Went out to the Sterling Renaissance Festival today. Spent way too much money on stuff. But most of it is elemental representations for my alter :-) Also purchased were these hair sticks. And I found a new way to do my hair for real life, that will also work for reenacting :-D So I'll have to practice it. A LOT!
This was taken in response to a Rolling Get Pushed Challenge by green-dinosaur (www.flickr.com/photos/green-dinosaur/):
"Your challenge is to take a photograph where the focus is on a reflection. It could be in water, in a mirror, in a glass, a bottle, a shop window, your choice. The aim is to make the reflection the most important part of the photograph."
I was beginning to get worried about finding a great reflection shot and then today
while I was walking down this corridor with my family I was completely distracted by all of the crisp reflections on the black marble floor. I wasn't sure if I was even allowed to take pictures in the building, so I quickly snapped a few on my iPhone & hoped I wouldn't get in any trouble. Luckily, no one except my family even noticed:-) If I look at this too long, I start to get dizzy, but I am really please with the result.
Groynes on the beach at Spurn Point. The ebbing tide has left score marks in the sand that draw the eye towards the decaying timbers that jut starkly from pools that carry their reflections. Shot on Ilford FP4 using the Harman Titan 4x5 pinhole camera.
Apologies for reflections, shot taken through side window with my camera phone while he was looking at me lost. Lucky didn't eat my wife's favourite rose....
Happy 2011! And thus begins my 365 journey.
I usually really dislike camera-in-the-mirror-reflection shots, but this seemed like a nice introduction to me and my picture making partner in crime. She hasn't been named yet. I was thinking Lucille? Or maybe Lucy?
A walk through Liverpool city centre and some street photography on our way to our anniversary meal on 7 January 2025.
Normally any eye retina reflection shot means it's destined for the bin. However, I found this little guy watching me one evening as I set up for a full moon shot in my yard. This image is no prize winner, but hopefully it has enough charm to the viewer to be acceptable.
I wasn't going to go with Mama but got talked into it. I certainly
wish I could say that I arranged the light and color but was lucky.
Very little post on this one again but did some in PS-CS2..I realize that there are more focused shots out there but just liked this one again due to the very unique reflections.
Shot about 6:45pm here in the central Valley Cal. Kind of
interesting, not too far from Mom was a female Peacock with
3 Baby peachicks about the same size as these ducklings.. Dad was strutting all over with tail fanned. Not sure if he was just sooo proud or trying to distract.
More White balance fun, gives a good contrast of blue to orange… Just a neat effect, and I love water reflection shots anyway

An ACe leads coal loads through Bemidji, passing over the Mississippi River.
I took advantage of the mostly sunny conditions (even though I got some of the thicker thin clouds to ruin this shot) and the fact the temperature was above zero for the first time in several days at a balmy 6 degrees.
A few weeks ago this would have been a killer reflection shot, but the bitter cold temperatures have iced over most of the Mighty Miss between Lake Irving and Lake Bemidji. This is the first railroad bridge over the Mississippi after starting at Lake Itasca a couple dozen miles to the southwest of here.
I took these photos on 5 February 2013 - there were no planned events for this day; the photos were mainly costumed characters hanging out near the Doges Palace, the Piazza di San Marco, and the Gondola Landing - great places to people watch!
I can't decide between black & white or colour. I'm a huge fan of black & white ... and yet...
Anyway, this was inspired by a mix of the reflection shot of Arty's earlier on and a previous mirror shot I did in a steamy bathroom.
It sums up how I feel about myself really - never quite happy with what I see yet all things considered not a lot to moan about.
Plus - I actually quite like how this one turned out.
Now - you tell me - black & white or colour?
Reflection shot. I personally do not like my scenery, but we are not always going to our backgrounds so we have to do the best we can!
Hocking Valley Scenic Railway No.3 with reflection shot and EBT No. 6 whistle during the march 30th 2025 steam special.

Unedited puddle reflection shot of my bike trip. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing :)
Last Thursday I went on a bike trip to Germany again, together with the lovely Miss A. We biked 180 kilometers, from Amsterdam to Enschede, in one day, and then had to spend the night in a crappy hotel because there were no trains anymore going to our final destination. The next day we biked the last 75 kilometers and had a fun weekend, there was a big festival going on and we met lots of nice people. Monday we came back home to the best city in the world, sadly we had to travel mostly by train because there was a major thunderstorm hovering above the Netherlands. The trip was great anyway and we'll go again soon I hope :)
I've made some movies of the road trip too, watch them on my YouTube channel, thank you :)
'1A78' the 06:45 from Penzance to Paddington leans through the curve adjacent to Crofton Pumping Station on the K&A Canal. An idylic summer scene. 43196 leads with 43024 somewhere in the rear.A rather nice reflection shot was nearly achieved but a light occasional breeze made sure it wasn't quite possible.----26 august 2016----

Reflection.
Shot in the Burbage Valley, Peak District, UK.
Shot with a Nikon D300 and 18-105mm lens.
This is a lucky reflection shot from a moving car.
My question is: where am I in the pic?
I seem to have accidentally achieved one of those magic angles where the photographer is in the blind spot of a reflection capture by tilting the camera lens a certain way; something like the Dutch Angle.
A 'dutch angle' is achieved by tilting the camera off to the side so that the shot is composed with the horizon at an angle to the bottom of the frame.
Unedited puddle reflection shot of the 'ABC Treehouse' in Amsterdam last week Saturday. Taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop :)
Today, Saturday, I will be at the 'ABC Treehouse' in the Voetboogstraat 11 again as the Artist in Residency for the 'MultiCulti' exhibition, together with the lovely Miss Monyart. We'll be there from 1-6PM, free entry, free coffee, and today the Amsterdam Flickr Meeting group will come and visit as well, I thought they'd come by last Saturday, but only because I'm an Idiot who never properly digests the information supplied to him, lol :D
Hope to see you there, the sun is breaking through the rain clouds as I write this and I keep my fingers crossed that it's gonna be another beautiful day in the best city in the world, that I get to spend with you, you and you :))

Mirror images of the Royal Albert Dock seen due to reflections in the very still dock waters. Shots taken around the Pier Head during the latest visit of the cruise ship to the city of Liverpool.
Night and the rain allowed me to get this reflections shot outside the Hilton hotel in Liverpool. I was in Liverpool for the BSDHT conference where I was talking. Always a nice place to visit.
Approaching Dumbleyung from Wagin. Just missed that reflection shot by another 10mm or so drop of rain!
eunice took the picture, I cropped and zoomed this section a bit. I like our positions and the look in this picture.
Following on from yesterday's reflection shot, here's another from inside the Bishop's Palace in Wells. There's a 'dressing up' box and rail where you can dress up as a Bishop and other characters.
And before anyone says it, no i'm not in fancy dress! :-)
I was trying to do this awesome self portrait through this 3 way mirror at the Aquarium when this random guy walked in on the shot!
taken during an aperture academy workshop with stephen oaches and brian rueb.
after a spectacular reflection shot of half dome nearly ruined by sensor dust (and hence will be buried in the archives), we went to lower cascade falls towards the end of day two.
i was able to climb near to the top to see the main lower cascade falls, but the better compositions were in the small creeks near the parking lot.
nikon d300
-24-70mm f/2.8 lens with circular polarizer used to reduce glare
-aperture priority at f/8 gives 0.6 seconds
-singh-ray 3-stop nd filter that i borrowed from stephen
-a pretty scratched up conkin 2-stop nd soft grad filter that i borrowed from brian placed on the right to even out the light
-minimal editing in LR2.5
Taking a reflection shot in a window in NYC with Slightly Amazing Grace and her husband Marty.
Fabulous meeting them both. Such good people.
We had a lovely day all over Manhattan and on the Hudson river :)
Thanks again you guys.
It was wonderful meeting you both.

First wear of these today... Found a nice big shallow puddle to try out a reflection shot
Yes, this is a very "busy" reflection shot...different from others I've done in that it was taken from indoors, rather than outdoors.
I was waiting for my order to be prepared & packed in an *extremely* small neighborhood take-out restaurant and decided to take a photo of the reflection in the door. You can see me at the right, with a blue hat, holding my camera. In the center are two customers having a quick bite at the counter (only 3 stools--the only seating!). To the left, behind the counter is the woman who serves and/or packages the food, but she is wearing a black hat and sweater; her sleveless white apron and is barely visible. There's so little light in the place, it's really a challenge to photograph!
A bit of the street beyond the door is visible as well, shadowy buildings and cars...
Washington Heights, Upper Manhattan
New York City, USA
UPDATE 2015: This little restaurant no longer exists; it survived a change in management/ownership, but closed a few years later.
A fairly straightforward planetarium reflection shot enlivened by a little lens flare. Note the pentagonal shape, reflecting the cheap five-bladed aperture iris on the 35ES.
