Was out looking for some reflection shots after a storm.

Another fairly chilled morning - mostly sorting stuff out on the laptop. After lunch, while Tim was replacing the brake caliper on his bike, I took mine out for a wet and windy ride over to Greenwich Park. Spotted this puddle on the way into the park and thought it could work for a nice reflection shot with the daffodils behind - by the time I'd come back from the viewpoint (about 2 minutes later), the wind had got up and the rain was falling - and there was no hope of a pretty reflection. So here's a ripply reflection shot instead.

Cleaned the kitchen this afternoon, then had a play on the PS4. Dinner, Antiques Roadshow, then Top Gear. Sunday done.

Unedited puddle reflection shot of Dutch Football supporters Sunday in Amsterdam. Taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop :)

Yesterday the Dutch team lost 1:0 against Spain in the final match of the 2010 FIFA World Cup...

It seemed for a while as if the Dutch team, supported by all the orange people, would beat Spain, but thanks to an incorrect offside decision, Spain won and we all went home sad...see you in the Euro 2012 Spain, haha ;-D

Thank you all for your marvelous support throughout the tournament, its been 4 fun weeks, lets do that again soon :)

I've also made tons of movies of the final match in Amsterdam, watch them on my YouTube page :)

Bridge 23 later in the day and the Sun broke through the clouds for a few minutes and made for a nice reflection shot.

Shropshire Union Canal, Middlewich Branch.

The sun kept going in and out during the sunset in Yosemite. I really wanted a reflection shot but the water was running too fast. This is the last sun of the day.

And another reflection shot....seems to be a running theme of late!!

Saw this fly in whilst i was hunting for another river view composition...had the 70-300vr in the bag so thought why not.... fairly distant and handheld shot, a huge crop, only just got away with it i think...... if it weren't for the reflection it would've been forgotten about!

I do far too many of these reflection shots.

Our Daily Challenge - In the future

This might be stretching a little - but instead of taking reflection shots of our pets we might just be able to clone them!

(Um NOT for me thanks)

Obligatory night reflection shot of the museum :-)

A bright and sunny day so we decided on a trip to Salisbury, most of the attraction for me being William Pye's beautiful font in the cathedral and the reflection shots I find there.

As we entered the cathedral I found more than just reflection shots as it was beautifully decorated with bright floral arrangements in red, orange, yellow... I took a couple of shots of the first arrangement just inside the door and then noticed a figure reflected in the font.

As I approached, the figure moved left so I motioned with my right hand (not too imperiously, I hope) for it to move right again and back into the frame, which it did. I took just one shot and then moved forward to show what I had taken and found that the figure was Hugh, a licensed lay preacher.

He told me that he was part of the visitors' chaplaincy and that the people who do this work are drawn from all over the diocese and are not ordained.

I then mentioned my project and asked if he would be willing for me to take a portrait. He readily agreed and I checked whether he was OK for time to which he replied that he had to take prayers in the cathedral at 2 o'clock. I asked the time then which was 7 minutes to two. So I speedily changed to my portrait lens and took 2 or 3 shots which looked fine on the camera screen.

Then I knew there was not much time to glean some information to go in the story to accompany the portrait.

Hugh told me that most of his working life had been spent in the army and, in answer to my question, that he left with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

He works in the cathedral twice per month and leads prayers on the hour. As a lay preacher he also assists the vicar in his local parish on the outskirts of Salisbury.

He was not interested in having his photo sent to him, saying, jokingly, that they already have many photos in the house and his wife would divorce him if he introduced another one.

Good to find an encounter in such an unexpected way.

So for the previous image, we were talking about whether or not to invert these kinds of reflection shots. As I mentioned, I decided not to invert the previous one because in its actual orientation it was already rather ambiguously mysterious. For this one, however, I decided to invert it for that effect, and for the title, which is a kind of visual joke.

My friend sprayed some water from a bottle while I took pictures to get the ripples. And we all know how much DM loves a good reflection shot.

...taken at dusk as we drove back from a lovely afternoon at Westonbirt. Can't resist a good reflection shot! :-)

Trying a little light painting on a long exposure reflection shot

Another reflections shot taken a year ago at the Horseshoe Lagoon, West Albury, NSW.

This started off as a sweet pea. I desaturated it, applied Kyoto Color to the remaining 10 percent of saturated color, then added a layer of texture using the lake reflection shot I posted yesterday.

No major events planned in Venice on this day so I spent the day wandering around the Piazza di San Marco. Great people watching and a lot of cool costumes. What a great experience!

I took these photos on the 4th day of the 2011 Carnevale, Wednesday, 2 March 2011.

A reflection shot taken out side a certain office block in Huddersfield.

Yep, this is the hood from the earlier reflection shot. :-)

I headed into town as the rain was tapering off in the hopes of getting some interesting reflection shots. I completely forgot that the town in question was Consort and that any sort of 'interesting' hasn't been in vogue there since the sixties. (Note to the locals: Would it kill you to have some lights -- ANY LIGHTS -- illuminating the exterior of your buildings on main street?!?)

On the bright side, I did have a young female student call me a 'pervert' for 'videoing' the school and threaten to call the cops if I didn't leave, so I can claim to have experienced a bit of excitement while in town.

A bunch of flustered teens were bunched up inside the doors anxiously waiting for me and my little camera to skedaddle. Too bad I had to take my time. ;-)

I didn't see the reflection in the EMP until I got home; I would have liked to get a better reflection shot.

Another adorable shot of my 2 new friends as well as an incredible reflection shot off the water

These reflection shots I took are my favorite!

I took these photos on the 4th day of the 2011 Carnevale, Wednesday, 2 March 2011.

On Sunday morning Eddie and I decided the sky was not going to improve up on Taylor Mountain. What to do? Head down to Braley I guess. The sky was deteriorating by then anyway. Well, there are always detail shots over at Braley that I am far from using up. I can always find something out there.

I stopped off at Blue Heron on the way while Eddie drove on into Braley. I wanted to look at the Blue Heron pond to see if the reflection shot would work. This old shed was pretty darn shady as I walked by and caught me eye next. The green crept up on it since I last walked by. Braley always serves up something new especially at different spans of the day. The green shade caught my eye on the way over to where I knew Eddie would be standing in the barn admiring the red tile silo holding down the same dirt he usually does. Important dirt I suppose. I'd better not step in it or the pigeon doo-doo mixed in. Breathe carefully around the pigeon dirt... or Eddie for that matter! The barn remains posted... as if that mattered. Ta-ta shed and off to see if Eddie might have moved... what are the odds?

I found Eddie, imagine where? Oh well, I turned to look at the barn. Eddie commented that those were some kinda Lodgepole pine columns that stood the old barn up. Probably natives from the hills. It seems to have been a while since Farmer Braley worked at night out here in the barn. The barn will be gone RSN (real soon now) if the circuit isn't off. I think it would have been a real headmare to get light in the barn for night work. The milking shed is just off to the left. Early winter nights in the St.Vrain Valley barn. Well, here the barn is, complete with pigeon chits. Damn good thing that I retrieved the tripod yesterday for use in the barn!

This looks like the results of Boy George's New World Odor!

This looks like another exceptionally sharp image from that Nikkor zoom. Only chump change @ $1700.

My reflection shot didn't work out as planned. Drove a long way to find out the water was still frozen there. Still a nice night anyhow. :)

A walk in midtown Manhattan on 05.13.18 from 34th Street to Times Square. It was a rainy day but the puddles make for great reflection shots.

A walk on the northern end of Central Park on 09.18.16 the Harlem Meer up to The Reservoir. No exploding sunset colors that day but the water was so calm and I got lots of reflection shots.

I also checked out some buildings along Fifth Avenue across the park.

Westward face of North Texas Athletics building, winter sunset. ISO 491, Line Time 1/25, f/22.

Brightness (+41) and contrast (+11) bumped in Photoshop CS5. Image cropped and re-sized in Photoshop CS 5.

One of the ongoing themes to my work with the Better Light in outdoor landscapes and outdoor architecture portraits these last few months is timing. Timing is, quite literally, everything. When trying to capture the reflection of a sunset, for example, you have two main time concerns depending on the cloud cover: If there is little to no cloud cover, you have a 15 minute window to get your shot. If there are higher stratus clouds, you have two separate 15 minute windows where, if you are prepared, you can get two different kinds of reflective shots.

I was attempting to capture the over-the-horizon reflection shot in this picture and instead captured the literal sunset phase of the sunset. About 10 minutes after this picture was finished, the sky literally exploded with all manner of coral, orange, and purple hued stratus clouds as the higher clouds picked up the sun after it had disappeared over the horizon.

Preparation is everything with this camera.

Another take at Reflection shot

aka "Money Shot and a Pearl Necklace"

Dedicated to my boyfriend Corey, who was conceived in the Happiest Place on Earthâ„¢.

I've been meaning to buy a peice of black plexiglas to get some reflection shots of macro subjects. It's just not the same using normal glass and a black cloth underneath as you get a double reflection from both surfaces of hte glass. I took the black cloth out for this and made it an extreme macro instead.

The surface tension of the water drop with the tips of the pencil leads in gives an interesting effect. You can also see the reflection of the MR14-EX ring flash in the water drop too. One other thing you can notice is the change in colour and bulge of the right two leads where they have absorbed water.
