A walk through Liverpool city centre and some street photography on our way to our anniversary meal on 7 January 2025.
CN 3023, CN’s EJ&E heritage unit heads north through Duplainville leading a manifest train back in the summer of 2024. A friend and I were driving somewhere else and this train was nearby so we decided to stop and see it go by. This puddle was conveniently placed so we could get the reflection shot there.
I clearly need to buy myself at least one silver shiny Christmas ornament, because I've wanted to take a shot like this since I saw only 85 billion other people on flickr post shots like this. I am nothing if not a sheep when it comes to really fun (albeit cliched by now) photos, especially at the holidays. This one is hanging on Amy and Garrison's tree, and I took this in the middle of a really fun day hanging out with the two of them and their ridiculously adorable three month old, Emily.
And! It's also a shot for Scavenger Hunt 101, #98, your favorite article of clothing. That snowflake sweater is not only the coziest thing I own right now, but it is also presentable enough to wear to work and hanging out with friends, and I always feel put together when I wear it. Since I've been putting this Scavenger Hunt item off simply because I was having trouble answering the question of what *is* my favorite article of clothing, this will work AND be festive at the same time!
In the hope of getting a reflection shot, three photographers stand in the cold waters of Loch Linnhe,at Corpach, awaiting the The Jacobite steam train hauled by K1 No.62005.
I truly enjoy doing reflection shots! It's fun finding the right position & angle, so that what is reflected combines well with what is behind the window--a kind of collage without the cutting and pasting. I was lucky in that it was late afternoon; had it been morning or early afternoon, there would have been too much light reflecting onto the window and the mannequin's face might have been hard to see.
Also, the fact that the mannequin is wearing a dark hat facilitated the task, as it proved a good background for the white-framed windows. And the fact that the mannequin is vintage, rather than the new-fangled, nearly-faceless modern variety adds to the fun: she does rather look like an actual person!

I stopped off at Blue Heron on the way from Taylor while Eddie drove on into Braley. I wanted to look at the Blue Heron pond to see if the reflection shot would work. This old shed was pretty darn shady as I walked by and caught me eye next. The green crept up on it since I last walked by. Braley always serves up something new especially at different spans of the day. The green shade caught my eye on the way over to where I knew Eddie would be standing in the barn admiring the red tile silo holding down the same dirt he usually does. Important dirt I suppose. I'd better not step in it or the pigeon doo-doo mixed in. Breathe carefully around the pigeon dirt... or Eddie for that matter! The barn remains posted... as if that mattered. Ta-ta shed and off to see if Eddie might have moved... what are the odds? Nope! Same Eddie - same dirt. Oh well cheat at cards \ poaching other images (like eggs) is all fair game!
I found Eddie, imagine where? Is this red tile silo shot a tribute to Eddie? I don't think that this critter is going to be able to make a getaway. Plum tree or Eddie! Either way here it is and as wide as I can crank the mid-range 24-70 zoom. It looks like the ol' plum tree is plumb eaten up by bugs. Eddie keeps threatening to prune it down pretty good! ...And do prunes come come from plums? Eddie surely knows, considering the resemblance to the former. Damn good thing that I retrieved the tripod yesterday!
Question? Would Eddie kill me is I posted a couple more? Probably. He seems to be getting a tad testy lately.
View from the top of the hill in the Rydal Water reflection shot I posted earlier. The main body of water is Rydal and the section higher up on the left in Grasmere.
Took this reflection shot while we were sitting in -ViDa-'s car...
Try to guess which shopping-center this was =P ?
Another reflection shot, This girl walked right into the frame and became part of the back of this carved mask.
No major events planned in Venice on this day so I spent the day wandering around the Piazza di San Marco. Great people watching and a lot of cool costumes. What a great experience!
I took these photos on the 4th day of the 2011 Carnevale, Wednesday, 2 March 2011.
Just a beach reflection shot, taken at sunset. White balance and saturation tweaked in CS5. 3 Shot HDR from 1 Raw file. Just having a bit of a play to get to grips with photoshop really.
I took this a couple of month back, while I was treking along Berrow beach in search of the SS Nornen shipwreck.
I'll get back there sometime soon to try again for the shot I was after.
car window reflection shot from our January weekend in Vegas. everyone always says that i look serious, skeptical or wear an intimidating expression but here i am on vacation with coffee, up and out early, taking photos, couldn't have been happier so this is my normal, baseline happy look. One curious (bizarre) thing about me is that I like taking mirror and reflection shots, even of myself, but I am dreadfully apprehensive about putting the camera on a tripod and taking an SP straight into the lens.
Grattan Gardens - Prahran
Reflection shot of a tree in the Grattan Gardens with the windows reflect the form of the tree as well as the cloudy blue sky. The large f/5.6 aperture keeps the top of the tree in focus while the lower sections are slightly out of focus. (DOF)
I took this reflection shot of wife as she lounged on Tom Sawyer Island in the Magic Kingdom. A beautiful day with a blue sky, the Lily Belle and nothing but relaxation ahead of us.
Stoneman's Bridge in Yosemite Village reflected beautfully in the slowly flowing Merced River and allowed for some interesting reflection shots.
Went out to the Sterling Renaissance Festival today. Spent way too much money on stuff. But most of it is elemental representations for my alter :-) Also purchased were these hair sticks. And I found a new way to do my hair for real life, that will also work for reenacting :-D So I'll have to practice it. A LOT!
Reflection shot from the Georgetown car and plane show weekend before last...

There were a few photographers at the Cannon beach intent on getting a nice reflection shot of the Haystack rock. The photographers themselves made wonderful subjects, what with the typical pose and an amazing reflection in the watered shiny sand.
The chrome lights above the drivers cab made for an excellent reflection shot of the 3001 tram's older sister.
Happy 2011! And thus begins my 365 journey.
I usually really dislike camera-in-the-mirror-reflection shots, but this seemed like a nice introduction to me and my picture making partner in crime. She hasn't been named yet. I was thinking Lucille? Or maybe Lucy?

Normally any eye retina reflection shot means it's destined for the bin. However, I found this little guy watching me one evening as I set up for a full moon shot in my yard. This image is no prize winner, but hopefully it has enough charm to the viewer to be acceptable.
Apologies for reflections, shot taken through side window with my camera phone while he was looking at me lost. Lucky didn't eat my wife's favourite rose....
