Put on the old car coat, cruise the Rambler to the grocery store, fill up the cart with food, and rush home in time to make dinner for the kids and that hungry working man. Welcome to the mundane life of a woman during the American Gray Flannel era. And don't forget to have the house tidy.

A couple months ago, I bought and scanned a slide of MARC GP39H-2 #73 taken as it was being delivered to MARC in early 1988. I thought it was the earliest, cleanest picture of the #73 until I laid eyes on this slide. Taken at MK Rail in Boisie on October 27th 1987, the #73 is so fresh, not all of the stenciling and lettering is complete! What a fresh picture of my favorite MARC unit.
This slide also took a bit of work, since it was mounted in the frame so that the rear of the engine was sliced off. I had to open the mount carefully, reposition the positive, and seal the mount back up It was worth it since now you can see the whole engine.

A high voltage transmission tower adjacent to the Batman Bridge north of Launceston, Tasmania.
I was trying to get a good angle on of the bridge, but there are these trees in the way of all the shots I had in my head. Then I noticed this transmission tower right next to it, and you can just walk right beneath it! Perfect!

Agnes: Alright guys, I think this may have gone too far.
Bruno: What do you mean gone too far? You're sitting right beside me.
Agnes: I mean this book. I'm not entirely comfortable with attention from people beyond my core group.
Bruno: That may be the craziest thing that you've ever said. Attention from random strangers is great. They all love me.
Eva: I think the book looks great. It captures my true spirit - intelligent, beautiful and humble.
Bruno: I take excellence to that.
Eva: Don't you mean "exception to that"?
Bruno: Nope. Definitely excellence to that. I'm excellent at intelligence.
Eva: Sometimes I don't think you hear yourself.
Bruno: Sometimes I hear too much of you. And hey - who's that handsome dog sitting on that hill in the placemat?
Agnes: Dude, it's you!
Bruno: I knew that. Because he's handsome and I'm excellent at intelligence.
Eva: And also, it's a page proof from the book - not a placemat.
Bruno: I disagree. It's a placemat because anything that you put food on is a placemat. So I'm just going to sit here and stare until someone puts a big pile of cookies down on it.

This is an exciting time. For about the past year and a half I have been working on a book of dogversattions. It is now so close to done that it is starting to feel real.
There will be two versions of the book. On the table are page proofs of an interior page, the cover (partly hidden) and a 'test print' of the premium version which is landscape format and on glossy paper. This will be the version that I am getting a print run on with 1,000 copies being shipped to me later this week. I have arrangements to sell this through a couple of local book stores and the University of Saskatchewan. A portion of the UofS sales will be donated to the vet college companion fund to pay for treatments of animals in need.
Because of printing and general distribution costs of this version would be too high, we are also putting together a smaller square format non-glossy version that will be available through on-line sellers such as Amazon and be available to be stocked in physical book stores around the world.
More information will be on my website in the next couple of weeks. www.DogversationsBook.com
And by the way - Bruno was mostly right about the placemat. There was a motivational cheerio on the book that I cloned out in post-processing.

Put Your Hand On Your Heart .........Had a trip to Bamburgh this morning and it was really awful when we got there. After a few minutes we decided to make the most of it and find the Heart shaped pool, then the sky started to colour up a bit and I swear that there is a hand holding a heart in this image. I took several shots and there is no trickery in this shot,I do have a witness for that ...Ray ,you will vouch for this cloud won't you !!
So um yeah a loooooooooooooong time ago I requested to be put on the waiting list to receive THE socks, HOPING I would get them prior to my Day 365 back in December.
Prior to my Day 365 I was actually into sp's.
CRAZY I KNOW.
Well it didn't quite work out that way.
BUT the oh SO lovely Sarah was kind enough to send them my way recently.
The only problem is that now that 365 is no longer a part of my daily life (THANK GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) I am SOOOO not into sp's anymore.
Like AT ALL.
Sooooo this is as good as it gets.
Sometimes that happens and I am okay with that.
:)
PS Before you go you just GOTTA check out Little Miss Haley and the rest of the SOTTS pics!
Leiden .....The Netherlands 2018
This is Molen de Put in Leiden. It is a wooden corn mill replica only 30 years of age.
The original mill dates back to 1619 and was owned by Jan Janszoon Put. The first mill burnt down in 1640, rebuilt in 1729 and destroyed again 1817. The octagonal mill foundation was later discovered in 1982 and reconstructed again in 1986 made possible through fundraising campaign among the population of Leiden.

“Nature can put on a thrilling show. The stage is vast, the lighting is dramatic, the extras are innumerable, and the budget for special effects is absolutely unlimited.” Yann Martel.
Since I arrived in Ireland, it was clear to me that I wanted to photograph the Dun Briste Sea Stack from Downpatrick Head, one of the most impressive natural attractions on the island. I had seen many images and videos of this place, so I knew about the different compositions that I wanted to achieve. When we got to the area, there were clouds in the sky, but quite scattered, after exploring the different compositional options and taking several videos with the drone, I decided to try the image I had in mind with the sun included in the composition at sunset. It wasn't my favorite option, but a few clouds over the horizon and the warm sunlight illuminating the cliffs and the Atlantic Ocean easily convinced me.
As the sky was not very spectacular, I was able to focus on adding more elements in the foreground and making the scene more interesting. Moments after the sun went down, and seeing how the wind was quickly bringing numerous clouds, I ran to get my "Broken Part" image, which I published a few weeks ago. The following sunrise, with a dreamy sky, I was able to get "Natural Impulse", my favorite Dun Briste photograph, a perfect finishing touch to an unforgettable experience photographing this spectacle of nature.

My partner pointed this bird out to me and said it was a Bustard - I told him to mind his language!!!!
But no really it IS a "Bustard" - Dictionary definition - modification of Middle French "bistarde", from Old Italian "bistarda", from Latin avis tarda, meaning literally, "slow bird" (although it is not slow)!
Allan knew it was a Bustard because In the UK another member of the same family the "Great Bustard" became extinct in the British Isles between 1832 and an artificial reintroduction to Salisbury Plain in 2004. It forms part of the design of the Wiltshire Coat of Arms - A County in Southern England in the area where we come from.
see greatbustard.com
The South African Kori Bustards are HUGE looking like a cross between an ostrich and a monitor lizard. Except for feathers, the kori bustard seemed reptilian, with piercing yellow eyes, thick long legs ending in tiny feet, a stiletto-like bill, and a long grey & black-peppered neck.
Kori Bustards are large, heavy, mainly terrestrial birds. It is the heaviest bird capable of flight, although this title may also belong to the similarly-dimensioned Great Bustard. However it avoids flying if possible. It spends most of its time on the ground, foraging for the seeds and lizards which make up most of its diet.
The male Kori Bustard averages at about 110 cm (3.7 feet) in length and stands 60-90 cm (2-3 ft) tall. An average male bird would weigh about 13.5 kg (30 lb), but exceptional birds may weigh over 20 kg (44 lb). A report exists of a 34 kg (75 lb) bird, but it is not verified and must be beheld with skepticism because it so much heavier than any other recorded weight for a Kori Bustard. The female Kori Bustard averages 7.7 kg (17 lb) and is usually 20% shorter than a male. The Wingspan is 2.4 meter (7.9 ft) -
So bearing that in mind - if you one coming towards flying at low level you I would duck!!!!! Image being hit by something about twice the size of two large Christmas Turkeys. Once they do get off the ground, the bustards, despite their large size, are able to fly at a high velocity (60 kilometre/hour)
The southern subspecies (Ardeotis kori kori) is distributed in southern Africa in Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, southern Angola, South Africa, and southern Mozambique. Kori Bustards are birds of wide, open grasslands, and lightly wooded savanna. The subspecies kori can be found in arid savanna areas where trees are scattered intermittently, they are fond of areas where the grass is short and where there is a good view of the surrounding area. Migrations in response to rainfall and/or food supply have been recorded, but the species is not migratory in the true sense.
The distribution of the kori subspecies is becoming fragmented and overall, declining in numbers. Local extinctions have been recorded. Given the continual habitat destruction from agriculture and development, hunting pressure, and a slow reproduction rate, Kori Bustards do not face a promising future in the wild. Many Kori Bustards are poached for local consumption, mainly by men over 30, Snares or Guns are used to kill birds. In some areas only tribal elders are allowed to eat bustard meat. Sometimes a traditional doctor is brought in to 'treat' it before it is eaten, because of a belief that bustard meat can otherwise cause mental illness.
There is evidence of illegal cross-border trafficking in live bustards from Botswana, up to 10 at a time are smuggled into South Africa where they are sold as a delicacy to wealthy individuals or exported outside Africa.
