A small ray fish in the Lisbon Oceanário, still in a separate nursery thank. Those "legs" on the rear where kicking within its body, so it looked exactly like a mouse squashed by a truck! :-)
This fuzzy orb of light is a giant elliptical galaxy filled with an incredible 200 billion stars. Unlike spiral galaxies, which have a well-defined structure and boast picturesque spiral arms, elliptical galaxies appear fairly smooth and featureless. This is likely why this galaxy, named Messier 49, was discovered by French astronomer Charles Messier in 1771. At a distance of 56 million light-years, and measuring 157 000 light-years across, M49 was the first member of the Virgo Cluster of galaxies to be discovered, and it is more luminous than any other galaxy at its distance or nearer.
Elliptical galaxies tend to contain a larger portion of older stars than spiral galaxies and also lack young blue stars. Messier 49 itself is very yellow, which indicates that the stars within it are mostly older and redder than the Sun. In fact, the last major episode of star formation was about six billion years ago — before the Sun was even born!
Messier 49 is also rich in globular clusters; it hosts about 6000, a number that dwarfs the 150 found in and around the Milky Way. On average, these clusters are 10 billion years old. Messier 49 is also known to host a supermassive black hole at its centre with the mass of more than 500 million Suns, identifiable by the X-rays pouring out from the heart of the galaxy (as this Hubble image comprises infrared observations, these X-rays are not visible here).

Not the great splash of color that some sunsets offer up but still an beauty!! Some rays of hope to end the day a bit of gold to warm the soul!! Photo taken at El Franco Lee Park!! Want to take this time to wish all of my Flickr friends a Happy Thanksgiving!! I know that it is really an American Holiday but we pause and give thanks for the many blessings that we have received this year!! In spite of the difficulties that we have had this year we still have so much to be thankful for!! Most of all am thankful for the many friends that I have both here on Flickr and those that stand by me when times get tough!! I am blessed to live in a place where we have such an abundance! A huge thank you for each and every one of my Flickr friends for your support and for your comments! Have a wonderful and blessed day!
Some of you will know that I am no fan of Explore and so make no big deal about it!! I take each photo one at a time and find many more photos that should be recognized!! I would normally change the settings so that most people can't see the photo but since it is Thanksgiving I'll let it be this one time! Happy Thanksgiving once again!!

Ray was just east of the Madison Street bridge. He was in West Chicago, but then moved to Oak Park to help his mom, who needed care. When she passed away, he didn't have the funds to maintain the house and was left homeless. He's been out here three months. At one point, Ray had 10-12K in savings. He said homeless could happen to any of us. "I didn't think it would be me." The ironic part of it is that before he became homeless, he was volunteering his time at a homeless shelter, "Lazarus House". Lately, he's been working with a temp agency to find work. He's doing his best to make money for his son, niece, and nephew. "Things will turn around", he said.
Ray was standing on the Madison Street exit on the expressway. It was 15 degrees and the wind was blowing straight into his face. He's been out here for an hour today. "I just want to make enough money to get a room tonight" (it will be below zero tonight). His biggest need he reiterated numerous times--"I need a place to stay". He also needs a bus card to get around the city. He usually sleeps on the train. A man of few words, but doing what he had to, to survive.
