our local RHS Gardens' annual flower show. So many pretty flowers but unfortunately the wind was pretty strong which was a bit frustrating photographically speaking!
Hope everyone has had a good weekend and thanks for all the kind comments on yesterday's flipped reflection shot :)
This is taken from the lookout pub at Ingoldmells and the view of the beach is reflected in the window behind the other window with the seats and table in front. We usually enjoy a drink looking out at the sea whilst sitting in the relative warmth. This young lady repeatedly walked slowly through what is called the conservatory where we sit out of the way with our dogs. There is a door either end. Once this little one reached that outside door she always flung it back wide and it had no spring to shut itself so we had to get up to shut it over and over again. How cute NOT..
We never saw a parent so they were possibly sitting outside.
An opportunity to take a street candid I suppose :)
Now back in the day..........
Nice reflection shot I captured last year while walking around the barbican area in Plymouth. This place is a stones throw from where the pilgrim fathers set off for America.
Wine Windows barrels of wine in this bistro pub create an interesting focal point, shot through the window so some reflections, shot in North Carolina.
I thought I can't post 2 reflection shots back to back, but then I realized I can do what I want 😀. So that's become my theme of the week - reflections.
I think I've finally work out the settings for this shot. I was lucky to have a very still commuter to test out the shot
Simple reflection shot, I really like the light in this image

* The Chateau la Bussiere to give it its formal name is found in the Loiret Department of central France. It looks quite splendid from the outside but sadly the interior is a little dilapidated. The reason for visiting the Chateau was is its excellent garden, which is very formal but a delight.
The castle was built in the twelfth century. Regularly expanded, it was transformed to the sixteenth century to a manor house .The du Tillet family owned the castle for three centuries until the French Revolution. In the eighteenth century the lake was developed and became a popular place to fish hence its other name le Château des Pêcheurs. It’s certainly a fine place to take reflection shots.
THANKS FOR YOUR VISIT AND FOR TAKING THE TIME TO WRITE A COMMENT IT’S MUCH APPRECIATED AND SO MUCH MORE INTRESTING THAN JUST GIVING A FAVE
Another full reflection shot from that magical morning alone the river Cray in Bexley, the reflections are just stunning!!
I was lucky to get a fairly clean shot of this female foraging in the wet grasslands that was dense with this lush green grass everywhere. She was too close to get a complete reflection shot.
it was an awesome morning for reflection shots at the Chicago Botanic Gardens yesterday...pls. View On Black
It would be remiss of me to have a week of taking reflection shots and not include a puddle reflection. The English weather obliged today and so I quickly went out and snapped a shot!
We were so fortunate to be in one of our favorite places in the world, Merritt island, Florida on a perfect early morning with birds all around us. The conditions here could not have been better for a reflection shot and this Great Blue Heron provided a perfect subject to photograph in these conditions:)
In November 2021 I was invited to take photos of a big rocket launch by a space startup in the Mojave Desert in California. I took the opportunity to travel that region. On Sunday I drove up north on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Near Bishop is a small Alpine lake called North Lake. The trees already lost the leaves at this time of the year, so no fall colors. There was no wind, so the lake was very calm, perfect for a reflection shot.
I processed a balanced, a paintery, and a photographic HDR photo from three RAW exposures, blended them selectively, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, and desaturated the image. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

We have been making the most of the late summer weather down in the S Hams which has been ideal for reflection shots as the wind has been quite light. This is the view from Noss Mayo across to Newton Ferrers.

Torquay at the beginning of August 2019. I went back to Torquay harbour a couple of times on my recent trip to Devon, hoping the wind would die down enough to get a reflection shot. The sun was shining as well so I was doubly rewarded.
This morning I ventured out with Darren Blight Photography for sunrise at Plymouth Barbican. Setting my alarm for 5am I crawled out of bed and made the short drive into town.
It's not very often I venture out in the city for any photography, but it looked like the perfect morning for some reflection shots and we did get a nice bit of colour in the sky just before sunrise.
This is the first in a series of shots from this morning, I've got a fair few that I actually like!!
