I put my old camera tripod to use again, and this was the result in some very low light. My tripod has not been in use since the late 80's... I only used it for taking portraits, so no wear and tear on it at all... still looks brand new! It was a strange feeling to be using it again with such a different kind of camera.
This week, we finally put up a sunsail that I had bought to use as a cat hammock! It is triangular; we tied it between 3 trees. I can see that it will sag rapidly so we are going to have to tighten it up! Some of the cats were interested, and some- just suspicious or ignored it! ALL that work! But Tinker, Al, and Mac did find it pretty cool!
I can see that all our big climb-on toys we have in the yard for the cats really need scrubbing! Spring work in the yard is never done.

Sinds een paar maanden is het treinspotten in Putten een ware hype geworden onder de jeugd. Gewapend met de camera van hun telefoon, en vaak gebruik makend van statief, maken ze vooral filmpjes van alle interessante treinen die station Putten passeren. De meesten zijn kids die tegen het eind van de lagere school lopen, of net aan de middelbare school zijn begonnen. Ze komen bijna allemaal uit Putten, maar heel soms zie je hier ook fotografen uit andere delen van het land.
Vanmiddag stonden er zeven jongelui te wachten op de dingen die komen gingen, en hun geduld werd beloond. De reguliere Dolime was in aantocht. Eenmaal in het zicht van de machinist maakten velen van hen het "toeter-gebaar", in de hoop dat de machinist even zou tyfoneren. En ook daarin werden ze niet teleurgesteld. Ik ga er vanuit dat zowel de machinist als ikzelf lol had van het fenomeen "spoorgroupies".

I'm celebrating the end to 2024 by posting a young Shieldbug.
I came across them for the first time this year and was swept off my feet at how beautiful they are.
Although adults are interesting, their babies are out to put on a show with their patterns and colours.
So, on the eve of 2025, here's a young Hawthorn bug stepping out with its party frock on.

Drumstick Truffleclub, growing from underground on False Truffles and other members of the same genus, this parasitic fungus is easily overlooked in mossy woodlands or areas deep in needle litter when its brown cap hardly protrudes through the surface. Excavate the long yellow stem and you always find an underground fungus, sometimes with several Drumstick Truffleclub fungi emerging from it as we did here, and it was put back in place once the photo was taken.
I guess I should have stayed put. I poked my head out onto the back deck of the rental cabin and decided something was happening, so, I drove over to the Lake Blue Ridge Dam. It has a “day use” area that has a view almost-East. But it was fogged in. I did what I could but I never saw a hint of the sunrise. So, I drove back the the cabin to pack up for home. Just about the time I got there, the whole world turned gold. And when I made it to that back porch I’d left an hour earlier, this view was waiting on me. All the lake junk that ruins the view (boat houses, other houses, docks, etc., etc.) were hidden in the silhouettes of the trees.
By the way, fellow photographers and cabin-rental owners: When I’m looking for a cabin to rent (or a hotel, or a State Park lodge, or anything) I’m looking for a view of the sunrise. I realize it’s a niche market but — if you know of one — there are others looking for it.
Non-photographers don’t know what a “great view” is. It’s not looking through the trees, or wires or anything. It’s clear of obstructions (like the tree on the right here) and without lights, water towers, cell phone towers and all the other signs of civilization. You might have “a view” for normal human eyeballs but a “great view” for photography is something different. And if you have one, it’s worth money. Just sayin’.
One day, there will be a Photography Park. It will be like balloon festivals. People will wonder why we didn’t think of it sooner. And everybody will have one — lesser than the one in Albuquerque. (You should ask ChatGPT about that story.)

Escaping from the tomb and putting someone else in their place.
Rather than quoting Bible verses you're going to hear a whole lot today and half of you will discredit as cult utterances, I thought I'd just put this out instead: Angels, Heaven, and other aspects of our faith are concepts difficult to wrap one's head around, and right now we can't. So a lot of people dismiss them as petty imaginings and larger-than-life reflections of things we can see and touch. "Giant humans with bird wings? Haha how pagan."
Consider, just for a brief while, the implications of perhaps these being original concepts; our concepts and ideas little reflections that are missing pieces, and the only way those who saw angels or Heaven could describe them was through Earthly terms, resulting in outrageous-sounding descriptions filled with lions' heads, wheels within wheels, and a lot of gold when there simply was no way to utter the element that made their appearance unutterable. Plato, though not completely right, had hit on something with his Myth of the Cave, now you just need someone to guide you out of it...

This bunker is a pretty amazing structure... especially at night.
The graffiti inside and out is beautiful. This is a great example where well done graffiti can improve a structure. Deze week bereikte mij het nieuws dat de dagen van de Coevorden Shuttle (50420 / 50419) zijn geteld. Nog een paar weken, en dan rijdt deze containertrein niet meer. 19 jaar schijnt hij gependeld te hebben naar Coevorden, maar inmiddels is hij niet meer rendabel. En dus wordt de stekker eruit getrokken.
Reden voor mij om deze trein nog een keer op de foto te zetten. Daarbij werd ik geholpen doordat de 50420 een uur of zes vertraging had, en daardoor tijdens daglicht station Putten passeerde. Het leek wel of het weer was aangepast aan het treurige nieuws, want de foto maakt een droevige indruk.
Vandaag was het de 101001 van TCS die de trein naar Coevorden sleepte. Helaas waren de kleuren van de containers al weinig vrolijker dan het weer.

Na het probeerseltje van gisteren was er vandaag weer niet veel meer mogelijk dan klooien met de camera. Donker, grijs en druilerig waren de steekwoorden, opgeluisterd door de Jules. Deze mooie trein heeft altijd mijn aandacht, en dus probeerde ik om er ook onder deze omstandigheden een foto van te maken.
De camera ingesteld op een sluitertijd van 1/40e en een ISO 800, dan weet je dat het geen standaard plaatje gaat worden. Flink meetrekken op een afstand van 10 meter van de voorbij razende trein is eigenlijk een mission impossible, maar ik heb niets te verliezen. Als de foto's uiteindelijk op de computer staan ben ik nog wel blij verrast met één van de plaatjes.
Artsy-fartsy, zullen we maar zeggen......
Put the Lensbaby double glass optic in the Lensbaby Scout no aperture ring and put the macro filter 4x on the optic. All this was on the Canon EOS 1DS Mark III. It was pouring rain out this morning when I took this so had an umbrella over my shoulder and thought I would see what I could capture on a rainy day. Reszied and edited (Kodachrome preset and upped the exposure just a tad.) ISO was 100. in ON1 Photo Raw 2021.
Even on a rainy day there is something to photograph.
I put this in the group, then took it out when I thought maybe only round baubles were the theme, then saw other non-round ornaments being accepted, so I've put it back in. Well, it is the purpose of cable cars to go back and forth, after all!
Looking close...on Friday: Christmas baubles. This souvenir of San Francisco is about 3 inches/7.5 cm across.

National Express put six new Caetano Boa Vista bodied Scanias into service today.
Five were seen in service A1 to Luton Airport whilst one is on loan to Edwards Coaches of South Wales for use on service NX509 between London and Cardiff.
Just arrived into London on the 509 is BV66WPO.
Vandaag ga ik nog maar even wat extra aandacht aan de SNG's besteden die nog met een blauwe neus rond rijden. Per vandaag zijn er nog maar 48 SNG's met een blauwe neus, tegen 142 gele neusjes. De kans dat je er twee in één beeld gaat vangen wordt dus met de dag kleiner.
Ik had zojuist mazzel, want vandaag kun je de kruising vangen tussen de 2704 (voorgrond) en 2303 (achtergrond). Door een kering in Amersfoort vanwege de werkzaamheden is de kruising op de terugweg met de 2704 en de 2333. En laten dat nou ook precies twee blauwe zijn. Kansen genoeg dus vandaag !
Op de foto is duidelijk zichtbaar dat de SNG's al hun kasten met apparatuur op het dak hebben staan, in tegenstelling tot alle oude treinen. Vroeger hingen de meeste kasten onder de trein. Op de nieuwe manier raakt de apparatuur bij aanrijdingen op het spoor nu niet meer beschadigd als er een auto of een fiets onder de trein door gaat, of als er stenen opspatten.
Op de foto staat naast het station nog het busje van de Asito schoonmaakdienst. De inforrmatiezuil is deels leeg.
Tot voorkort reed de UC Onnen dagelijks door Putten onder nummer 61300. Deze trein reed dan in de middag van de Kijfhoek naar het noorden.
Sinds een paar weken vertrekt deze trein vanuit Duitsland naar Onnen. Hij heet nu de 45708 naar Onnen en 45709 retour. Deze trein komt dan bij Bad Bentheim de grens over en gaat bij Deventer rechtsaf, over de IJssellijn richting het noorden. Daarmee komt deze trein niet meer over de Veluwelijn.
Maar deze week en komende week zijn er werkzaamheden rondom Almelo, waardoor de route via Bad Bentheim geblokkeerd is. En dus rijdt deze trein via Emmerich.
Vanuit Emmerich kan de trein zonder kopmaken doorrijden via Arnhem, Utrecht, Amersfoort en Zwolle naar Onnen. En dus passeert de UC Onnen deze weken opnieuw het pittoreske Putten.
Hier rijdt de trein op volle snelheid richting station Putten, op zo'n 100 meter voor het kruisen van de overweg aan de Stationsstraat. Op de achtergrond zijn de karakteristieke silo's van Recyfood Recycling zichtbaar, op industrieterrein Keizertswoert.
Het is zondagmorgen als trein 5622 rond acht uur stopt langs spoor 2 in Putten. De sneeuw op het perron is nog onaangeroerd, want wie gaat er nou met dít weer op dit tijdstip op pad? In de trein zitten maar een stuk of tien mensen. Ik gok dat het vooral mensen zijn die vanuit hun nachtdienst weer op weg zijn naar huis.
SNG 2739 heeft de eer deze rit te mogen uitvoeren. Het allereerste ochtendlicht wordt nél een beetje zichtbaar in de blauwe lucht. De echte zonsopkomst is pas om 08:46 uur. Ik ben blij dat de dagen nu weer langer gaan worden.
Ik ben niet zo van de Traxxen, en ook niet van die G2000 TIA-locs. Maar deze Railpool Rainbow Traxx wilde ik toch wel graag op de foto hebben. Die zie je hier immers (bijna) nooit.
Vandaag trok deze loc de 2105 en elf Dolime-wagens. Geheel onverwacht moesten ze in Putten even aan de kant nadat de sprinter vlak voor ze tussen Ermelo en Putten flinke vertraging opliep. Op de foto trekt de trein weer op, maar door het wissel zijn net niet alle wagens te zien. Nou ja, één voordeel.......hierdoor reed de trein nog geen 40 km/h tijdens het maken van de foto.
