Same general area as the previous reflection shot but from a different side. They have a lot of mirrors there so you can pick and choose your background. I look a little stressed because it is pretty hard to frame correctly the subject without looking in the view finder, get the correct focus and work in the manual metering mode all at once! As Steve-SF pointed out (Thanks, Steve!) this is Les Halles.
Les Halles is named for the large central wholesale marketplace, which was demolished in 1971, to be replaced with an underground modern shopping center, the Forum des Halles. The center area is below street level, like a pit and contains sculpture, fountains, and mosaics. Unable to compete in the new market economy and in need of massive repairs, the colorful ambience once associated with the bustling area of merchant stalls disappeared in 1971, when Les Halles was dismantled; the wholesale market was relocated to the suburbs.
Behind me is the round building of La Bourse du Commerce. The French Commodities Exchange is a round building built in the 18th century, and later modified in the 19th. The site however has been occupied for the last 800 years. Called the Hôtel de Nesle, during the 13th century, then it became the Hôtel de Bohème, then Hôtel de Orléans. The mother of St. Louis, Blanche de Castille, died in the Hôtel de Nesle in 1252. Later, Louis XII lost the building to his chamberlain in a cribbage game. He in turn converted it to a convent for wayward women. In 1572, Catherine de Medici moved the convent out, and had Delorme and Bullant construct the Hôtel de la Reine, later called the Hôtel de Savoy. The present rotunda built in 1889 replaced a wheat market build during Louis XVI's reign.
Another wet spring in southern Minnesota means ample opportunity for reflection shots. The Rochester local passes by one of the many waterlogged ditches along the Waseca Sub mainline as it races the setting sun to the west. The hoppers on the head end are empty sunflower seed loads from Meriden while the barely visible coil car and flat are empties from McNeilus Steel in Dodge Center. The empty centerbeam was picked up from Tamarack after a load of gypsum board was unloaded.
A walk through Liverpool city centre and some street photography on our way to our anniversary meal on 7 January 2025.
Yeah, still stuck in Madison. Not a bad thing actually. Madison is the best small city in the US. So practical and beautiful yet dynamic, cultural and exciting. What is interesting is that this time next year I could be anywhere. Anywhere. I really have absolutely no clue at this point. The only this I know is that it will not be Madison. Sad, but I've been here long enough (it will be 8.5 years).
...actually come to think of it, the ice will probably freeze soon (so cold right now). Maybe I can get some better skyline reflection shots. Problem is its been snowing too...
Self-portrait in the mirror + photoshop mirror reflection :) Shot with Canon 350 and Industar 50-2 3.5 lens at f3.5
This is a place I've always wanted to go to and I finally made it in July 2004. I had a great there - just wish I brought better filters with me for the reflection shots.
Maroon Belle Peaks are located not too far from Aspen, Colorado.
Been wanting to get a reflection shot like with a chrome DC-3 for years. My opportunity came when this 81 year old American Airlines DC-3 came to Purdue for a quick visit. NC17334.
I was going to do a reflection shot of myself along with the gas cap theme we're doing in We’re Here!, but it started sprinkling and well, my hair.
(looking at this now, I see my hand in the lower right corner holding my phone, but still, let's ignore that and bask in what is clearly a truck that needs a bath).
Happy Pitchers and Catchers Report to Spring Training Day!!!!! It's the first sign that spring is truly almost here, and the end of the long, miserable off season. (Yet another off season that was miserable more because of the bad taste the previous season left in my mouth, rather than the simple fact that there's no baseball to watch for months and months.) Baseball is (sort of, almost, not really) back. And that means I am one happy girl. Just don't tell Dan I'm celebrating again this year, because he thinks spring training doesn't count. But he's a Yankees fan, so we don't listen to him ANYWAY.
This is an annual shot for me, because I can't resist dusting off Mets gear. And it's also become an impromptu "hey how much has my hair changed in a year?" shot. I took this same shot in 2008 and again in 2009.
Another view of Clarence Dock in Leeds from last week. About a minute after getting a good calm reflection shot the clouds rolled in and the wind picked up.
A cropped version of the reflection shot of D2853 at Scunthorpe steel works, taken from an AFRPS tour train on 08/06/08.
One more reflection shot from the Central Park Pond. I stopped using polarizing filters a while back, but I think a polarizer would have helped this shot.
More photos from Central Park are in my set

My First night shot and first reflection shot.
One of the courtyards of Medersa Ben Youssef. A Medersa is a place where students would have studied the Koran... in this case around 450 years ago.
With all the stunning carved plaster, elaborate tiles and arches and this pool, this particular courtyard was packed with photo opportunities... unfortunately it was alsopacked with tourists hence the reflection shot.

I used a polarizing filter here to reduce the appearance of reflections revealing the bones behind. I really like how this reflection shot came out.

Could have been a good reflection shot if the water was not dripping from the trees in the background.

The fall killed the remaining vegetation but no ice had formed on the ponds yet. The Mallards were busy churning the water while looking for succulent underwater plants. The breezes were just enough to create light motion on the water augmenting broken reflections. I needed to get out from behind this monitor. I have less tolerance for sitting on bright fall days. Before that, we still graced by 80 degree days but we were breaking on that day. I needed to wring more days from that autumn. Well, the scientists said last September was the warmest on record, world wide: we have already arrived at the forecast climate change. Considering that a Fox Media was rated at being 10% right, 60% wrong and the rest iffy they may be all wet on their forecasts. Kind of like Florida in the near future. Let's hope their believers get whacked first! Here at Golden Ponds, the foliage was already past, not so at McIntosh Lake. I bet there were still water sports over at McIntosh Lake by Dawson Park.
I usually look to see what the sky is doing and if I can manage. I found a great sky reflected in the pond that afternoon. No sky today. These geese decided to churn through some of my reflection shots just after I set up the monopod and camera to shoot the water reflections. I love the saturations of the fall foliage and I have not changed them in this shot. This shot screams autumn is again a season of peace in the St.Vrain Valley. Imagine whirled peas!
its a bit of a dreary colorless day so going with one of my blurple and white reflection shots here in the city, lets hope the sun comes back soon :)
I seem to be doing a lot of these reflection shots of late.
Halfway up the Staircase Spur, Mt Bogong, Alpine National Park.
Single shot. One of my favorite reflections shots. Everything just lined up nice. And those images inside are great. One of my favorite styles, with one of my favorite subjects.
Faster, faster, faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death… – Hunter Thompson
Ooh, so many interesting curves and reflections. Shot with a bounce flash off the wall behind the camera (A poor man's softbox.) and a mid-range aperture to capture most of the iconic logo.
PS: I am not in anyway affiliated with the Coca-Cola company. I just liked the bottle.
Tonight, a beautiful full moon rose over the city of San Francisco. The Marin Highlands were filled with us photographers trying to capture this beautiful event. This is one of the HDRs I shot and assembled.
A series of reflection shots taken in the La Defense business district of Paris. All 3 shots were taken using the same reflective globe, which shows the variety of buildings within the surrounding area.

The wind had started to get up a bit and totally ruined any chance of a nice reflection shot.

It’s that Airstream caravan again, in Whitecross Place. Always a good opportunity for a reflection shot… More info. Ref: D1101-122
