I’ve put up a headshot of Hadi a couple years ago while I was experimenting with lighting. We decided to try Out some lighting again.

This was a strobe with a 20 degree grid and barn doors the strip of light. The strobe was as close as we could without blocking the camera (about 2ft). The barn doors were closed as tight as we could get (about a quarter inch slit). The other light was a strobe fired one a fall about 15 feet behind me for fill.

Black v flats on either side and behind subject were used to cut any left or right reflections.

I don’t use modelling lights, but aiming the main light was so difficult that I needed to use it.

I purposely put my zoom lens on and looked out for this little Robin who I've seen several times now in the same place and wasn't disappointed. He came out to sing to me :)

"If someone points out to you that your pet theory of the universe is in disagreement with Maxwell's equations - then so much the worse for Maxwell's equations. If it is found to be contradicted by observation - well, these experimentalists do bungle things sometimes. But if your theory is found to be against the Second Law of Thermodynamics I can give you no hope; there is nothing for it but to collapse in deepest humiliation.”

- Sir Arthur Eddington, Physicist.

________________________________________________

Sir Arthur Eddington introduced us to The Arrow of Time. As we look into the future we see a universe which is gradually descending into disorder, expanding and cooling as it does so, ultimately to become a scattered collection of particles so far separated within an unimaginably vast nothingness that the probability of them ever again combining to create anything is zilch. That is indeed a depressing forecast of our destiny, but as the process will take about 10 trillion years (around 700x the current age of The Universe) there's no need to cancel your pro subs just yet. Conversely if we reverse The Arrow of Time we look into our past, noticing greater order as the journey progresses. Ultimately we would reach The Big Bang when The Universe was simple and very highly ordered before its unimaginably rapid expansion an instant later.

HMM all - very deep for a Monday! Sir Arthur illustrates The Second Law of Thermodynamics which holds that entropy can never decrease as time passes. Although in theory it may remain constant, in practice it increases. But what is entropy?

The entropy of a system refers to the amount of order within it. Low entropy describes a high degree of order. For example, if we conceptually reduce your home, that pile of bricks or whatever, into its constituent atoms we can imagine that only a very few arrangements of those atoms would create your home, meaning that your home is a low entropy (ie highly ordered) system. There are vastly more ways those atoms could be arranged, but for most of those configurations there would be no structure whatsoever. Even if we consider configurations of bricks instead of atoms, the vast majority of possible configurations would be random piles of bricks rather than a house.

Conversely a pile of beach sand has a low level of order, representing high entropy. There are very many ways the grains of sand in a pile may be arranged to create a pile of sand just like the one we started with. After all, one pile of sand is pretty much the same as any other. However, if you put some in a bucket then threw it into the air, you would be very surprised if it landed in the form of a sand castle. But it could, proven by you instead flipping the bucket over in traditional seaside fashion, giving it a tap and carefully removing it, creating a low entropy / highly ordered sand castle. The grains therefore can make such a thing and could therefore land in just the right places even if you threw them into the air. But there are far many more configurations that they could take (most of which are unremarkable piles) so while a sand castle magically appearing from a load of airborne sand could theoretically happen, it is a vanishingly improbable event. Functionally speaking, the probability of such an event occurring is zero. If you left a formed sand castle alone, you'd see its low entropy increase in accordance with the Second Law of Thermodynamics as it decayed into an unremarkable high entropy pile of sand. Ultimately it would become just another part of the even higher entropy beach, acting as a metaphor for what is happening in The Universe right now, and demonstrating, during your hard earned summer holiday, a university level physics concept. I've never done a university physics course, he hastily clarifies, but I have done some reading on it.

I should say that it has been fairly pointed out to me that this model depends on one's world view. This is mine. It's a world view which led to the manufacture of transport options to get to beaches, buckets capable of creating sand castles, cameras, the internet and probes heading to the edges of The Solar System and ultimately beyond on precisely predetermined trajectories calculated using physics, so I think it has some evidence to support it. The background of the photo is the Christian creation story, Genesis 1. That's mine too.

In creating the image, I used a plain yellow background created in Photoshop over which I added a layer of a paving stone to provide texture, reducing its opacity to allow the yellow to colour it. Genesis followed, and finally a photo of a small pocket watch which I vandalised through the wonders of Photoshop, using much tiny deleting, moving and transforming, its parts disappearing into the future as it falls into disorder, following The Arrow of Time.

and charged the people $1.50 just to see them. Paved paradise and put in a parking lot!!

----------------------------- JESUS ✝️ SAVES-------------------------------

SALVATION THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST - ALONE!

12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."

❤️❤️ IT'S ALL JESUS AND NONE OF OURSELVES! ❤️❤️

16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the SALVATION of everyone WHO BELIEVES: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a RIGHTEOUSNESS FROM GOD IS REVEALED, a righteousness that is by FAITH FROM FIRST TO LAST, just as it is written: "THE RIGHTEOUS WILL LIVE BY FAITH." (Romans 1:16-17)

16 KNOW that a man is NOT justified by observing the law, but by FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be JUSTIFIED BY FAITH in CHRIST and NOT by observing the law, BECAUSE BY OBSERVING THE LAW NO ONE WILL BE JUSTIFIED. (Galatians 2:16)

1. Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2. BY THIS GOSPEL YOU ARE SAVED, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

3. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4. that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5. and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8. and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.

9. For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11. Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed. (1 Corinthians 15:1-11)

7. Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9. I am the gate; whoever enters through me WILL BE SAVED. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10. The thief comes only to STEAL and KILL and DESTROY; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the FULL. (John 10:7-10)

1 Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. 2 For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. 3 Since they did not know the righteousness that comes from God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. 4 Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

5 Moses describes in this way the righteousness that is by the law: "The man who does these things will live by them." 6 But the righteousness that is by faith says: "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?'" (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 "or 'Who will descend into the deep?'" (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:1-13)

Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!

So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

I've put a lot of work into this girl over the past eight months since getting her from Dallas ... a LOT of training in and outside of classes ... and at last, after two very long hikes with Tanya and Mr. Poodle himself (Jasper) this weekend, I now feel confident in Matlin's off-leash abilities. She has come OFF the long line and is an amazing listener and trail buddy.

Yesterday she encountered her first 'game', as a red squirrel broke just in front of her on the path. A simple "ah" from 50' away, and she stopped. She even left a dead goose on the trail today instead of bringing it home for dinner.

Every day I am grateful for this girl ... but this weekend I am doubly grateful for her as she blossoms into one amazing companion.

Here's a panorama of Tokyo, taken from the Mori Tower. It's made up of 6 different photos from the Hasselblad X1D. The full full-rez I'll put on Smugmug ( www.stuckincustoms.com/links/smugmug ) soon! Tokyo is so huge, and I'm not even sure this photo captures it. Over there on the left is the tallest building here - that's where I am staying at the Ritz-Carlton. Anyone can go up there to the top floor and take a photo from the bar; it's quite a view too!

I edited this photo on the bullet train from Tokyo to Kyoto, where we are having our event tonight. I really enjoy editing photos on a train... I'm not sure why, but it's very relaxing for me to listen to music, work on photos, and occasionally stare out the window. #tokyo #rcmemories #japan

Have to play once in a while....

This is my second title for this piece.....and I'm not happy with it. Any ideas? What would you call it............I know I often think of titles for other people's work......

HOUSE OF PINKU

Summer 2011

I put up a bluebird box in 2009, and have had birds continuously since. Our box has fledged over 100 new bluebirds and I've kept journal of every brood. About a month ago Mama IV disappeared with four eggs in the box. She wouldn't have done that if alive.

Poor Daddy still comes to the yard every morning, looks in the box and calls and calls. Well yesterday a female showed up. Daddy is really courting her. Showing her the box, feeding her bugs and chattering incessantly. Looking like we are back in the business of raising bluebirds again. Our beautiful world, pass it on.

From the archives....I must have hundreds of images I've never processed or posted, and every once in a while, I come across something that makes me appreciate my own Midwestern surroundings a little more :-) Have a great Monday, and as always, thanks for all your visits and comments!!!! Will catch up with everyone soon.

You're the whisper of a summer breeze

You're the kiss that puts my soul at ease

What I'm saying is I'm into you

Here's my story and the story goes

You give love, you get love

And more than heaven knows

You're gonna see

I'm gonna run, I'm gonna try

I'm gonna take this love right to ya

All my heart, all the joy

Oh, baby, baby, please

(Rush, rush) Hurry, hurry, lover, come to me

(Rush, rush) I wanna see ya, I wanna see ya get free with me

(Rush, rush) I can feel it, I can feel you all through me

(Rush, rush) Ooh, what you do to me

And all I want from you is what you are

And even if you're right next to me

You're still too far away

If I'm not inside your arms

I get dramatic, baby, yes, I know

But I need you, I want you, oh, man, I love you so

You're gonna see

I'm gonna run, I'm gonna try

I'm gonna take this love right to ya

All my heart, all the joy

Oh, baby, baby, please

(Rush, rush) Hurry, hurry, lover, come to me

(Rush, rush) I wanna see ya, I wanna see ya get free with me

(Rush, rush) I can feel it, I can feel you all through me

(Rush, rush) Ooh, what you do to me

(Rush, rush) Hurry, hurry, lover, come to me

(Rush, rush) I wanna see ya, I wanna see ya get free with me

(Rush, rush) I can feel it, I can feel you all through me

(Rush, rush) Ooh, what you do to me

When you kiss me up and down

You turn my senses all around

Oh, baby, oh, baby

I don't know just how or why

But no one else has touched me

So deep, so deep, so deep inside

(Rush, rush) No, no, no, no, no

(Rush, rush) No, no, no, no, no

(Rush, rush) No, no, no, no, no

(Rush, rush) No, no, no, no, no

(Rush, rush) Hurry, hurry, lover, come to me

.....one would put it here.

Put your goggles on and fly with me into the new week...

Cheerleaders put on show for 2ID Soldiers

Story by: Sgt. Scott Kim 1HBCT PAO

Soldiers were given a little something extra for the Holidays as the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders performed their Annual Christmas Concert sponsored by the United Service Organization Dec. 29 at Carey Gym on Camp Casey.

The concert was a Vegas-style dance show with lots of costume changes and music ranging from country to hip hop, all to entertain Soldiers and uplift spirits during the holiday season.

Although the cheerleaders themselves missed the holidays in order to come to Korea, many feel that performing for the troops was well worth the sacrifice.

“This is my very first USO tour and it’s been everything I’ve imagined and more,” said Meagan Sharp, a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader. “It’s been great meeting everybody and see them smile knowing that we brought the a little bit of home to them over Christmas and New Years.”

The cheerleaders gave an energizing and spectacular performance which was extremely well received by Soldiers especially during the audience participation parts.

“They pulled me onstage, told me to stand at parade rest and said I couldn’t move no matter what they did, which was to dance around me,” said Pfc. Anthony Thompkins, a food service specialist for Gulf Co. 302nd BSB. “It was the best experience of my life!”

Along with dancing and trivia from the Cowboys Cheerleaders, Family Morale Welfare and Recreation along with Maj. Gen. John W. Morgan III, commanding general of the 2ID and Lt. Col. Donald Meisler, garrison commander for Camp Casey recognized three Soldiers, Capt. Lauren Shaw, operations officer for 2ID Provost Marshal’s office, Staff Sgt. Kathleen Hedges, a health care specialist for HHC 1st BSTB and Spc. Devin Monroe, a fire support specialist for HHC 2-9 Inf.

Shaw and Hedges were recognized for being on the All-Army Softball team as well as the All-Forces Softball team while Monroe was awarded Athlete of the Year for his participation on Camp Casey’s Flag Football Team.

For some of the cheerleaders it was a particularly touching tour as their own loved ones have served at some time or another.

“I had an uncle in the Marines and I always looked up to him but I never really understood did until I came here,” said Nicole Hamilton, a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader. “Now I have an even greater respect for the military and I can see his (her uncle’s) aspect on things.”

The Soldiers and cheerleaders alike are grateful for the support and sacrifice each makes to the other in order to help them along with whatever it is they do, whether it’s on the field of battle or at a football game.

“I feel good personally knowing that I did my part to make somebody happy, keep them motivated and keep them going,” Hamilton said. “We love the troops and this is our way of giving back to them for all their sacrifice.”

Henry died on 21st April 1509, having suffered from gout and asthma. He and his wife lie in a vault beneath his magnificent tomb in the Lady Chapel (the first monarchs to be buried in the Abbey in a vault under the floor rather than in a tomb chest above ground). This was designed in the Renaissance style by Italian sculptor Pietro Torrigiano (Henry VIII had not liked the designs which were first put forward for the tomb by other sculptors). The black marble tomb base is adorned with six medallions in copper gilt representing the Virgin Mary and Henry's patron saints (Michael, George, Anthony, Christopher, Anne, Edward the Confessor, Vincent, Barbara, Mary Magdalene, John the Baptist and John the Evangelist). At either end are coats of arms supported by cherubs. The gilt bronze recumbent effigies can be seen through the fine grille which surrounds the monument. Seated angels balance on the carved frieze at each corner of the tomb, supporting coats of arms They once held pennants in their hands.
